FASHION: Ladies 2015 PRADA
Prada
A handout at the Prada presentation tonight equated a fashion show with a theatrical performance: characters, space, costumes, music, and lights creating an enveloping experience. The small, square invitation sealed the deal, summoning us to "Act 2," the first act being the men's show in January, for which Miuccia Prada claimed inspiration from Germany's cultural avant-garde, in particular choreographer Pina Bausch, artist Joseph Beuys, and director Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Then, the set was a stark alternative-performance space à la Bausch, encased in felt à la Beuys, and the collection's impact was low-key and obtuse. Now, just over a month later, the set remained exactly the same, but Miuccia had honed the inspiration, focusing on Fassbinder, watching all his movies to the point where she was prepared to announce that she had drawn directly from the costumes in his 1972 film The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant. "Your culture is done by your past," she said. "History is there for a reason."
Miuccia and Fassbinder, who died in 1982, were more or less of the same generation and were shaped by the same social and political forces, so it was easy to see the appeal of the director for the designer. "His humanity, his love of culture, his love of telling a story," she enthused. "I had so much fun watching all those movies. They gave me a relationship with something less fancy, more dark." That clarified her new collection's obsession with shearling. "The opposite of rich," Miuccia called it, even though, given the volumes and extravagant shades she used, it was anything but poor. She laid it over sheer dresses, the tough and the delicate together, a longtime Prada obsession.
But there was another facet of Fassbinder's creativity that infiltrated this Prada collection to great effect. Petra von Kant connected Miuccia with an old Cecil B. DeMille version of Cleopatra, starring Claudette Colbert, which she became convinced had been a huge influence on Fassbinder. And that got her thinking about the continuities of creativity that run through culture (DeMille begetting Fassbinder begetting Almodóvar, for instance). Staying in tune with the German avant-garde subtext for a minute, the strong 1920s/1930s strand in Miuccia's new designs—the slink of sheer shifts, the Art Deco prints, the Deco-influenced silver tracery, the chevron necklines, the Metropolis wedge heels—evoked the Weimar era, where avant-gardism exploded over ground. Dietrich's Lola in The Blue Angel was an icon of Weimar. Fassbinder updated her in his own 1982 movie, Lola. Tonight Barbara Sukowa, the star of that film, was performing live with strings, wind instruments, and the soundscapes of Frederic Sanchez. What was she singing? The songs of Kurt Weill, the genius composer of Weimar.
The perfect circularity of the whole presentation was an exact embodiment of Miuccia's own fascination with the way that ideas roll forward through the ages, finding new life and new modes of expression. Clothes as ambassadors for ideas? That is more than enough to be going on with as you flick through the racks in a Prada store next fall.

TRAVEL: Anne Frank Exhibits, Memorials In And Around Amsterdam
Anne Frank is a familiar story to just about every person alive. However, with the popular book and movie The Fault in Our Stars, the interest in Anne Frank has skyrocketed among our young readers.
For those who are lucky enough to visit Amsterdam with an interest in Anne Frank, these are some of the timeless sites to see that help tell the inspiring story of Anne Frank.
First, the Anne Frank House, Anne Frankhuis as the fine folks of Amsterdam know it. The Anne Frank House museum is home to the famed secret annex that housed the Frank family and others during World War II when the Nazi regime were searching out Jewish citizens to move to concentration camps to await death. Many view the Anne Frank House as inspirational, awe inspiring, and historic. Visitors experience how Anne Frank and others lived for two years during World War II. Visitors can expect to move through the entire museum in about an hour, and spend much more time than that waiting in line. The Anne Frank House, obviously, is a must visit while in Amsterdam.
About 20 minutes outside of Amsterdam’s center lies the town of Rivierenbuurt, which is the site of Anne Frank’s childhood home. The tourists are non-existent. The line, gone. The story of how Anne Frank and her family spent their lives before the horror of the Holocaust, beautifully restored. The home serves as a safe haven for writers who are not able to speak or write freely in their country. Thus, the inside of the home is not open to the public. The only way the public knows that Anne Frank spent her childhood in the town is simply by a bronze statue and a sign that reads “ANNE FRANK 1929-1945″
A few streets away from Anne Frank’s childhood home is her Montessori school that she attended from age 5 through 12. The school still holds students captive with standard teachings and life lessons, therefore it is not open to the public either. However, the side of the school is painted with quotes from Anne Frank’s famous diary. While you visit Rivierenbuurt, another stop you can choose to make is that of a bookstore, where the clerks tell a story of how Anne Frank’s father bought the 13-year-old a birthday present — an autograph book — which she used as her diary while hiding from Nazi German soldiers during World War II.
So thank The Fault in Our Stars for bringing the inspiring, courageous story of Anne Frank back to the forefront of our children. Stories like this provide life lessons that they may not otherwise receive.
Benjamin EkpenyongFASHION: Victoria’s Secret Models Do This Crazy Thing For Perfect Hair
Amongst many other things, Victoria’s Secret models are known for their long and bouncy hair. Either on the runway or in a photoshoot, the smooth tresses of these girls are flawless and envy-worthy. Now, Victoria’s Secret model Barbara Fiahlo has revealed the crazy trick that her and fellow VS supermodels do to keep their mane perfect – they burn their hair!
The procedure is known as velaterapia. Essentially, a hair stylist uses the open flame of a lit candle to burn off split ends. This “cauterizes” the hair and locks moisture in. “Yes, they actually light a candle and touch it to your hair,” Barbara Fiahlo insists, a Victoria’s Secret model who swears by the treatments. Check out a video demonstration of the procedure below!
The trend of burning off split ends originated in Brazil, a country known for long, luscious locks. “Brazilians are, in general, very much into long, bouncy, wavy hair,” says Victoria Ceridono, the beauty editor for Vogue Brazil. Brazil is only second behind the United States when it comes to money spent on hair treatment. While some Brazilian treatments have become controversial due to toxic chemicals used in some products, this treatment, while bizarre, just requires a bit of flame.
Barbara, who originates from Brazil, says this treatment works for her because she’s already done too much damage to her hair. “If I did [straightening treatments] I would lose all my hair! They’re very strong,” she says. She says the velaterapia treatment takes about two to three hours, but it’s worth it. “It’s unbelievable. You don’t get shorter hair, but if you touch the treated side it feels so much smoother and healthier!” Fiahlo says that she’s even introduced Victoria’s Secret friends Alessandra Ambrosio and Isabeli Fontana to this method, and that they’ve gone to the upscale Laces and Hair salon in Sao Paolo for treatments. The treatment has become extremely popular in Brazil among the wealthy elite.

Still want supermodel hair but can’t afford the trip to Sao Paolo (and too scared to try the candle trick at home)? There’s a simpler look that’s been popular this summer with our favorite Victoria’s Secret girls: the side braid. Miranda Kerr and Alessandra have both been spotted rocking the side braid this summer, usually paired with a chic brimmed hat. The look is perfect for those hot-and-humid days when you want to keep your hair down, but don’t want a sweaty mess. It’s kept these Victoria’s Secret models cool and pulled together on the most blazing days. (Plus, you don’t have to worry about accidentally burning your hair!)

Benjamin EkpenyongFASHION: 7 Beauty Tips To Survive The Sizzling Summer
Summer is upon us, but before you head out in the blazing heat, check out these beauty tips. The sun can wreak some serious havoc on your skin, so here are some tidbits to keep both you and your skin happy this summer.
Beauty Tip #1: Wear sunscreen! Beauty experts can’t emphasize it enough. At least 15 minutes before sun exposure, apply your sunscreen. There are tons of brands and types to choose from, but make sure your sunscreen has an SPF of 30 or higher, water-resistance, and protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Don’t forget to reapply!
Beauty Tip #2: Put down those irons! The sun’s rays can penetrate deep into the hair’s fibers and cause damage worse than your regular flatiron. Instead of reaching for your crimper, try a spray a sea salt solution to bring out your natural waves.
Beauty Tip #3: Look for lip products with SPF! From lipsticks to lip balms, the lips are often the most neglected when it comes to sun protection, and trust us; you don’t want to experience sunburned lips.
Beauty Tip #4: Hydrate! This goes for both you and your skin. Drinking lots of water keeps your body retaining moisture, and a healthy amount of moisturizer every day keeps your skin soft and supple.
Beauty Tip #5: Keep frizz away! Try out a diffuser when blow-drying to smooth your hair while limiting its exposure to heat. For bonus points, blast your hair with a cool shot of hair to lock in your style and shine. Even if you don’t own a diffuser, remember to deep condition every other week for smoother hair.
Beauty Tip #6: Switch to waterproof formulas of your makeup essentials! Most mascara brands offer a waterproof counterpart, so take advantage of it! Waterproof formulas are more wax-based rather than water-based, leaving your mascara flawlessly smudge-proof all day. An added bonus: waterproof formulas tend to hold curls better. Remember: waterproof formulas can take a toll on your lashes, so keep an oil-based eye makeup remover to keep your lashes from getting dry and brittle.
Beauty Tip #7: Don’t be afraid to rock a bare face! Summer is a great time to just let your skin have some R & R, just like you! So when you’re running off to beach, instead of piling on a full face, put on some confidence and head out! Your skin will thank you.
Anyone can try out these simple beauty tips and see drastic improvement to your summertime fun!
Benjamin EkpenyongTOP FASHION: Kate Upton Is The New Face Of Express And Bobbi Brown Cosmetics
Kate Upton has been a busy woman this summer. Hot off a round of promotions for her acting debut in The Other Woman, Kate hopped right back into the modeling world, signing on as the spokeswoman for both Express and Bobbi Brown Cosmetics.
Kate, who celebrated her 22nd birthday last week with boyfriend Justin Verlander, is ecstatic to be representing both brands in their new fall campaigns. “It’s really exciting for me to be the brand ambassador for Express because it’s a brand that I have grown up with and always wear,” Kate says.

Kate’s go-to Express purchase? “Definitely a tank top — I grew up in Florida!” Upton says her day-to-day style is much more laid back than the “classic, sophisticated and sexy” look she goes for on the red carpet. “I love to get all dressed up, but it can be really exhausting to get done-up like that every day. When I’m on my own, it’s more realistic for me to be casual and comfortable because I love to be outside and I am always hanging out with friends and family.”
Kate’s also thrilled to be representing Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, a brand she says her mother introduced her to as a teen. As for why Bobbi picked Kate to represent the brand, Bobbi says that “it’s really inspirational to see a woman who feels so good and so confident, like Kate. [Kate's] completely individual and independent.”
Being a spokeswoman in the fashion industry is a new thing for Kate, whose career has been mostly bikini modeling. Breaking out into more high fashion gigs was tough for Kate:
Being a spokeswoman in the fashion industry is a new thing for Kate, whose career has been mostly bikini modeling. Breaking out into more high fashion gigs was tough for Kate:
“At the time I was modeling, it was more of a slim look [in fashion]. I actually got down on myself. I didn’t feel as confident. I didn’t feel beautiful. It took me a minute to realize that it doesn’t really matter what people say to you or what people think. It’s about competing with yourself and you being the best you can be.”
In addition to the spokeswoman gigs, you can also catch Kate in the new Lady Antebellum music video for “Bartender,” as we’ve previously reported.

Benjamin EkpenyongTOP NEWS: Kim And Kanye’s Bel Air Mansion: Luxury Pad To Include Six Gold Silk Beds Costing $1 Million
Kim And Kanye are throwing a whole lot of cash at their $11 million Bel Air mansion which they purchased last year, just before Nori was born in June.
Being that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are one of the most popular celebrity couples out there these days, it’s only fitting that because of all the media rumors and reports about them, the couple should have a great pad to call home.
But, for the time being at least, the couple will have to make do with the humble abode they have at Kris Jenner’s Calabasas home where they are are staying while renovations are underway.
When Kim Kardashian and Kanye West bought the mansion they probably didn’t think it would take this long to renovate it. Then again, they are throwing a staggering $20 million just at the renovations, including coughing up $1 million on the security system alone.
Even though Kim and Kanye only planned to spend about $10 million renovating the Bel Air mansion, costs seemed to have spiraled out of control, and more than doubled. A source toldX17:
Kim and Kanye are sort of freaking out right now. They are worth millions and millions of dollars, but even for them the amount of money this home turns out to be costing them is making them stressed. Not to mention it might be years before it’s ready for them to move in!
As with all projects of this scale, things seem to just keep going wrong, one after another. The celebrity couple has already had issues with the water, electricity and heating as the whole property needed to be rewired, not to mention the 4,000 square feet of living space they are adding!
According to reports, the couple has already forked out a good $750,000 on four gold-plated toilets, and in excess of $1 million on kitchen appliances.
A further million dollars has also been spent on six special edition beds that are: “covered in the same decadent gold silk used to create iconic Hermes ties, equating to some 1,600 miles of thread in total.”
Kim and Kanye are taking the word decadence to a whole new level as their new dream home will include a bowling alley, indoor and outdoor pools a basketball court and a movie theater.

Benjamin EkpenyongTOP NEWS: Jessica Simpson Tight LBD: Jessica Shows Off Toned Legs, Tiny Frame in LBD, Romper
Jessica Simpson stepped out in a tight LBD on Friday and she shared a photo of her toned legs and tiny frame on Instagram. The singer transformed her body after having two children and she looks better than ever. Despite people giving her a hard time for getting heavy (God forbid you gain weight during your pregnancy), Jess kept her head held high and was able to get her body back, 11 months after baby #2.
Simpson attributes her 70-pound weight loss (E! News) to diet and exercise. The star joined Weight Watchers (and has been working for the company for over a year) and coupled her new eating habits with a workout that got her slimmed down and toned up in less than a year.
Jessica Simpson’s tight LBD wasn’t the only photo that had people talking this past week, either. She also shared a photo of herself in what appears to be a sexy romper, “posing” in the backseat of a car. She says that she was hiding from the paparazzi and decided to strike a pose for her soon-to-be husband, Eric Johnson, while she was at it! Clearly feeling the love of her fans, Jess rallied up over 28,000 “likes” on the post.
Jessica Simpson is undoubtedly proud of her body — and she should be. She worked very hard to get herself back to where she wanted to be. Of her experience with weight gain and dieting, Simpson said:
“I was so insecure—I couldn’t even believe what I weighed. I don’t think that I ever expected myself to see the numbers that I have seen on the scale. You are creating a life, and honestly, it’s not easy. It is a really hard thing to go through. And you deserve to eat your ice cream. You deserve to have your pancakes. Do whatever you want to do and then afterwards just know that you have to work really hard.”
Now, Jessica Simpson can pull off a tight LBD without issue. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Jessica Simpson is planning on getting married over the Fourth of July weekend. The highly anticipated nuptials will be classic and elegant — and everyone is dying to see Simpson in her dress. Rumor has it, the former reality star helped design the $200,000 gown. No word yet on style or color, but you know that Simpson had to have it taken in a few times!

Benjamin EkpenyongTOP NEWS: Giudice Father In Law: Teresa Giudice Remembers Father In Law, Thanks Fans For Support
Teresa Giudice paid tribute to her father-in-law on Twitter this weekend after he suddenly died last week. In remembering her husband, Joe’s, father, Frank Giudice, Teresa posted a bunch of photos of the Giudice family and of Frank with his granddaughters (there are 11!). It is unknown how Frank died, but it is believed that he had a heart attack. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Frank dropped to the ground while building a chicken coop at Joe and Teresa’s New Jersey home.
Teresa Giudice’s father-in-law was a big part of her life and really like a second father to her. As you can see from the photos that she chose to share on Twitter, Teresa and Joe spent a lot of time with Joe’s side of the family. While you do get to see some of that on the reality show The Real Housewives Of New Jersey, Teresa and Joe are seen spending more time with Teresa’s side. That is likely because her brother, Joe Gorga, and his wife, Melissa, are also on the show.
According to The Christian Post, Teresa and Joe have been relying on their faith to get them through this difficult time. Don’t forget that the Giudices are going through this tragedy just two weeks before Teresa and Joe’s criminal sentencing. The two could both be going to prison, leaving their family (and their four daughters) behind.
Teresa Giudice’s father-in-law will be dearly missed. He seemed like a wonderful man who loved his family and loved life. It is never easy to lose someone, especially when it is so unexpected like in Frank’s case. Many believe that the stress that he was dealing with, perhaps directly related to Joe and Teresa’s legal troubles, may have impacted his life in a negative way. How could it not?
It is unclear when the funeral services for Frank Giudice will be or if they have already been held. The Giudice family has been leaning on one another during this difficult time and Teresa wants her fans to know that she appreciates their kind words, thoughts, and prayers.

Benjamin EkpenyongSPORT NEWS: Tim Tebow Still Making Waves In NFL Circles, Even Though Career Likely Over
Tim Tebow will likely never play a down in the NFL again, but the unconventional quarterback is still having a big impact on the game.
Tebow wasn’t on an NFL roster last season, but the incredible media attention that followed him from Denver to New York to a short stint in New England is still fresh in the minds of those caught up in it.
New Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine was in the midst of this Tebow-mania with the Jets, and recalled it this week.
Pettine said the attention surrounding rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel is much different than the hype surrounding Tim Tebow.
“The circumstances are different,” Pettine said, via Tom Reed of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “Tebow was an established NFL player [when he was traded to the Jets], he wasn’t coming in as a rookie, unproven. It’s a little easier for us with Manziel because he understands he earned Johnny Football as a college player and nobody understands it more than him. It’s like, ‘Listen, I don’t want to be named starter coming out of the draft.’”
But Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel are alike in many ways. Tebow entered the NFL as one of the most followed players in years. He came from one of college football’s most polarizing programs, the University of Florida, and was the subject of many arguments over whether his unconventional style would find success in the NFL.
In the end, both sides were right. Tim Tebow was successful in the NFL — for a stretch. After taking over as starter for the Denver Broncos in 2011, he led the team on a comeback and a playoff berth, with defenses struggling to stop his running attack.
But eventually defenses caught up with Tebow and exposed his lack of accuracy, and he would never start another game after leaving the Broncos. Tebow was cut before the 2013 season began and seems unlikely to get another chance at the league.
Manziel has faced many of the same questions, surrounded by uncertainty over whether the playmaking ability he showed at Texas A&M will translate to the NFL or whether his small stature will catch up with him. There seem to be as many people thinking he will be a bust as there are thinking he will be a star quarterback.
Though the beginning of their careers may seem similar, Cleveland Browns are likely hoping that Johnny Manziel ends up with a better time in the NFL than Tim Tebow.
