Scores die in crash of Algeria military plane

One person survived the crash of a military plane Tuesday in the mountains of eastern Algeria that left at least 77 others dead, a spokeswoman for the country's Civil Protection office said.

The spokeswoman, who could not give her name in line with protocol, said there were a total of 78 people on board the plane. The man who survived has head injuries and was taken to a hospital, she added.

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika declared a three-day national mourning period and offered his condolences to the families of the victims, the state-run Algerie Presse Service (APS) reported.

The Hercules C-130 was carrying members of the Algerian air force and their families, according to several media outlets in Algeria.

Initial reports on the crash gave conflicting numbers, with some saying 103 people were on board the aircraft and as many as 100 had died. Others cited 52 deaths and more than two dozen missing.

The plane was flying from Tamanrasset in southern Algeria to Constantine in the east, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"An investigative team has been created and sent to the scene to determine the cause and the exact circumstances of this tragic accident," the Defense Ministry statement said, adding that top military officials were heading to the crash site.

The plane crashed in Mount Fertas, which is about 500 kilometers (310 miles) east of Algeris, according to APS.

State radio, citing a military source, said bad weather was behind the crash.

There was a snowstorm in the area when the plane went down, witnesses told the radio network.

China and Taiwan hold historic talks

Taiwan and China are holding their highest level talks for more than six decades Tuesday, marking the first government-to-government contact since the pair's acrimonious split in 1949.

A spokesperson for Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), which oversees the island's China policy, told CNN that its top official, Wang Yu-chi, was due to meet with counterpart Zhang Zhijun.

Previous contact between the two sides has been conducted through semi-official foundations or through political parties, not by government ministers acting in their official capacities.

On his departure from Taipei, Wang said the visit would not be "easy" and the two sides would not sign any specific agreements, according to Taiwan's Central News Agency.

The meeting will take place in Nanjing, which was the seat of government under the Kuomintang or Nationalist party before a civil war with the Chinese Communists forced Nationalist forces to flee to Taiwan in 1949.

Ever since, the island and mainland China have been governed separately, both claiming to be the true government of China.

A statement on the MAC's website said the trip "marked a significant step to develop and normalize" relations between the two.

However, the exclusion of two Taiwan reporters from covering the meeting has soured the start of Wang's historic visit, which is expected to last four days in total.

Two journalists from Taiwan's Apple Daily and Radio Free Asia were excluded from a delegation of more than 80 reporters accompanying Wang, according to Freedom House, a press freedom watchdog.

"The Chinese government's refusal to grant access to these journalists reflects two important trends—the Communist Party's expansion of its tactics for influencing media from Hong Kong to Taiwan, and the government's use of visa denials as a way to punish overseas news outlets for critical coverage," said Sarah Cook, senior research analyst at Freedom House.

Body under parking lot is Richard III

DNA tests have confirmed that human remains found buried beneath an English car park are those of the country's King Richard III.

British scientists announced Monday they are convinced "beyond reasonable doubt" that a skeleton found during an archaeological dig in Leicester, central England, last August is that of the former king, who was killed at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485.

Mitochondrial DNA extracted from the bones was matched to Michael Ibsen, a Canadian cabinetmaker and direct descendant of Richard III's sister, Anne of York, and a second distant relative, who wishes to remain anonymous.

Experts say other evidence -- including battle wounds and signs of scoliosis, or curvature of the spine -- found during the search and the more than four months of tests since strongly support the DNA findings -- and suggest that history's view of the king as a hunchbacked villain may have to be rewritten.

Ibsen said he reacted with "stunned silence" when told the closely-guarded results. "I never thought I'd be a match, and certainly not that it would be so close, but the results look like a carbon copy," he told reporters.

The skeleton was discovered buried among the remains of what was once the city's Greyfriars friary. After centuries of demolition and rebuilding work, the grave's exact location had been lost to history, and there were even reports that the defeated monarch's body had been dug up and thrown into a nearby river.

Read more: Richard III: The king and the car park?

The remains will be reburied in Leicester Cathedral, close to the site of his original grave, once the full analysis of the bones is completed.

Richard III's body was found in a roughly-hewn grave, which experts say was too small for the body, forcing it to be squeezed in to an unusual position.

Its feet had been lost at some point in the intervening five centuries, but the rest of the bones were in good condition, which archaeologists and historians say was incredibly lucky, given how close later building work came to them -- brick foundations ran alongside part of the trench, within inches of the body.

King Richard III's genome to be sequenced

Cracking the genetic code of Richard III

Scientists are to sequence the entire genome of Richard III -- the King found buried beneath an English car parking lot -- in an attempt to discover once and for all what the long-missing monarch really looked like.

Experts hope the project will reveal the color of Richard's hair and eyes, and uncover the genetic markers for any health conditions he suffered, or might have been at risk of, had he not been killed, aged just 32, at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485.

"It should give us an insight into his genetic make-up, his predisposition to disease," said Turi King, the geneticist who will lead the genome project.

King, who carried out the DNA tests on the bones, proving their royal identity, said she was particularly keen "to see whether or not Richard was predisposed towards scoliosis, for example."

If the tests succeed, they should enable historians to tell just how accurate portraits of the controversial King are, and give them an insight into whether pro-Tudor propaganda in the decades after his death meant he was painted in a deliberately unflattering light.

"There are no contemporary portraits of Richard," said King. "All the portraits that exist post-date his death by about 40 to 50 years onwards. So it's going to be interesting to see what the genetic information provides in relation to what we know from the portraits."

Richard III is best known as the hunchbacked anti-hero of Shakespeare's play, whose physical deformities echo his villainous nature, and who is blamed for the murder of his nephews, the princes in the tower, but many modern historians believe that image is exaggerated, and have sought to rehabilitate his reputation.

He will be the first known historical figure to have his genes studied in this way; scientists have previously sequenced the genomes of Oetzi the Iceman, a number of Neanderthals, and most recently a hunter-gatherer from Spain.

Sequencing the first human genome took 13 years and cost about $3 billion; now it can be done for a fraction of that cost, in a matter of hours.

Italian police, FBI join in anti-mafia raid

Members of the powerful Gambino and Bonanno crime families were among 24 people arrested Tuesday in New York and several cities in Italy in a major anti-mafia raid, authorities said.

The FBI and Italian police carried out the raid as part of operation "New Bridge," which targeted more than 40 people for international drug trafficking and organized crime in connection with the 'Ndrangheta mafia, officials added.

Italian police arrested 17 suspects, anti-mafia prosecutor Franco Roberti told reporters at a news conference in Rome.

The FBI arrested seven people in New York in a coordinated raid, he added, including members of the Gambino and Bonanno families.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of New York named the seven suspects as 'Ndrangheta member Raffaele Valente, also known as "Lello," Gambino associate Franco Lupoi, Bonanno associate Charles Centaro, also known as "Charlie Pepsi," Dominic Ali, Alexander Chan, Christos Fasarakis, and Jose Alfredo Garcia, also known as "Freddy."

The defendants are charged with drug trafficking, money laundering and firearms offenses, "based, in part, on their participation in a transnational heroin and cocaine trafficking conspiracy involving the 'Ndrangheta, one of Italy's most powerful organized crime syndicates," it said.

Investigators speaking at the news conference in Rome said the money found in the raids amounted to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The operations in Italy were carried out in the southern region of Calabria, home of the 'Ndrangheta syndicate, and in the cities of Naples, Caserta, Torino, Benevento and Catanzaro. The Italian mafia family involved in the alliance, or "bridge," with the Gambino family, is called Ursino Ionica.

Tuesday's operation was the first ever jointly run by U.S. and Italian police targeting the ties between the two countries' 'Ndrangheta mafia families, investigators said.

Anti-mafia prosecutors in Calabria have been carrying out an investigation over the past two years, and Italian police compiled a 2,000-page report detailing what was learned, including information from phone wiretaps.

Bill Murray backs George Clooney over Elgin Marbles

Clooney told Murray the story of the film a year before he cast it
The Monuments Men actor Bill Murray has backed his co-star and director George Clooney's view the UK should return the Elgin Marbles to Greece.

Asked by a Greek reporter on Sunday if the British Museum should hand the Marbles back, Clooney said: "That would be the right thing to do."

On Tuesday, at a London press conference to promote the film, Murray said: "London's gotten crowded.

"There's plenty of room in Greece. England could take the lead on this."

Murray said the Elgin Marbles reflected "a problem all over the world" where artefacts from other countries are on display.

The Marbles had "had a very nice stay" in the UK, he added.

The Monuments Men dramatises a real-life wartime story
Clooney joked he did not really know anything about the issue, following remarks in the Independent from Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee chairman John Whittingdale, who told the newspaper: "He's an American. I suspect he doesn't know why it is that Britain came to acquire the Elgin Marbles."

The film-maker and actor said: "Even in England, the polling shows more in favour of returning them. There should be an open discussion."

The Marbles were shipped by Lord Elgin to London in the early 1800s and have been in the British Museum ever since.

But the Greek government and many historians want them to be handed back to Greece.

Based on Robert M Edsel's book Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History, the film dramatises the real-life story of a team sent to Germany during World War Two to try to stop the Allies bombing historical landmarks and to recover art looted by the Nazis.

'Shamelessly corny'

It features an ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Clooney, Murray, Hugh Bonneville, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin and Bob Balaban.

But many reviews have been unfavourable - its average rating on the Rotten Tomatoes website is 5.3 out of 10, and it was beaten by the Lego Movie at the US box office in its opening weekend.

Kenneth Turan wrote in the Los Angeles Times: "Earnest and well-intentioned but ultimately inert, The Monuments Men talks a better game than it can deliver."

The New York Times's Manohla Dargis wrote: "Because Mr Clooney can't figure out what kind of story this is, he too often slips into pandering mode, including in his own performance, which is filled with too many smiles and speeches."

But Richard Roeper in the Chicago Sun Times, was kinder, describing it as "engaging, shamelessly corny and entertaining".

Edsel, who was at the press conference, said he was happy to have his book dramatised for the big screen, adding: "I want to reach the broadest audience possible."

The final word went to Harry Ettlinger, 88, one of the original Monuments Men, who explained what art meant to him, saying: "We would not like life with white walls around us."

The Monuments Men is released in the UK on Friday 14 February.

Parents unaware of dangers faced by children on smartphones

Parents are advised to set talk to their children about how they use their smartphones
Many parents are out of touch with the dangers faced by their children on tablets and smartphones, according to a poll by BBC Learning.

Almost one in five children said they had seen something on their devices that had upset them, twice the number parents had thought.

A separate study found that just over 20% of parents do not monitor what their children are doing online.

The research was commissioned as part of Safer Internet Day.

While 90% of the parents surveyed by the BBC in England said they had spoken to their children about staying safe online when using a tablet or a smartphone, most said they allowed their children to use them unsupervised.

Parental controls

"Unfortunately, none of us - of whatever age - is immune from encountering problems online," said Tony Neate, chief executive of Get Safe Online.

"Without using controls such as built-in security, safety and privacy features and search engine filters, children will almost certainly run into something that really isn't appropriate for their age, or any age."

The survey also found that teenagers aged 13-16 were more vulnerable to being bullied online than those aged 8-12. However, parents worried less about the older group using a tablet.

David Emm, senior security researcher at Kaspersky Lab said parents were not often as aware of the dangers of using the internet on tablets and smartphones as they were with PCs.

"When children use mobile devices to access the web, they are using the same internet, with the same risks," he said.

"There is a common misconception that smartphones and tablets don't need the same level of protection as a PC.

"But with such a high percentage of parents not having a clear view of their children's online activity, this way of thinking needs to change."

Over 50% of parents had set up filters on their tablets for when children used them
Unmonitored losses

Apple's iPhone and iPad have restrictions, or parental controls, that can be set using a passcode.

Access to certain apps or websites can be blocked completely or restricted to age appropriate content.

Restricted profile accounts can also be set up on Android smartphones and tablets.

Over 50% of parents who took part in the BBC poll said they had set up parental controls and filters on their tablets but only 40% said they had done the same on their children's smartphones.

Kapersky Lab's own survey revealed that 18% of parents had lost money or data from their own phone or tablet because their children had been using it unmonitored.

In-app purchases made by children when playing games on their parents' phones are often cited as a reason for money being spent unwittingly.

Apple was recently told to refund $32.5m (£19.8m) to parents whose children had made purchases without their parents' consent.

Adults were also being warned to stay safe online as Microsoft released its annual online consumer safety research.

It showed that 5% of consumers in the UK had fallen victim to a phishing attack - losing on average £100. Meanwhile, 3% said they had suffered identity theft which had ended up costing them £100.

The software giant recommended that users set PINs for their mobile phones and strong passwords for online accounts.

Manager Reaction West Ham 2-0 Norwich
West Ham boss Big Sam Allardyce: "I'm delighted, it was a hell of a game Norwich gave us tonight. I had the chairman ringing me up to say we had not won under lights this season or last and that was in my mind.

"Our goalkeeper kept us in the game and we scored late, when it is hard for anybody to come back into it. It's a great end to an important run of fixtures. If Norwich continue like that, they will have no problems. They were very good and gave us a good game."
21:57
Manager reaction Cardiff 0-0 Aston Villa
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert: "I thought David Marshall pulled off two world-class saves in the second half - the one at the end and the one earlier to his left hand side.

"Second half, I thought we were excellent and on another night we would have come away as winners.

"If you pick up points away from home they'll take you a long way in this league, so I'm happy with a point."

Hollywood star Shirley Temple dies

A look back at the life of Shirley Temple Former Hollywood child star Shirley Temple has died at the age of 85.

With her adorable charm and blonde curls, she was one of the most popular stars of the 1930s, in hit movies like Bright Eyes and Stand Up and Cheer.

After retiring from films in 1950 at the age of 21, Temple returned to the spotlight as a politician and diplomat.

She died on Monday at home in Woodside, California, from natural causes. "She was surrounded by her family and caregivers," a statement said.

Born in 1928, Temple soon became a major star after getting her first film role at the age of three.

She accepted the Screen Actors Guild Awards life achievement award in 2006
Her singing, dancing and acting won over fans worldwide. She was given a special juvenile Oscar in 1935, when she was just six years old. To this day, she is still the youngest person to receive an Academy Award.

With the nickname "America's little darling", she was ranked as Hollywood's biggest draw for four years running from 1935 to '38 in an annual poll of US cinema owners.

Her rendition of the song On the Good Ship Lollipop in the film Bright Eyes was among her most famous performances.

Her other films included Curly Top, The Littlest Rebel, Baby Take a Bow and Little Miss Marker.

She was such a hit that US president Franklin Delano Roosevelt dubbed her "Little Miss Miracle" for raising morale during the Great Depression and she was credited with helping save 20th Century Fox from bankruptcy.

Temple starred in a total of 43 feature films - but found it difficult to sustain her career in adulthood and left acting behind in 1950.

She continued to appear on television, but that work dried up and she eventually stepped away from the spotlight.

When she came back into the public eye, it was in a new guise. Under her married name Shirley Temple Black, she ran as a Republican candidate for Congress in 1967 but lost.

Richard Nixon later appointed her as a member of the US delegation to the United Nations General Assembly before President Ford named her the US ambassador to Ghana in 1974.

In 1989, she was made the US ambassador to Czechoslovakia shortly before the fall of the country's Communist regime.

She considered her background in entertainment an asset to her political career. "Politicians are actors too, don't you think?" she once said.

In a statement announcing her death, her family said: "We salute her for a life of remarkable achievements as an actor, as a diplomat, and most importantly as our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and adored wife for 55 years of the late and much missed Charles Alden Black."

Actor George Clooney was among those to pay tribute. He said: "Watching clips of her, it's so amazing that she was such a part of our film history from the very beginning.

"I'm sure it wasn't easy being a child star, although she went on to become an ambassador, so she re-invented herself along the way. But it's a great loss. I wish all the best for her family and thank her for her contribution."

Actress Whoopi Goldberg wrote on Twitter: "The Good Ship Lollypop has sailed today with Shirley Temple aboard," and described the star as a true one of a kind.

Joan Rivers tweeted: "Rest in peace, Shirley Temple Black. I know that you're sailing up and away on the Good Ship."

Film critic Leonard Maltin wrote: "One of the most talented and brightest stars in the world has gone to the sky. A genuine phenomenon."

West Brom 1-1 Chelsea

West Brom substitute Victor Anichebe scored a late equaliser to deny leaders Chelsea a vital win at The Hawthorns.

The Blues looked set to open up a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League table when Branislav Ivanovic swept home following a David Luiz flick from Willian's corner.

West Brom keeper Ben Foster saved well from Samuel Eto'o and Willian.
But the Baggies moved out of the bottom three after Anichebe got ahead of Luiz to head home Saido Berahino's cross.

Chelsea created enough chances to have won comfortably but will be replaced at the top of the table if either Arsenal or Manchester City win on Wednesday. The Gunners are at home to Manchester United, while City host Sunderland.

Anichebe's 87th-minute equaliser will raise questions as to whether Jose Mourinho's side, who were held to a goalless draw by West Ham two weeks ago, have the quality to win the title.

In a game that will not live long in the memory, Ivanovic's goal in the third minute of stoppage time was reward for a dominant first-half display.

Chelsea smothered West Brom with possession yet Willian's long-range effort was the closest they came before their Serbia defender pounced from inside the six-yard area.

Eto'o had already forced a fine save from Foster, while the lively Willian was denied a chance to open a two-goal cushion by the Baggies keeper.

West Brom, who came from behind to force a 1-1 draw against Liverpool on 2 February, rallied and again displayed their battling qualities.

But skipper Chris Brunt and James Morrison lost their composure when presented with chances to equalise.
And 21-year-old striker Thievy Bifouma, making his first start since joining on loan from Espanyol, fired across the face of goal.

That looked it for the hosts but, moments after Blues defender Gary Cahill had been treated for an injury, Anichebe sent Baggies fans into raptures with an excellent header that lifted his side out of the relegation zone into 17th spot.

UK floods: PM says money 'no object' in relief effort

David Cameron: "Money is no object in this relief effort"
The prime minister says money will be no object as flood relief efforts continue across swathes of the UK.

David Cameron warned the severe weather was not over, saying: "Things could get worse before they get better."

Fourteen severe flood warnings remain in place in Berkshire and Surrey and two remain in Somerset.

Around 1,000 properties have been evacuated, thousands more are at risk and there are warnings of snow, high winds and more rain later and tomorrow.

The Met Office has issued an amber "be prepared" warning of wind on Wednesday as well as yellow "be aware" snow, wind and rain warnings.

It said the "potentially damaging winds" could be strong enough to bring down trees, causing transport and power network problems.

Speaking at a Downing Street press conference after returning from the flood-stricken South West, Mr Cameron said: "Money is no object in this relief effort. Whatever money is needed we will spend it."

Emergency services have been working to rescue stranded residents in Wraysbury, Berkshire
He urged people to unite in a "great national effort" and said the UK was in it for the "long haul".

The prime minister said he was cancelling his visit to the Middle East next week to focus on the government's response to the floods, adding: "Nothing is more important than dealing with these floods."

Mr Cameron announced:

Thousands more military personnel available to help in flood-hit areas - with 1,600 troops to have been deployed by the end of Tuesday and thousands more available
Government to get insurance companies into affected areas so "people can make their claims quickly"
The Association of British Insurers and the Confederation of British Industry to meet at Downing Street later to develop support plans for businesses
Grants to help homeowners build better flood defences and repair properties
Businesses affected by floods to get "longer to pay their taxes"
Up to £10m to help farmers recover
A new cabinet committee to deal with the recovery, with Mr Cameron to chair its first meeting on Thursday
He vowed lessons would be learned, adding: "We will deal with the floods and we will build a more resilient country for the future."

The prime minister, who later chaired another Cobra emergency committee meeting, praised Environment Agency staff, saying they "have done an extraordinarily good job".

BBC chief political correspondent Norman Smith said the most striking aspect of what Mr Cameron had to say was his suggestion the government would spend whatever was needed to help get those affected by the flooding back on their feet.

It was an attempt by Mr Cameron to project himself as the national leader in charge of a national crisis, our correspondent said, adding that the prime minister had not sought to diminish the scale of the challenge ahead.

The Met Office says it has been the wettest winter on record for south-east and central southern England since its records began in 1910.

'Unprecedented'

About 1,000 homes have been evacuated along the Thames after towns and villages including Chertsey, Wraysbury and Datchet, were flooded, with thousands more properties still at risk.

The Environment Agency warned it was "increasingly likely" that homes along the River Severn and River Wye would also experience problems.

The prime minister has been visiting flood-hit areas including Staines-upon-Thames

Police officers rescued a dog from a flooded property in Egham, Surrey

A volunteer helps ferry residents of Purley on Thames, Berkshire
Chief Supt Matt Twist, of Surrey Police, said a "major incident" had been declared in the county and the flooding was "unprecedented". A total of 2,500 homes in the county were at risk of flooding, he added.

Further evacuations have been taking place in the Staines and Egham area.

More than 5,000 properties have been flooded altogether in the last two months after the "most exceptional period of rainfall" to hit parts of England and Wales for nearly 250 years.

In developments around the affected areas:

Flood levels have affected Ironbridge in Shropshire as the River Severn continues to rise, and the local council said residents should treat it as a "serious situation"
538 people have been rescued from floods in Surrey since Sunday, Surrey Police said - more than half of those were rescued on Tuesday alone
More than 100 homes have so far been flooded in Worcester
Flood levels on the River Severn in Worcestershire may rise further, the Environment Agency has said - a peak of 5.4m was recorded at Upton-upon-Severn on Monday, but it could be 10cm higher on Thursday
In the Tewkesbury area, in Gloucestershire, water levels are expected to rise by a further 30cm (12in) and levels will stay elevated in parts of the county for "some time", the Environment Agency said.

Snowfall has affected travel in some parts of Wales, with heavy rain and coastal gales forecast Coastal communities in Wales face being abandoned as rising sea levels mean the cost of maintaining defences can no longer be justified Groundwater levels are so high in some parts of the country that flooding is likely to persist for weeks or even months
'Be prepared'

As well as there being 16 severe flood warnings the Environment Agency has also issued about 350 less serious flood warnings and alerts, mostly in southern England and the Midlands.

There are Met Office severe weather warnings for almost the whole of the UK for Wednesday, with strong winds, snow and rain expected. Amber wind warnings, meaning "be prepared", will be in place from 10:00 GMT for parts of Wales, northern England, south-west England and the West Midlands.

A yellow warning for snow covers northern and western parts of the UK - but not the South West - for the rest of Tuesday and Wednesday.

BBC weather forecaster Louise Lear said there was the potential for storm-force gusts of wind during the afternoon, reaching speeds of 70-80mph - and maybe higher - on exposed coasts.

Flooding near Maidenhead has caused cancellations and severe delays on journeys between London Paddington and Reading.

First Great Western is advising passengers in the affected areas only to travel if it is absolutely necessary.

Spokesman Dan Panes said the problems had been caused by water getting into Network Rail's signalling and safety equipment.

BBC Weather presenter Chris Fawkes explains what's behind the seemingly endless rain
He said: "Network Rail are having to signal us into the area by hand at every single stop... it means that rather than 25 trains an hour into and out of Paddington, we are only able to run four at the moment."

Services are also suspended on South West Trains between Staines and Windsor and Eton Riverside, and the main train line from London to Cornwall remains severed at Dawlish.

'No finger pointing'

Earlier, Defence Secretary Philip Hammond told the BBC the government had got a "grip" on the crisis and everything was being done to help those affected.

Mr Hammond, who is also MP for Runnymede and Weybridge, said: "The assets that are needed from across the nation have been mobilised into the areas affected."

Asked about Environment Agency Chairman Lord Smith, who has faced criticism for not doing enough to help those affected, he said: "I don't want to spend the time now in the middle of this crisis recriminating and finger pointing."

Labour leader Ed Miliband, on a visit to Wraysbury, said flood defences should be made a higher priority by the government.

He said: "I think finger-pointing is not what the government should be doing, it's rolling their sleeves up and getting on with getting people the help, making sure that all the necessary agencies are working together, all the help is being provided for people."

Mr Cameron spent two days visiting flood-hit communities across south-west England including Dawlish, Devon, where a stretch of railway was washed away in the floods, and Staines-upon-Thames in Surrey.

Some Wraysbury residents used canoes to make their way through the village

Fields near the River Severn in Worcester were also flooded

Tube strike: Unions suspend strike after reaching deal

Last week's Tube strike caused widespread disruption
A second planned 48-hour strike by Tube workers has been suspended after unions reached a deal with London Underground.

The TSSA and RMT unions have agreed to pause the industrial action, which was due to start at 21:00 GMT, so further talks can take place with LU.

A 48-hour strike last week caused major disruption across the capital.

Talks to resolve the dispute, which centres on the closure of all 260 Tube ticket offices and 960 job cuts, have been held at conciliation service Acas.

LU said it had proposed two months of intensive talks with the unions, starting on Wednesday.

It said it had always wanted the "unions to engage fully with us" on the future of the Tube.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow said the agreement gave the union the opportunity to discuss the changes "away from the pressure cooker".

In a letter to RMT members, Mr Crow said:

LU had agreed a station-by-station review of the ticket office closures, which could mean that some will stay open
LU will not implement its proposals until further consultations are held on 4 April
During the discussion period, LU will put on hold all voluntary severance applications received
"We now have a golden opportunity to look again in detail at all of the concerns we have raised about the impact of the cuts on our members and the services that they provide to Londoners," Mr Crow said.

"That is exactly what we have been calling for throughout this dispute."

Mr Crow added the strike action would be back on if there was "any further attempt to impose change from above".

Speaking to BBC London, Mr Crow said he did not regret last week's strike.

"They weren't taking us seriously until we called the strike action and we got more done over that period of time when the strike action took place," he said.

"I think having a two-day strike was absolutely crucial."

A TSSA spokesman said the union was pleased with the plans.

Millions of commuters were hit as Tube staff walked out for 48 hours last week
TfL has said its proposals - which do not involve compulsory redundancies - would save £50m a year.

LU managing director Mike Brown said: "We have always said that we want the unions to engage fully with us, to help shape our proposals for the future of the Tube.

"The hard work of both the LU and union negotiating teams and the progress we have made at Acas over the last few days means we can do that without further unnecessary disruption to Londoners."

Emmy Collins Raps Bishop David Oyedepo

Touching God's anointed.

Love him or hate him, Nigerian/Dutch fashion designer, Emmy Collins is gradually becoming a force to reckon with, especially with the way he takes on celebrities and tear them into pieces with his often critical appraisal of them.

He has rubbished the likes of Mercy Johnson, Toke Makinwa, Tiwa Savage and Rita Dominic in the past and as part of his weekly blog round up, he is up in arms with Bishop David Oyedepo, the General Overseer and Founder of the Winners' Chapel, over the introduction of an alleged e-payment system in Covenant University, owned by the aim, with the aim of encouraging the students to pay their tithes and offerings on the go.

Here is what Emmy Collins wrote on his blog:

"I fit lie and say to you guys that I'm a fan of Nigerian Pastors but I won't do that; so I'm gonna come out with my hands held up high and say, I detest the acts of most of them especially the very rich ones such as Daddy Oyedepo.

Anytime I read articles about these funky rich, Rolex wearing, Rolls Royce driving pastors, I like to share them here. Please find below an article I just read about daddy, lol.

This is not as nasty as some I have read in recent times but nonetheless, it didn't portend good for Daddy. No be me write am o.

Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Winners Chapel which owns Covenant University, has introduced e-transact for the collection of tithes and offering in the church.

Reports say there is now a big notice board set up at the entrance of the university situated at Ota, along the Idiroko Road, Ogun State, which says:

'Pay your tithe and offering on the go: For tithe, dial *389*77* Amount # and For offering, dial *389*78* Amount #.'

The e-payment method for tithes and offering was introduced a few months back, especially for the Covenant University students who worship there."

I am sure many of you will want to eat up Emmy Collins; you have the field.

Rapper AKA Frowns At Artist Decrimination In Africa

"I Can't Open For Any International Act"

This is as far as this 'artists descrimination' goes for the South African rapper. Will he be heard?

South African rapper AKA blames ill treatment of Local Artists in Africa on Promoters

AKA performing in South Africa  (Twitter)

AKA says International Acts are treated far better in Africa.
English/South African rapper, AKA (real name: Akala Kingslee James Daley) has spoken out once again on his view about Artist Decrimination in Africa. One of Mzanzi's most vocal rappers questions why African artists always open for international acts who come into their continent for concerts, whether big or small? He says the saddest part is, "African stakeholders encourage the situation".

In a telephonic interview with Yfm in South Africa Tuesday morning, the award-winning rap act was made to answer why he may not open for any international act while in Africa. The star claims, it's an unfair situation, "We are past being opening acts for US/European artists in our own country [S.A]".

AKA obviously meant home based stars should be treated same as those from overseas. If its a Snoop Lion, Akon, Rihanna, Lil Wayne or Beyonce, they all should be on same level of respect as fellow African stars. Fair enough!

This rant came at the nick of Kendrick Lamar's concert in SA where many thought it would be a come-together of HipHop but according to Sowetan Live, AKA tweeted that local artists were warned to not walk on Kendrick's ramp during their set and if they did certain repercussions would be met.

After receiving criticisms from some fellow Africans post the stand up call on radio, AKA once again took to twitter to say, "Only in S.A can you get backlash for standing up for South Africa."

However, other Africans found the rapper's candid opinion as a wakeup call for other stars. Some fans posted their own judgment on Twitter too,

"@metalorgan: Dankie @akaworldwide, we like Americans more than our own pple. We even booed our own president and cheered for Obama, mxm."

"I blame promoters, fans and stakeholders for putting African artists second every time. #annoying"

"I love @akaworldwide. He respects himself and the art." And it goes on and on....

Guys, what do you think of this? Should AKA shut up or keep on talking?

T.I Blasts His Wife Tiny

Your Ass Is Mine Only Not For Twitter!

The rapper is definitely selfish! But is he wrong?

T.I fights his wife, Tiny, on Instagram over her ass.

T.I frowns at his his wife posting her ass on Instagram
Hip Hop couple T.I and Tiny are obviously not so private. After battling with separation rumours couple of weeks back, the duo is now fighting on Twitter over who owns Tiny's ass! The rapper allegedly warned his dear wife to take off her behind off the social network for good.

The pegged "The Hip Hop Huxtables," became the subject of separation rumors after T.I posted a cryptic message implying that the couple had called it quits.  To fuel the rumors even more, Tiny began happily flossing her left hand in photos, which no longer bears her wedding ring. Recently, she has been posting up back shots on her Instagram.

Her latest raunchy photos sparked a debate amongst fans on whether or not a mother and wife should be posting up booty pics all over social media. However, they cooled off thinking the only opinion that really counts is her hubby's!

Last night, T.I. finally jumped into the matter implying that he's had enough, and he commented below one of her Instagram photos for all to see:

"U have so much more going for u other than your a$. Although it is magnificent,  I think u should spend just as much time showcasing those other things as u do ya booty ...awesome pic luv."
Well, His wife Tiny didn't let down, she responded: "I wasn't showing off my ass in this pic it was about my waist..u just looking at the ass bae! U no I wasn't saying getting my sh-t together about my ass now don't u? But glad u like it bae."

Meanwhile, fans of the couple could not believe T.I. attempted to drop the ball on his wife on Twitter and they responded with numerous reactions.

Our guess is that may be this all could be a publicity ploy for a new season of their show, "T.I & Tiny," a reality show considered the second-most watched show on VH1 in 2013. If not, this could be a sign that a separation is on its way but, up until a few days ago, Tiny was still wearing her wedding ring in photos posted on Instagram.

Atleast, that's some hope.

Angelina Jolie Brad Pitt Is Mine, Not Lupita Nyongo’s!

Angie is allegedly jealous of the 2 Years A Slave star, Lupita Nyong'o. Brad has a huge crush!

Angelina Jolie angry at Brad Pitt's Crush, Lupita Nyong'O

Brad Pitt has a crush on Lupita Nyong'O

Top Hollywood actress, Angelina Jolie is allegedly jealous of Hollywood's New It Girl, Lupita Nyong'o over her husband, Brad Pitt's huge crush on the star.

According to The National Enquirer, who also ran an exclusive false alarm years ago saying Jennifer Aniston was pregnant, Brad Pitt has gone completely 'gaga' for the dark skinned actress.

The report continued that the A-list actor was able to hide his deep admiration from his wife for a just a while, but finally came clean when he gushed about the Kenyan beauty at the Producers Guild Awards.

"She's very special, a very special young lady. We're going to see great things from her", he said. After the event Brad reportedly dashed off to meet his family in Australia but Angie wasn't so happy to have him back because,

A source reveals to the magazine that Angelina read the riot act when he arrived.

"He wasn't welcomed with open arms. She told him that he didn't need to make his 'crush' on Lupita so obvious to the entire world. Angie is working her tail off, juggling directing duties and caring for their kids. Meanwhile, Brad is running around on the other side of the globe acting like a carefree bachelor."

Lupita made quite an impression at the event; a magnificent dress, great composure and was seen hugging, kissing and taking selfies with Hollywood's finest stars. We earlier reported that she even had a kiss of approval from The Wolf of War Street, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt could be spotted cozying next to her all through with a grin on his face.

The source concludes by saying

"Brad's fixation with Lupita isn't sitting well with Angie. Despite his devotion to her and their children, Angelina can't let go of the nagging worry that Brad is on the prowl for the next hot thing to come along in Hollywood."

May be true or not. After all, same magazine once claimed that Beyoncé and Jay-Z are sad that their good friend Wendy Williams didn't defend Queen Bey with rumors that she wasn't carrying Baby Blue.

Was that really a lie? What do you guys think of this report now?

Read the Picture message

Actress Angela Okorie
Fast rising Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie is not a happy woman at the moment as she is still trying to come to terms with her rumoured dead which has been spreading like wild fire in the past few days.

It was a clear case of mistaken identity and lack of verification by bloggers who heard the news that an actress by the name Ijeoma Okori had died during child birth.

Without cross checking their facts, they went to town, claiming Angela was the one who died, not knowing the said Ijeoma was an actress based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.

To correct the impression, the pretty Angela took to social media to let her fans know she is not the person that died.

In a picture she posted on her Facebook wall, Angela Okorie said she bears the mark of Christ and shall live to declare the works of her Lord.

She also posted a message to her fans to disregard the rumour that she was the one that died.

Tom Cruise Sued For $1 BILLION Over Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol Script

A man claims to have come up with the idea first and it was stolen from him, so $1B isn't so bad?

Lawsuit: Tom Cruise slammed $1 Billion suit

Tom Cruise sued $1B over Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol

Actor Tom Cruise has been sued for one billion dollars for the film Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol by a screenwriter, Timothy Patrick McLanahan who claims the film came from the script for his own film title, Head On.

According to legal documents filed by McLanahan in December, the hit action movie, which sold $600M worth of tickets worldwide, came from his script Head On and reports also say Paramount Pictures is also named in the suit.

The film came out more than two years ago, but only recently has a complaint been made that there is a major problem with Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. It was such a massive success, bringing Tom Cruise back on the A list and making a star of Paula Patton.

According to RadarOnline, McLanahan claims he'd written a familiar script for another movie few years ago. "In 1998 I had written a screenplay called Head On,' he wrote in legal documents, 'After submitting it to the U.S. Copyright Office, Head On received a copyright certificate protecting its material and author from unauthorized use.'

The writer then detailed the trail of hands the script went through, starting with William Morris Agency, which sent it to CAA, where Tom is a client. McLanahan is claiming his script was put in front of Cruise's agent Rick Nicita, who is married to the star's production partner Paula Wagner and says there was not that much interest in Head On.

But in 2011 when Tom's big-budget Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol came out, McLanahan thought it seemed awfully familiar.

"I immediately recognized that the scripts for this movie had been illegally written and produced from Head On's 1998 copyright,' the writer claimed in documents.

Here is how the writer came to the $1 billion amount: He added up ticket sales ($694,710,000), DVD and blue ray sales ($144.5 million), and movie rentals and subscription sales and budget ($145 million), according to Radar.

There are still no comments from either Cruise or his reps but this becomes the actor's second linvolvment in a awsuit in less than a year. In mid December the Top Gun actor settled his $50m lawsuit with Bauer Publishing over a claim that he had 'abandoned' his daughter Suri, who he had with ex-wife Katie Holmes, according to reports.

This Strange Church Worships In The Nude ‘Because Jesus Was Crucified Naked’ Signs of the end time

Pastor Allen Parker preaching(CNN)
In this world, weird things happen every day but you will be shocked with the discovery of this church in Virginia, United States of America, called White Tail Chapel, which worships in the nude 'because the founder, Pastor Allen Parker says Jesus Christ was crucified naked,' and its slogan is 'Bare More Than Your Naked Soul.'

According to Huffingtonpost.com, the church is 'located on the grounds of the White Tail Resort in Ivor, Virginia, and focuses on casting off material concerns, including clothes.

White Tail Resort describes itself as a Family Nudist Community, where visitors can enjoy all manner of activities, including spiritual worship, completely naked.

Pastor Parker allegedly told ABC 13 that many of 'Jesus' most important moments happened while he was naked.'

"When he was born he was naked, when he was crucified, he was naked and when he arose, he left his clothes in the tomb and he was naked. If God made us that way, how can that be wrong?"

Pastor Parker says he draws at least some of his opinions on nudity from the book of Genesis, in which Adam and Eve were originally described as 'both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.'

"It was only after sinfully eating forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge that Adam and Eve are said to have seen their nudity as shameful, at which point they sowed fig leaves into loincloths."

"People are more open as far as hearing the word of God, and speaking the word of God. I consider this a gift and a privilege God has given me," Parker also told ABC 13.
