Thoughts for Today

Yesterday we discussed speaking the truth in love. Author David Augsburger expands on this thought by suggesting a creative way to deal with conflict that he calls "carefronting."

When in conflict, there are ways to confront your spouse in love without being judgmental. One such way is to focus your feedback on the action, not on the actor. This gives your spouse the freedom to change the behavior without feeling personal rejection.

It's also good to focus your feedback on your observations, not on your conclusions. Don't comment on what you think or imagine, but on what you have actually seen or heard. You are less likely to put your spouse on the defensive.

Focus your feedback not on why, but on what and how. Why critiques values, motives and intents. Why is judgmental, but what and how relate to observable actions, behaviors, words and tone of voice.

Consider this ...

Carefronting should be done caringly, gently, constructively and clearly-not with put-downs and condemnation. Jesus set the example in the way he approached people during his ministry here on earth. Ask him to help you. He will teach you to speak the truth in love.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Father, please forgive me for the times I've responded to my spouse in anger, speaking harshly and putting him (her) down. Help me to respond caringly, gently, constructively and clearly. Teach me to speak the truth in love. In Jesus' name ...

Movie: ‘Son Of God’ Actor Diogo Morgado Talks About Playing Jesus

Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado became somewhat of an overnight sensation after his portrayal of Jesus in the History Channel hit miniseries The Bible, now he has been cast in the same role in Son of God.

The film from the same producers as the miniseries — husband and wife Mark Burnett and Roma Downey — took many of the same stars from the original to star in the new film.

The Bible was such a massive success that Burnett and Downey quickly decided to tell the story in a movie format and cast Mogrado in the role of Jesus once again.

Son of God will focus on the life of Jesus, using scenes from the miniseries, but also new footage.

When The Bible premiered March 3, 2013 it essentially beat all the shows airing on major networks and the last espisode tied in ratings with a new episode of AMC's high-rated series The Walking Dead.

As reported by The Inquisitr on Tuesday the producers have decided to scrap Satan from Son of God, after the casting of actor Mohamen Mehdi Ouzaani drew comparisons to President Obama because of their uncanny resemblance.

At the time, there was controversy when some accused the series of purposely casting Ouzaani as the devil, which Burnett and Downey called "utter nonsense."

Speaking of their decision Downey told The Hollywood Reporter:

"It gives me great pleasure to tell you that the devil is on the cutting-room floor (…) This is now a movie about Jesus, the son of God, and the devil gets no more screen time."

For actor Diogo Morgado, to play Jesus in the miniseries and now Son of God is a big responsibility and he is trying to make it an educational moment for kids:

"I saw this father and a young kid, they were praying (at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem). And I stood for like two hours there. By the time I left, they were still praying. And I realized whatever I was about to do would be connecting more with that kid than his father. We live in a visual world now. Kids can learn a lot by seeing things rather than reading it. So I really understood the responsibility."

Mogrado told Good Morning America he is trying to create a more "approachable" Jesus and is using this opportunity to reach those who may not necessarily know who the Son of God was and why the Bible is "the most important book."

Son of God — which opens February 28 — is one of a few Biblical themed movies to open in theaters. On March 28 Noah, starring Russell Crowe opens and in December viewers will get to experience Exodus with Christian Bale portraying Moses.

Finally WhatsApp Acquired By Facebook For $19 Billion

WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook for $19 billion. The messaging application essentially allows users to send text messages without an additional charge. Although the messaging is linked to users' cell phone numbers, the texts are sent through mobile broadband.

The application is currently listed as the most popular messaging software. With more than 450 million current users, WhatsApp adds nearly a million new users each day. Facebook Messenger is currently the second most popular messaging application. Therefore, the acquisition will solidify Facebook's position in the top spot.

WhatsApp's popularity has steadily increased as it is cost-effective. Mobile carriers traditionally charge additional fees for text messages — particularly those exchanged overseas. By avoiding cell phone networks, users can avoid the often excessive extra fees.

CNN reports that the messaging service is free for the first year. However, WhatsApp costs $1 per year thereafter. The minimal fee is far less than mobile carriers charge for international texting.

As part of the deal, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has committed to retaining current WhatsApp employees. WhatApp will simply be available as a separate application within Facebook. The plan is similar to Facebook's inclusion if Instagram.

The acquisition includes $4 billion cash, $12 billion in stock, and $3 billion in stock grants. The grants will be distributed to employees who complete a four-year contract with Facebook following the acquisition.

Additionally, WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum was appointed to Facebook's board of directors.

A native of the Ukraine, Koum's story is an inspiration. Born and raised in a rural village, he grew up in a home without hot water or a telephone. As the political environment was bleak and the family faced numerous anti-Semitic threats, Koum's mother fled the Ukraine with her only son.

Koum and his mother settled in Mountain View, California, when he was 16 years old. Although they made it to America, the family continued to struggle. Koum's mother was eventually diagnosed with cancer.

The ailing mother received a disability check every month. However, it barely covered necessary expenses for she and her son. Forbes reports that Koum often worked odd jobs to contribute.

In his spare time Koum read books about computer networking, which he purchased from used book stores. The determined young man eventually landed a job with Ernst & Young, where he continued to work as he attended San Jose State University.

Koum eventually left Ernst & Young to work for Yahoo. As the job was particularly demanding, he made the decision to drop out of college.

In 2000, Koum lost his mother to cancer. He also lost millions during the dotcom bust. Although he struggled for years, he and two friends eventually came up with an idea for a new mobile application. On February 29, 2009, Koum incorporated WhatsApp.

Five years later, WhatsApp has made him a multimillionaire.

Sanusi returns, quizzed by SSS

Suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Lamido Sanusi returned to the country on Thursday after attending an ECOWAS meeting in the Niger Republic.

Sanusi, who was in the company of APC chieftain and former FCT Minister, Nasir El-Rufai, was quizzed by the State Security Service, SSS, at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. His international passport was also seized.

It will be recalled that the presidency announced the suspension of Sanusi, citing breach of enabling laws, due process and mandate of the CBN as reasons for the action.

Top politician backs Sanusi: Atiku asks Sanusi to go to Court

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has cautioned the Federal Government against abuse of power following the abrupt manner the CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanisu was suspended.

Reacting to the suspension in a statement issued by his media office in Abuja, the former Vice President maintained that the President had no power to remove or suspend the CBN Governor in such manner.

Sanusi who was in Niger with other central bank governors of West Africa when the suspension was announced according to CBNC said 'Well I don't know what they are talking about when I come back I will see what those allegations are.

"I don't think there is any issue that is been raised that has not been raised before, but you know we all know what this is about. This is about the consequences for the changes that I have made and this is something that is long overdue. I'm surprised it took them so long," he explained.

"Basically, my biggest concern is for the system and I hope that the Nigerian economy will not be hurt by this. I also hope the integrity of the central bank will be protected … I've been fortunate to have had an opportunity to do some good work on the bank on stability. I would not want to see all of that unravelled and no individual is worth it," he said.

"You can suspend an individual but you can't suspend the truth. If this is all about the concerns around oil revenues in the oil sector, if this is going to bring back the 20 billion dollars then that is fine," he added.
"Like I said, I have no regrets, I have no ill-feelings, with no sadness, I'm happy. I'm proud of what I have done," Sanusi concluded.
According to Atiku, silence in the face of such abuse of power by the President of the country was capable of sending the wrong message and setting a dangerous precedent.
The former Vice President recalled that, when he became a victim of such abuse of power in the past following his suspension as Vice President by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, he went to court to challenge the action and that the Federal High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court ruled that a President cannot suspend a public officer he had no power to sack.

The former Vice President, who confessed that he has no details of the nature of Sanusi's alleged "offences", neither was he in the position to defend them, said "whatever might be the offence Sanusi committed, President Jonathan should have followed constitutional process to suspend or remove the CBN Governor instead of exceeding the boundary of his powers."

"This is not about Sanusi as a person, or the person nominated to succeed him, Godwin Emefiele who is a thorough bred professional. It is about due process that should be upheld," Atiku said.

Atiku therefore advised the suspended the CBN Governor to go to court to challenge his suspension in the interest of constitutionalism and the rule of law.

Police deploy Sniffer Dogs to 6 airports

Abuja – The police on Thursday commenced deployment of sniffer dogs to some international airports across the country as part of efforts to beef up security in those areas.
More than 20 dogs were deployed to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

At the occasion, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, said that the dogs would be deployed to five other international airports in the first phase.

The airports are Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano, Jos and Enugu.

Represented by Mr Michael Zuokumor, DIG (Operations Department), Abubakar said that the dogs would help in reducing crime at the nation's airports as they would be used for extensive patrol.

He said the dogs would be used to detect narcotics and explosives, check arms smuggling through the airports, rescue operations and to bolster the war against terror.

The inspector general also said that the dogs would enable the police to apprehend suspects, including those who attempt to evade arrest.

Abubakar said that the deployment of the dogs was in line with international best practice.

He added that it would provide security for passengers and protect critical infrastructure at the airports.
He charged the handlers of the dogs to respect the fundamental rights of passengers while carrying out their duties. (NAN)

Sen. Yarima, 29 others charged with attempted murder and robbery

A Zamfara High Court, sitting in Gusau, on Thursday adjourned a case of armed robbery and attempted murder preferred against Sen. Ahmed Yarima  and 29 others to  April 8.

Yarima, a former governor of Zamfara, was arraigned in the court by the Inspector-General of Police on an eight-count charge of armed robbery, conspiracy and attempt to commit murder, among others.
Yarima appeared before Justice Bello Gummi of the High Court along with the 29 co-accused persons.

However, the lead defence counsel, Mr Muhammad Katu, observed the prosecution should have cited the charges on separate sheets of paper to avoid duplication and complications.

This forced the judge to adjourn the sitting for about three hours.
On return,  Gummi ruled that the case was properly filed and ordered for the continuation of the case.

Both the  prosecution and defence counsel, Mr Oloye Torugbene and  Katu, respectively, however, applied  for an adjournment.

The judge adjourned the case to April 8 when the pleas of the accused would be taken by the court.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports  that Yarima was arraigned in the court by the IGP, following petitions by a serving member of the House of Representatives, representing Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, Ibrahim Shehu.

The senator was alleged to have conspired with other accused persons to kill the Shehu on the Aug. 22, 2013.

The complainant  also alleged that during the attack on him, the sum of N10 million was removed from his car. (NAN)

Nigerian driver’s licence accepted in Europe, U.S. – FRSC

Lagos – The upgraded Nigerian driver's licence is recognised in the U.S. and Europe, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said on Thursday.

The Lagos Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Chidi Nkwonta, in Lagos said that three states in the U.S. and seven countries in Europe accepted the licence.

According to him, the licence is recognised in Maryland, Washington DC and California in the U.S. as well as Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, Poland, Spain, Austria and Sweden in Europe.

"Maryland accepts Nigerian driver's licence provided it verifies that it is genuine; Washington accepts Nigerian driver's licence, and California too.

"We have seven countries already in Europe that accept our driver's licence, and we are working on other countries in Europe, " Nkwonta said.
The commander added that the FRSC was working hard to make sure that the Nigerian driver's licence was accepted in all states in the U.S.

He said that the data base and identity of the holder of the licence could be accessed in those countries, and that genuineness of the licence could be ascertained.

Nkwonta said that the licence contained a lot of security features that would make it difficult to produce fake copies.

"These countries know the processes of obtaining a driver's licence in Nigeria and the security features the licence contains; once they confirm its genuineness, they accept it," he said.

He, however, said that the holder would only be allowed to use the licence for a period of time in those countries.

The sector commander said that, after the period, the authorities of the countries would issue their own driver's licence.

He urged applicants to be determined to obtain the genuine driver's licence.

APC calls CBN Gov’s suspension illegal, warns Jonathan against destroying Nigeria

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said Thursday's suspension of Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by President Goodluck Jonathan is patently illegal, poorly thought-out and in bad taste, noting that it will definitely have negative consequences for the nation's economy.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party also said the action is the clearest indication yet that President Jonathan, whose body language does not abhor corruption, is willing to silence any whistle-blower, no matter his or her status.

*CBN Gov Lamido Sanusi

"As the country wallows in unprecedented corruption under the rudderless and corruption-hugging Jonathan Administration, the President may have finally decided to send a strong signal to all Nigerians that it will not tolerate any exposure of corruption under any circumstance.

What better way to do this than to
silence the man who has exposed the alleged missing 20 billion dollars in the NNPC accounts?" it queried.

APC said that Sanusi's suspension has also shown clearly that President Jonathan as a leader does not care if he destroys national I nstitutions on the altar of personal ego and political expediency.

"First it was the judiciary which came under his sledge hammer, when he suspended then President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, just to satisfy the hawks in his party.

Then it is the turn of the National Assembly, the Police and now the financial sector. President Jonathan should not destroy our institutions before he bows out of office next year. These institutions are older than him and will definitely outlive him," APC warned.

The party said while Section 11 (f) of the CBN Act 2007 empowers the President to remove the CBN Governor, the section is clear that he can only do so if he has the support of two-thirds majority of the Senate.

"Nowhere in the Act is it said that the President can suspend the CBN Governor, as he has done in another of his serial rape of the country's laws," it said, adding that the reasons given by the presidency for Sanusi's suspension are as puerile as they are unprecedented, and amount to calling the dog a bad name just to hang it.

The party said the questions that arise, based on those ridiculous reasons, are: "Why has it taken almost five years of Sanusi's tenure for the President to realize the irregularities of CBN under Sanusi?
Why is the President acting on questionable allegations against Sanusi at a time the CBN Governor has opened the can of worms in the NNPC? Why has a President, who has always treated glaring corruption allegations against his political appointees with so much levity, now so quick to move against a CBN Governor who has never been accused, let alone indicted of corruption?

APC expressed serious concerns at the implication of Sanusi's suspension for the nation's economy, especially on the value of the Naira; local and international investments; the stock market; inflation and the overall health of the economy.

"Coming at a time when the economy was already under pressure due to internal and external factors and is in need of significant investments in several sectors, such as power and manufacturing to maintain its economic growth rates, the uncertainty caused by the suspension will leave both local and international investors questioning the economic direction of the country and therefore their
investment approach to Nigeria.
"At best, new investments will be delayed until investors consider that economic and political stability has been restored, and at worst, which is more likely, both new and existing investors will pull back.

"The Nigerian Stock Exchange that was already witnessing a withdrawal of portfolio investors, due to the US tapering exercise, is likely to be exacerbated as more investors, local and international, exit the market, further putting downward pressure on the country's exchange rate at a time the CBN is already having difficulty defending the currency. In fact, the devaluation of the national currency looms.

"All these factors will also drive higher inflation rates with its attendant economic, social and political costs. No one can say for certain exactly how costly this action will be for the nation but there are no doubts it will be high," the party said.
It called on Nigerians to stay strong in their determination to fight the canker worm of corruption, even as the government of the day makes clear it will not hesitate to punish whistle-blowers and reward corrupt persons.

"If anyone in this country is still doubting that the Jonathan administration lacks the wherewithal to fight corruption, operate under the rule of law and take Nigeria to greater heights, that person should now clear the doubt. This administration has clearly reached the end of its tethers and should be voted out next year to pave the way for a party that is willing and able to rescue Nigeria," APC said.

Is this the reason why Mr. President suspended Sanusi Lamido Sanusi? "Why I exposed missing oil revenue" — Said by Sanusi Lamido Sanusi

On february 06, 2014 at 12:49am in headlines Sanusi Insists it will make public officers accountable adding this to his words "I'm not afraid to step on toes", he boasts CNPP, Gbajabiamila, other Reps react.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, yesterday, explained that he exposed the opaque management of oil revenue in the country so that it could lead to people being asked to explain what they had done with the money. He also said that he "loves controversy".

According to the CBN Governor, the controversy surrounding the missing oil revenue was also good for the country.

Sanusi spoke Tuesday night, while addressing the Standard Bank's West Africa Investors Conference.

His words:  "A lot of the noise that is happening in the country today around me and the oil sector is good for the country because at the end of the day, if it leads to improved governance of oil revenue; if it leads to increased transparency or people having to be called to explain what they have done with the money- that is good for the system.

"People must not see controversy and noise as necessarily bad. I love controversy. If you think there has to be change and if you think a system needs to be improved; and if you get too comfortable in a system, you should ask yourself what has happened to you. You need to step on a few toes, annoy a few people, have your own toes stepped on. You will be annoyed once in a while, of course they will slap you once in a while."

Sanusi however, assured the gathering of the commitment of the CBN to the stability of the exchange rate, saying the apex bank would continue to defend the Naira as long as there was stable crude oil prices.

"We have tried to build a stable environment and for us at the CBN, we have been very lucky to have had a very good partner in the finance ministry. If you look at government spending in 2013, it really wasn't much higher in 2012 and fiscal policy is not in itself loose on the basis of government spending.

"The real challenge is that there are things that we can do to block some of the revenue shortfalls that are causing the problem — oil theft and bunkering because we have good oil price; we have got the output and if you fix that, the issue of reserves; currency stability, fiscal deficit would simply disappear.

But government spending itself has not been the problem. It is largely because of the fiscal discipline in the last few years that our tight monetary policy has been able to work.

"We have been able to bring down inflation to single digit and it has been below 10 per cent since January 2012. It would remain below 10 per cent throughout 2014.

I know there is speculation about how much money will come into the economy during elections, but how much money is there anyway? It's $2.5 billion in the Excess Crude Account. So even if people want to spend money, the money won't be available. So the risk from that end is not as high as people might think.

"The greater risk is if we continue to have deterioration in the revenue profile and that can be addressed because it is really a factor within our control. So we have low inflation and the CBN has a stable exchange rate as the cornerstone of its price stability policy and that has been communicated very clearly to the market.

"We have always had our eyes on stability. We are willing to tighten money; we are willing to use reserves within reasonable limits to give you the investors, an anchor for your expectations.

"We don't want people to come to the market worrying about whether the Naira is going to be on a free fall. Now we do not guarantee that if oil prices fall, there will be no exchange rate movement. But so long as we have stable oil prices, stable output, stable macro conditions, we are committed to exchange rate stability and we will support the currency and that stability is what I think will continue in the future," he said.

Reactions trail allegation
Meanwhile, reactions have continued to trail the allegation by the CBN governor that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC,  has failed to remit $20 billion into the coffers of the Federal Government, in a public hearing at the Senate, Tuesday.

Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, in his reaction told Vanguard that it's a shame that such a huge amount could not be accounted for.

"It simply brings home the position our caucus took at the budget debate, yesterday, (Tuesday). The reason such colossal sums can disappear is because of the non-compliance with Section 21 of the Fiscal Responsibility Act and refusal of the Minister of Finance to submit the detailed estimates of agencies such as NNPC to the National Assembly as prescribed by law.

It is a crying shame and an indictment on the NASS that it has taken the Governor of CBN to discover what we should have, had we properly discharged our oversight functions by insisting on compliance with the Fiscal Responsibility Act," he said.

In the same vein, Rep Pally Iriase (APC, Edo State), said Nigerians should show concern on the issues of accountability in government agencies.

His words: "Nigerians should be concerned about the lack of accountability by NNPC and even other revenue agencies. The latest revelation vindicates the House of Representatives' insistence that the current budget must comply fully with the Fiscal Responsibility Act".

On his part, Rep Abiodun Faleke (PDP, Lagos) said CBN would be invited to give further explanations on the unremitted fund. "It is shocking. We will write him to request for the details for our investigation," he said.
Chairman, House committee on e-Parliament, Rep Razaq Bello-Osagie said: "This ugly development is unfortunate and a show of shame.

Nigeria is now a laughing stock in the comity of nations. This has vindicated our position at the National Assembly for insisting that the 2014 budget estimates forwarded to the National Assembly by the Executive must be accompanied by details of budget estimates of Agencies and corporations under the Federal Government."

Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, Ekiti State, called for vigilance so that the allegation is not swept under the carpet, noting that issues of public finance, transparency and accountability should be taken seriously.

Adetumbi who is the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Interior, said: "It is only when all unremitted funds are accounted for that Nigerians will be assured that they have not been short-changed.

The time has come for all Nigerians to show more interest and pay serious attention to issues of public finance, transparency and accountability. I have been watching with keen interest the ongoing investigations on the alleged unremitted $49.9bn funds, now reviewed downwards to $20bn by the CBN Governor from oil exports into the Federation Account.

Also reacting in a telephone interview with Vanguard, former Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, said: "No matter the figure Sanusi mentioned, it is obvious that money is missing. Whether it is $10 billion, $12 billion or $20 billion, it is obvious that money is missing and it should be investigated."

Senator Emma Anosike from Anambra State, however, flayed the CBN governor, accusing him of playing to the gallery. "I feel so disappointed in the sense that the Central Bank Governor should stop playing to the gallery.

The last time he spoke to this country, he came out, first of all made an allegation and the second time, he came and apologized that he had reconciled with them. This time around, he has said that $20 billion is missing. Who do we believe? How do we have confidence in this kind of person?"

Sanusi, however, found strong support from the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP saying the body entirely agreed with Sanusi. Mr. Okechukwu told Vanguard that, "one entirely agrees with the Governor of the CBN that money is missing from revenue accruing to Nigeria between January 2012 to July 2013; the only missing link is the exact amount, but the truth remains that some money was stolen.

ABUJA-MEMBERS of the House of Representatives have rejected the suspension of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Governor, Mr Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.

Also apparently embittered by what legislators perceived as selective implementation or non-compliance with its resolution against some public officers over corrupt practices, the House has mandated its committees on Justice, and Legislative Compliance to compile all resolutions that have indicted any public officer for which President Goodluck Jonathan refused to act, and request the president to act on them immediately.

The Presidency Thursday suspended the apex bank boss in a statement signed by the Media and Publicity Adviser to the president Dr Reuben Abalti.

The house resumed plenary at about 11.05am and the second legislative business of the day was a motion under matters of national importance titled: Suspension of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi sponsored by Rep Samson Osagie, PDP, Edo state.
The presiding officer, Aminu Tambuwal had immediately put it to voice vote and it was unanimously carried for debate.

Osagie had barely finished reading his motion when Rep Henry Ofongo,PDP, Bayelsa, raised a point of order challenging Osagie's motion.
But the Speaker had overruled his point of order saying Ofongo had to wait till Osagie had made his submission.

This did not go down well with PDP legislators who in turns tried to tear Osagie's motion apart.

In his argument, Rep Ralph Nnana Igbokwe, PDP, Imo had described the position as irrelevant bordering on the fact that "Mr President did the right thing by suspending Sanusi because the CBN was a government institution.

This development again led to a verbal war which dominated the House of Representatives plenary for almost 50mins with support and opposition to Sanusi's suspension torn along party lines.

The Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP legislators in support and All Progressive Congress ,APC, lawmakers outrightly rejecting Sanusi's suspension.

Osagie in his motion had observed that"the president on Thursday 20th of February announced through his special adviser Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben abalti the suspension of the CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi over the report made against him by the Financial Reporting Council and other investigative bodies.

According to Osagie, section 11(7) of the CBN Act, 2007 which gave the president powers to remove the Governor, subject to two-third majority approval of the Senate did not contemplate suspension, adding that it was also doubtful if Sanusi was given fair hearing in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.

His motion was however punctured by noise from Rep Henry Ofongo , who through a point of order faulted Osagie that he was bringing in issues from the CBN Act, which were not relevant to the matter he was debating. The lawmaker was however asked to wait and present his points during the debate of the motion by Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who was presiding over the plenary.
Anxieties subsequently set in, throwing the session into a momentary uproar when another lawmaker, Rep Ralph Nnanna Igbokwe also raised a point of order, drawing the attention of the House to the same section of the CBN Act earlier cited by Osagie which gave the President powers to appoint and remove the CBN Governor.

According to him, if CBN was a public institution, operating under the public service rules with Sanusi as a public officer heading the institution, he can be removed under such rules if found wanting in the discharge of his duties, urging the House "to resist every temptation not to act on the side of the law."

Tambuwal though ruled that Igbokwe was in order, but he explained that his assertions did not resolve the issue of suspension not being contemplated in the Act, as contended by Osagie, and subsequently yielded the floor for the Deputy Minority Leader, Rep Leo Ogor who had indicated to speak against the motion to do so.

But before Ogor, Nkoyo Toyo through another point of order on matters of privilege warned that Sanusi, no doubt was an important personality, and a great Nigerian whose case should not be reduced to politicking on the floor of the House, a position the Speaker told members to note as they debate the issue.

Ogor in his submission defended the suspension as a beginning of a process, and not an end in itself. "For you to remove somebody, there have to be a process, and the suspension is the beginning of that," the lawmaker stated amidst shouts of 'No! 'No!! No!!! from supporters of the motion.
When Tambuwal put question for voice votes on the motion, more members voted unanimously supported.

APC Reps reactions
The Minority Leader of Nigeria's House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, APC, Lagos has expressed dismay at the suspension of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as CBN Governor.

He said such action can be legally queried , "I am concerned about its legality. Whilst it can be argued that an employer has the right to suspend an employee, the question here is whether this is a suspension or a removal in the guise of suspension."
Gbajabiamila further described the suspension as an attack on CBN autonomy and setback for the fight on corruption.

"For good reason the CBN Governor world over is independent and autonomous. To remove him you need confirmation and buy-in of the Senate. You cannot do it through the back door. If you read carefully the reasons advanced by the Presidency then it becomes clear that this is a removal and not a suspension and therefore illegal and unconstitutional."

"It becomes more worrisome when you consider the timing and the fact that the CBN Governor has just blown the lid off a monumental scandal involving the disappearance of 20billion dollars from our coffers. The message being sent out is not the best . There can be no worse attack on the autonomy of the apex financial institution as envisaged by the constitution. For God's sake the man only has 3 months left!"

Alsi in a direct response to Sanusi's suspension, Rep . Pally Iriase (Edo/APC) in a chat with newsmen challenged President Jonathan to disclose allegations of "various acts of financial recklessness and misconduct," he gave as reason for Sanusi's suspension.

Iriase said the suspension which he described as "hasty" could dent foreign investor confidence in the country's economy.

"We have been talking about impunity. This (Sanusi's suspention) is yet another show of impunity by this administration. The suspension is personal and is not unconnected with the recent disclosure of missing money from the NNPC.

"It is a clear case of if you cannot shut him up, ship him out. It should be condemned in its totality." Iriase said.

The Edo born lawmaker debunked insinuation that Sanusi had been doing the bidding of the APC by "embarrassing the government" with disclosure of missing oil revenue.

"If the bidding of APC is to have a robust economy, a responsible government that is corruption free, then Nigerians should be happy. Sanusi's suspension is simply a case of the administration shooting itself on the foot." he stated.

Sanusi reacts to his suspension, says he will challenge it in court

In a recent interview with CNBC Africa this morning, Sansui Lamido Sanusi, who currently in Niger Republic attending an official ECOWAS event, says he will challenge his suspension.

Sanusi tells CNBC Africa
"I have been told by my office that a letter was received. As you know, I flew in this morning to Niamey along with other Governors of West African Central Banks to meet with the President of Niger and President of Ghana. Fortunately, I came in with my VP Sarah Alade whom I have been asked to hand over to. I have left the meeting to hand over to her. I have just met the Nigerian Ambassador to Niger who confirmed to me that the President asked him to inform me of the decision.

About financial misconduct and recklessness he's being accused of…

"I don't know what they are talking about. When I come back, I will see what those allegations are. I don't think there is any issue raised that has not been raised before. We all know what this is about. This is about consequences for decisions I have taken. This is something that is long overdue. I am surprised it took them so long.

When asked whether his suspension is politically motivated, he said

"I think the answer to that is obvious. There is a legal question of whether the president has the authority to suspend the Governor and whether suspension is not removal. It will be helpful to establish the principles by court.
Even if I challenge it, I will not go back to the job. Even if I challenge it successfully, I will not go back to it. I think it will be in the interest of the institution for the courts to establish once and for all if the president has the powers to do this. If it is not challenged, the next Central Bank Governor cannot be independent with fear of being suspended by a politician. I do plan to have the courts confirm if indeed that authority exists and I will challenge it.
