Real Madrid 3 Barcelona 4 match report: Messi hat-trick out-guns Ronaldo in seven-goal Clasico thriller

Lionel Messi, left, celebrates scoring the second of his three goals that helped Barcelona to a 4-3 victory over Cristiano Ronaldo's Real Madrid at the Bernabeu

Sunday 23 March 2014
There were 80,000 white flags held aloft at the Santiago Bernabeu last night as Real Madrid supporters greeted their team. What there was no sign of, in one of the greatest Clasico's in recent memory, was the white flag from Barcelona.

They came from behind twice to win a seven-goal thriller with a Lionel Messi hat-trick.

The win means they close the gap on Real Madrid to just one point and the three goals meant Messi passed two more major milestones.

He has now scored 21 goals in Clasico fixtures beating Alfredo Di Stefano's previous record of 18 and he has 235 goals in the league taking him past Hugo Sanchez as the competition's second highest all-time goalscorer.

Who knows how many Di Stefano would have scored in those lightweight rainbow coloured boots. What is clear is that Messi would have been a record breaker in any era. He has apparently been off form this season – he now has 20 goals in his last 18 games.

Madrid's intention was immediate as Cristiano Ronaldo attacked Dani Alves in their first move but their early attacking play was chaotic and they were leaving space behind that Barcelona soon took advantage of with Messi releasing Neymar, who shot straight at Diego Lopez.

Messi was drifting deep and not being picked up and when he played in Andres Iniesta, the Spain midfielder blasted Barcelona in front, grateful to have been allowed so much room by Madrid right back Dani Carvajal.
Sergio Busquets appears to tread on Pepe as Barcelona won despite Karim Benzema scoring twice
Messi could have doubled the lead when sent clear by Cesc Fabregas but Madrid were beginning to impose themselves and Karim Benzema should have equalized but somehow blazed Angel Di Maria's cross over. There would be more gifts from the Argentine and he would not be so wasteful again.
Benzema has not always been the Bernabeu's favourite but Ronaldo urged the crowd to get behind the Frenchman and not on his back and the patience was rewarded.

Di Maria carved Barcelona open down the Madrid left and Benzema headed past Victor Valdes, who got a hand to the ball but in his last ever Clasico failed to keep it out.

Di Maria crossed again from the left moments later and when his centre sailed over Javier Mascherano's head Benzema controlled it and volleyed it home. The trick was nearly repeated for a third time but this time Pique cleared off the line after Di Maria's cross was again sent goalwards by Benzema.

Madrid were on top but Messi made sure they did not go down the tunnel at half-time on top. With brute force and close control in equal measure he cleared a path through Madrid's defence swapping passes with Neymar before shooting past Lopez. It was his 19th goal in a Clasico – no one, not even Alfredo Di Stefano who scored 18 goals in his 35 Barcelona-Madrid matches, has ever scored as many.

Fabregas than clashed with Pepe, who in the subsequent mêlée was pushed into the Barcelona midfielder.

Both players were booked but this was proving to be one of the best Clasicos in recent years and no battle of the Bernabeu.

A storming run from Gareth Bale undid Barcelona at the restart but he looked on in disbelief as Benzema failed to score from his assist. It mattered less moments later as Ronaldo went over Alves' outstretched leg and the referee pointed to the spot. The man himself got to his feet and sent it past Valdes to put Real Madrid back in front at 3-2.

Valdes then blocked Bale's shot as Madrid looked to finish off Barcelona.
But again Barcelona and Messi were not finished and the Argentine threaded the ball though to Neymar inside the penalty area. The Brazilian got the slightest touch from Ramos and spun to the ground. The referee pointed to the spot and gave Ramos the 19th red card of his career. Messi dispatched the penalty – goal No 20 in Clasicos and the strike that took him past Sanchez as the all-time second leading goal-scorer in the history of the Spanish League.

There was still time for Alves's shot to bounce back off Lopez as Barcleona appeared to run out of options but Xabi Alonso tripped Iniesta in the penalty area and Messi, fittingly, had the last word.

Goals. Real Madrid: Benzema 20, 24, Ronaldo pen 55

Barcelona: Iniesta 7, Messi 42, pen 65, pen 84

Pope Francis warns Mafia - repent over 'bloodstained money' or 'end up in hell'

Pontiff delivered his most forceful denunciation of organised crime yet

Pope Francis has delivered his most damning denunciation of organised crime yet, warning Mafia mobsters to repent or prepare for Hell.

Pope Francis has delivered his most damning denunciation of organised crime yet, warning Mafia mobsters to repent or end up in hell.

The pontiff's stern caution came after a prayer vigil at a Roman Catholic church for relatives of innocents killed by the Mafia, during which the names of 842 victims were read aloud as a sombre Francis looked on.

After voicing his solidarity with the family members, he said he could not leave the service without addressing the "protagonists" of Mafia violence.
Addressing these absentee mafiosi, Francis was unrelenting: "This life that you live now won't give you pleasure. It won't give you joy or happiness," he said.

Pope Francis - the first year: From white smoke to selfies, a look back at 12 months in pictures.

"Blood-stained money, blood-stained power, you can't bring it with you to your next life. Repent. There's still time to not end up in hell, which is what awaits you if you continue on this path."

His comments came after the death of three-year-old Domenico Petruzzelli this week, who was brutally murdered along with his mother and her companion during a mob hit in southern Taranto in which assailants opened fire on their car.

Domenico's two older brothers, sitting in the backseat, escaped unharmed.
In January this year the remains of another toddler, Nicola Campolongo, were found in a burnt-out car in the neighbouring region of Calabria, along with his grandfather and another man.
Francis highlighted the attack in his remarks, ending his exhortation to mobsters with a reminder.

"You had a father, a mother. Think of them," he said. "Weep a little. And convert yourselves."

Malaysia flight MH370: China spots 'suspicious' objects

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott says satellite images are giving increasing hope of discovering what happened to the jet.

A Chinese plane hunting for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane has spotted "suspicious" objects, state media say, as more nations joined the search.

Searchers saw two "relatively big" objects with "many white smaller ones scattered within a radius of several kilometres", Xinhua news agency said.

Australia said it had been informed and would try to locate the objects.

Flight MH370 disappeared on 8 March while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, with 239 people on board.

Ten planes were due to scour the southern Indian Ocean area on Monday for possible debris picked up earlier by radar echoes and satellite imagery.

Two Chinese military planes flew out to the search area, around 2,500 km (1,550 miles) south-west of Australian city Perth, on Monday morning, while two Japanese P-3 Orion aircraft were to set off later in the day.

They joined six other planes, including US and Australian military planes, in searching a 68,500 sq km (26,000 sq miles) area in the ocean.

An Australian navy ship is already in the area, while several Chinese ships are also on their way.

Bad weather

The latest objects were spotted by the crew of a Chinese IL-76 plane. The crew had informed the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (Amsa) of the co-ordinates, Xinhua said, as well is its ice-breaker, which was heading to the area.

"Amsa was advised about the reported objects sighted by a Chinese aircraft," it said in a statement. "The reported objects are within today's search area and attempts will be made to relocate them."

Earlier on Monday, Amsa - which is co-ordinating search efforts - warned that conditions in the search area were expected to deteriorate.

Jennifer Pak reports from Kuala Lumpur on a cycling show of support for families and friends of those on board the missing plane
Warren Truss, Australia's acting prime minister while Tony Abbott is abroad, said that a tropical cyclone north of the search area could "stir up less favourable weather" for the search.

The search for flight MH370 has been in two large corridors - one stretching to the north-west of the last known location in the Malacca Straits and one to the south-west.

However, none of the countries on the northern corridor have reported any radar contact, and the Australian and Chinese satellite images of possible debris in the south Indian Ocean have concentrated the search there.

On Sunday, French officials said radar echoes from a satellite also identified possible debris in the south Indian Ocean.

The objects identified by the French satellite were "about 850 km north of our current search area", Mr Truss told Australian broadcaster ABC.

"That's not in the area that had been identified as the most likely place where the aircraft may have entered the sea. But having said all that we've got to check out all the options."

On Monday, the US Pacific Command said it was moving a black box locator to the region "as a precautionary measure in case a debris field is located".

The equipment, which has a "highly sensitive listening capability", detects pings from the black box while being towed behind a ship.

The move did not indicate that debris had been found, the US added, but would enable search officers to "respond as quickly as possible" if debris is seen, "since the battery life of the black box's pinger is limited".

NHS fraud and error 'costing the UK £7bn a year'

A study says the biggest areas of fraud are in payroll and procurement budgets
Fraud is costing the NHS £5bn a year, with a further £2bn lost to errors, the former head of its anti-fraud section says.

The amount lost to fraud alone could pay for nearly 250,000 new nurses, a report seen by Panorama suggests.

The NHS must "get on with tackling the problem", said Jim Gee, co-author of the Portsmouth University study and ex-director of NHS Counter Fraud Services.

The Department of Health said it "did not recognise" the figures.

The amount estimated by Mr Gee, who led the NHS anti-fraud section for eight years, is 20 times that recorded in the government's annual fraud indicator report.

"We need to not be embarrassed, or in denial, about the possibility of fraud taking place in the NHS," said Mr Gee.

"We need to get on with tackling the problem, minimising its cost, maximising resources available for proper patient care."

The report, by the University of Portsmouth and accountancy firm BDO, is due to be published on Tuesday.

It found that the biggest areas of fraud are in payroll and procurement budgets.

For example a consultant doing private work on NHS time or procurement wise; an optician charging for glasses which the patient never received or needed.

'Absolute sense'

The £2bn cost of errors relate to when the NHS makes overpayments by mistake to suppliers or staff.

Former dentist Joyce Trail is the most prolific single fraudster in NHS history
Although the NHS has a budget of about £100bn, it is having to make significant savings and should prioritise fighting fraud, said Mr Gee.

"I think fraud is one of the last great unreduced healthcare costs. And to me, putting money into it makes absolute sense," he said.

"It's one of the least painful ways of cutting costs. It makes absolute sense to cut the cost of fraud before you cut the quality, or extent of patient services."

Mr Gee left the NHS's Counter Fraud Service in 2006 and has spoken out now because of the publication of the report.

He reached the £7bn figure by basing his research upon loss measurement exercises looking at the total cost of fraud.

Mr Gee says it is the most rigorous data that's available about healthcare fraud in the world.

He believes his figure is so much higher than the government's because their annual fraud indicator report only relates to pharmaceutical and dental services, and does not include losses taking place in payroll and procurement expenditure, for example

The Department of Health declined to be interviewed but in a statement said "it did not recognise" the figure or "speculate on levels of losses".

Panorama also found that NHS Protect, the national body that investigates fraud in England for the Department of Health, has had its budget cut by around 30% since 2006.

The operating budget for NHS Protect in 2013-14 is £11.38m, the equivalent budget in 2006-07 was £16.29 million.

NHS Protect has replaced NHS Counter Fraud Services in England.

A Freedom of Information request by the BBC shows that NHS Protect employs 27 counter-fraud specialists, with a further 294 investigators working at a local level.

By contrast, the Department for Work and Pensions employs six times the number of investigators - but if Mr Gee's figures are accurate, they face less than half the amount of fraud.

The Department of Health said NHS Protect had a "significant budget" and "protects and safeguards frontline NHS services".

NHS anti-fraud teams investigate cases ranging from hundreds to millions of pounds.

Among their cases was that of dentist Joyce Trail, from Birmingham, who was one of the most prolific fraudsters in NHS history.

Trail charged the NHS for work she had never actually carried out.

She visited care homes offering to check residents' teeth and then used their personal details to claim payment from the NHS.

Trail even claimed payment for the false teeth for patients who had died.

She was jailed in 2012 for £1.4m worth of fraud.

Other fraudsters investigators have prosecuted include NHS employees selling stolen products on eBay and dentists charging the NHS for gold crowns while fitting patients with cheaper ones.

One investigator, Barry Hards, said the lack of money for investigators means that now is a good time to be a fraudster in the NHS.

"How can you have confidence that there's a likelihood you'll be found out, when there's very few people looking at you?" he said.

"I think it's a genuinely held concern that some people in senior positions have just taken their eye off the ball on this."

Russian troops 'overrun Crimea's Feodosia naval base'

Russian troops had blocked access to the Feodosia base for some time before they attacked.

Russian troops have seized control of a Crimean naval base at Feodosia, the third such attack in 48 hours, Ukrainian officials have told the BBC.

Defence spokesman Vladislav Seleznyov said the Russians attacked the base from two directions using automatic weapons and stun grenades.

He said they rounded up the Ukrainians and tied the hands of their officers.

Russia has taken over most of Ukraine's military bases in Crimea, tightening its grip on the peninsula.

A soldier at the Feodosia base told Reuters news agency that shots had been fired and confirmed that the base had been taken over.

Feodosia was one of the last remaining bases under Kiev's control, but had been surrounded by Russian forces for some time, says the BBC's Mark Lowen in Crimea's capital Simferopol.

Overnight on Friday two other military bases were stormed and seized.

The Interfax news agency earlier reported that Russian flags were hoisted at 189 Ukrainian military units and facilities in Crimea.

In other developments:

Nato's military commander in Europe warned on Sunday that Russian forces on Ukraine's eastern borders were capable of mounting an operation all the way to Moldova.

Several parts of Crimea were hit by power cuts on Sunday evening, which officials blamed on technical problems

Murray eases past Lopez in Miami

Defending champion Andy Murray swept past Spain's Feliciano Lopez in straight sets to reach the fourth round of the Sony Open in Miami.

The Briton had won all eight of their previous meetings and, with his now former coach Ivan Lendl watching from the stands, he made it nine in a row.
Murray beat Lopez, the 32nd seed, 6-4 6-1 in 73 minutes to set up a last-16 tie with 11th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
Roger Federer progressed with a 6-3 6-3 win over Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker.

Murray impressed under the watchful eye of Lendl, who only four days after their split was announced made the three-hour trip from his Florida home to watch the player he guided to Olympic, US Open and Wimbledon victories.

"We're back together again. It was only a four or five-day split," Murray joked afterwards. "No, it's a shame he won't be watching many more of my matches from the stands."

It is a big week for Murray, who has 1,000 ranking points to defend as the reigning champion, and he also had support from his father William, British Davis Cup coach Leon Smith and girlfriend Kim Sears among those watching from his player box.

The Scot, 26, has struggled for form in recent weeks and made a number of slow starts, but he flew out of the blocks on Sunday with a terrific break of serve to love.

Any thoughts that he was right back to his best were put on hold when Murray was then immediately broken, but his return game certainly looked in good shape as he moved ahead once again with a break at 2-2.

Lopez made just 39% of his first serves in the opening set and Murray took advantage, drawing the Spaniard into baseline exchanges that he was always going to be favourite to win.

A solid service game closed out the first set and a third break at the start of the second put him in complete control of the contest, with Lopez cutting an increasingly disconsolate figure on a hot afternoon in Miami.

When Lopez, 32, started leaking errors from his favoured forehand side to drop serve again, the end was within sight, and Murray wrapped up an encouraging performance with a return winner on match point.

"It's not always that easy to feel comfortable against him because there is not loads of rhythm with the way he plays, but I moved well, returned well," said Murray.

"I don't know how hot it was, but when we came over at like 9:30pm it was already 80 Fahrenheit (23 Celsius) and it was extremely humid.

"I've played a few matches here where it's been very, very hot, but it doesn't always stay like this for a few days in a row in March. They are not easy conditions."

In the women's event, Australian Open champion and second seed Li Na beat American Madison Keys 7-6 (7-3) 6-3, while Venus Williams beat Australian Casey Dellacqua 6-4 5-7 6-4.

Nato warns of Russian army build-up on Ukraine border

Ukrainian troops are stationed on the border with Russia, in smaller numbers
Nato's military commander in Europe has issued a warning about the build-up of Russian forces on Ukraine's border.

Supreme Allied Commander Europe Gen Philip Breedlove said Nato was in particular concerned about the threat to Moldova's Trans-Dniester region.

Russia said its forces east of Ukraine complied with international agreements.

The build-up has been allied with Russia's annexation of Crimea from Ukraine, following the removal of Ukraine's pro-Moscow president.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Deshchytsia warned that the risk of war with Russia was growing.

"The problem with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin is that he doesn't want to talk to - not only to the Ukrainian government - but also to the Western leaders," Mr Deshchytsia told the BBC.

The Russian Ambassador to the EU, Vladimir Chizhov, has said that Russia does not have any "expansionist views."
"And this is quite a danger for the decision-making process. We could only expect that he might invade."

Meanwhile, US Deputy National Security Adviser Tony Blinken said Washington was reviewing every request Ukraine was making for help.

"When it comes to military assistance, we're looking at it," he told CNN.

But he added: "The facts are these: even if assistance were to go to Ukraine, that is very unlikely to change Russia's calculus or prevent any invasion."

President Barack Obama earlier ruled out sending US troops to Ukraine.

Moscow formally annexed Crimea after the predominantly ethnic-Russian region held a referendum which backed joining Russia.

Kiev and the West have condemned the vote as "illegal".

A war memorial in Tiraspol, Trans-Dniester. Nato fears Russian troops could move there quickly
Russian flags have now been hoisted at 189 Ukrainian military units and facilities in Crimea, the Interfax news agency reports.

Moscow's ambassador to the EU told the BBC the "reunification" had not been pre-planned but was the end of an "abnormality" which had lasted for 60 years.

Vladimir Chizhov also said said Moscow did not have any "expansionist views" and that "nobody should fear Russia".

But he warned the US against sending troops or military aid to Ukraine, saying it would be a "grave mistake".

Also on Sunday, Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council chief Andriy Parubiy told a big rally in Kiev: "The aim of [President Vladimir] Putin is not Crimea, but all of Ukraine... His troops massed at the border are ready to attack at any moment."

'Adversary'

The comments by Gen Breedlove came at an event held by the German Marshall Fund think-tank in Brussels.

He said: "The [Russian] force that is at the Ukrainian border now to the east is very, very sizeable and very, very ready."

He added: "There is absolutely sufficient force postured on the eastern border of Ukraine to run to Trans-Dniester if the decision was made to do that and that is very worrisome.

"Russia is acting much more like an adversary than a partner."

Trans-Dniester is a narrow strip of land between the Dniester river and Ukraine's south-western border and it proclaimed independence from Moldova in 1990.

The international community has not recognised its self-declared statehood.

As Crimea was annexed, the Trans-Dniester Supreme Soviet sent a request asking to join the Russian Federation.

Meanwhile, Russia's Deputy Defence Minister Anatoly Antonov told the Itar-Tass agency: "The Russian Defence Ministry is in compliance with all international agreements limiting the number of troops in the border areas with Ukraine."

Bases stormed

Correspondents say Russian forces appear to be stepping up their efforts to secure full military control of all of Crimea.

The BBC's Ian Pannell, in Belbek, says the few remaining Ukrainian troops on the peninsula feel beleaguered and abandoned by their commanders.

He saw Russian troops use stun grenades and automatic weapons in a raid on the Belbek airbase, near Sevastopol, on Saturday.

The BBC's Mark Lowen also witnessed the takeover of the Novofedorivka base in western Crimea by Russian troops.

A big unity rally is being staged in Ukraine's capital Kiev

Pro-Russian men beat an unknown man during the takeover of the Belbek airbase on Saturday

Ukrainian soldiers in Belbek were given an ultimatum to leave the base on Saturday.
Russian soldiers and pro-Russian protesters stormed the base and forced Ukrainian troops to leave.

Russia annexed Crimea following a referendum on 16 March, which came after the overthrow of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych in February.

The Kremlin said it had acted to protect its "compatriots" in Crimea from "fascists" moving in from the mainland Ukraine.

The US and EU have responded with a series of sanctions targeting those individuals - including senior officials - involved in Crimea's annexation.

Turkey downs Syria military jet 'in airspace violation'

Turkish forces have shot down a Syrian military jet they say was violating their airspace despite warnings.

Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned such action by Syria merited a "heavy response".

But Syria accused Turkey of "blatant aggression", saying the plane had been over Syrian territory at the time.

The incident reportedly occurred in an area where Syrian rebels and government forces have been fighting for control of a border crossing.

Turkey and Syria - once allies - share more than 500 miles (800km) of border.

Turkey has broadly sided with the rebels in Syria's war since October 2011.

Turkish forces launched artillery strikes on Syrian targets in late 2012 after the Syrians shot down a Turkish jet.

However, the BBC's James Reynolds in Istanbul says neither side is interested in a direct, sustained conflict.

'Ignored warnings'

Speaking at a rally of supporters, Mr Erdogan congratulated the air force on its actions on Sunday.

"A Syrian plane violated our airspace. Our F-16s took off and hit this plane. Why? because if you violate my airspace, our slap after this will be hard," he said.

A Syrian military source, quoted by state television, said Turkish air defences had shot down a Syrian jet as it attacked rebels on Syrian territory - an act of "blatant aggression".

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights - a UK-based activist group - said initial reports from the area suggested the plane came down on the Syrian side of the border.

"Turkish air defences targeted a Syrian fighter-bomber as it struck areas of the northern province of Latakia. The plane caught fire and crashed in Syrian territory," the Observatory said.

According to one report, the plane's pilot was able to eject.

In a media statement on the incident, the Turkish General Staff said two Syrian military jets were involved, and that they had been "warned four times that they were approaching Turkish airspace".

One of the Syrian MiGs turned back, it said.

"But the second Syrian jet entered Turkish airspace in the Camli Hill Border Outpost area in Yayladag, Hatay at 1313 (local time) in spite of the warnings. It then turned westwards and continued flying in our airspace for a distance of 1.5km," the statement said.

"At this point one of two Turkish F-16s flying Combat Air Patrol in the region fired a missile at the Syrian jet in accordance with the rules of engagement at 1314. Hit, the Syrian jet fell in the vicinity of Kesab on Syrian soil 1,200m south of the border."

Revised rules

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan congratulated his country's air force
In September last year, Turkey said it had shot down a Syrian helicopter close to its border. Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said the aircraft was engaged by fighter jets after violating Turkish air space.

A Turkish fighter jet was shot down by Syria over the Mediterranean in June 2012, after Syrian forces said it had entered its airspace.

Hundreds of thousands of people have fled Syria for Turkey to escape the three-year uprising against President Assad.

More than 100,000 people have been killed since the Syrian conflict began.

According to UN figures, 6.5 million Syrians have been displaced by the civil war, and 2.5 million are registered as refugees. Lebanon has taken the highest number of refugees, followed by Jordan and Turkey.

Malaysia flight MH370: New data 'shows possible debris'

The search teams look away from the ocean only occasionally to rest their eyes, as Jonathan Head reports
New data from a French satellite shows potential debris from Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 in the southern Indian Ocean, France's foreign ministry says.

Radar echoes had picked up several objects about 2,300km (1,430 miles) from Perth, a statement added.

It is the third possible sighting in the area off western Australia that has become the focus of the search effort.

Flight MH370 disappeared on 8 March while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, with 239 people on board.

Malaysian officials believe the plane was deliberately taken off course.

Based on information received from a satellite, the search has been in two distinct corridors - one stretching to the north-west of the last known location in the Malacca Straits and one to the south-west.

However, none of the countries on the northern corridor have reported any radar contact, and the satellite images of possible debris in the south Indian Ocean have concentrated the search there.

'No sightings'

On Sunday, a statement published on the Malaysian ministry of transport's Facebook page said: "This morning, Malaysia received new satellite images from the French authorities showing potential objects in the vicinity of the southern corridor.

"Malaysia immediately relayed these images to the Australian rescue co-ordination centre."

An unnamed Malaysian official told the Associated Press that the new satellite image was taken on Friday, and that one of the potential objects was estimated to be about the same size as one spotted by a Chinese satellite that appeared to be 22m (72ft) by 13m (43ft).

The possible debris was located about 930km (575 miles) north of where the objects reported by China and Australia over the past week, the official added.

A French foreign ministry statement said the objects were about 2,300km from Perth, but did not give a direction or say when the discovery was made.

It also clarified that the French authorities had passed on data in the form of "satellite-generated radar echoes" rather than images. Radar works by sending out radio waves or microwaves and listening for echoes that bounce back.

"France has decided to mobilise complementary satellite means to continue the search in the identified zone," the ministry statement added.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (Amsa) subsequently announced that that the search operation in the southern Indian Ocean had concluded for the day.

HMAS Success, under Capt Allison Norris, is the only ship so far in the search zone

Japanese P-3C Orion aircraft arrived at RAAF Base Pearce on Sunday to assist in the search

The anxious wait continues for relatives in Beijing

Origami cranes, containing prayers and messages for those on flight MH370, in Bangsar, Malaysia
"There were no sightings of significance," a statement said. "The search area experienced early sea fog particularly in the western areas, however conditions improved during the day."

Amsa said the four military and four civilian aircraft involved in Sunday's search effort had covered a total of 59,000 sq km (22, 780 sq miles) south-west of Perth. Chinese military Ilyushin IL-76 aircraft and Japanese P-3C Orion aircraft would join the search on Monday, it added.

HMAS Success, an Australian navy supply ship, also took part in Sunday's operation.

A key focus on Sunday was the sighting on Saturday of a wooden cargo pallet, along with belts or straps.

Mike Barton, operations co-ordinator at Amsa, said: "Part of the description was a wooden pallet and a number of other items which were nondescript around it and some belts of some different colours around it as well, strapping belts of different lengths."

He added: "We tried to re-find that yesterday, one of the New Zealand aircraft, and unfortunately they didn't find it. That's the nature of it - you only have to be off by a few hundred metres in a fast-travelling aircraft."

Pallets are used for shipping as well as plane cargo and Mr Barton urged caution, saying the sighting "could be anything".

'I miss my son'

Earlier, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said the sightings of objects were encouraging signs.

Tony Abbott: "There is increasing hope that we might be on the road to discovering what did happen to this ill-fated aircraft"
"Obviously we have now had a number of very credible leads and there is increasing hope - no more than hope, no more than hope - that we might be on the road to discovering what did happen to this ill-fated aircraft," he said.

Dbanj greatest Fan "Dami' Adenuga" who customize his cloth written "DbanjKokoPikin"

It is a wonderful pleasure meeting with one of the greatest "Dbanj Fan's who customize his cute red cloth "DbanjKokoPikin".

"Dami Adenuga is 500Level student of "LAUTECH" Who study "Agricultural Economics And Extension" in department of Agricultural Economics And Extension.

In an interview with him, Dami Adenuga makes us know why he did all he has to do with the customizing designers on his cloth.

INTERVIEW:

* Tell us was your personalities?

Hmmmm, I'm a very humble person, I can be playful but am serious when we talk business! I don't joke with it.

* Who is your favourite Artist and Which song do u like listening to most?

"Dbanj" is my favourite artist, I love his songs and lifestyle. There's no Dbanj song that I don't have on my phone Since 2004.

* What inspired you to customize your cloth with "DbanjkokoPikin"?

If you check my "Display Name" on BBM, twitter and Facebook, it has always been "D'banj KokoPikin"
I love "Dbanj" so much, not even all about the music but his personality is involved too. The vibes of entertaining is extremely unique. Oh I love D'banj #noHOMO.

* Is this the only cloth you have the name written on?

No, I can't even count all the clothes I customize the name on, since I carry that name I have many clothes customized with the name "DbanjKokoPikin".

* So tell us have you ever had the changes to meet Dbanj one on one?

Yes, I've been to his house sometimes last year and I had a meeting with him and one of his PAs lamba last week saturday in Lagos With 3 team members as well The passion I have for this man called Banga made me taught of this that there are many fans out there in home and diapora, that wish to celebrate dbanj.... So I tot of ways this can be actualize and we creating channels where dbanj himself can give back to the community.... And I came up with the name THE KOKOKNIGHTS for the fans to bear and rep.

* What bring about this whole of The KOKONIGHTS stuff?

The name and idea of the KOKOKNIGHTS came through suggestion by Dami Adenuga (D'banj KokoPikin, @Sir_Rozlah) on June 14th, 2013, with the supportive ideas of other Die-Hard Fans of the KokoMaster. Hence, this innovation is aimed at creating an opportunity to gather all the fans of the KOKOMASTER, D'banj both at home and Diaspora with one voice of action.

Moreover, with the help of the official
TeamDbanj, the Kokoknights have taken pride in being a part of a die-hard fan base recognized by their dol and bridging the gap between the Kokomaster and his knights (the fans) is the motive. And, apart from being a small army size, the KOKONIGHTS will ferociously represent the good image portrayed by D'banj, they will defend every word and action on all his social platforms; they will be the first to know about glitz and glamour of the world famous BangaLee, and they will also respond to rumours stating up-to-date facts from BangaLee himself and his official body.

As a UN Ambassador, the Kokoknights will channel platforms where BangaLee can give back to the society via various humanitarian projects and public supports. EJANLA himself in time soon to come will however launch this name (KOKOKNIGHTS) as his official and certified name for all his fans across the globe following a Knights rendezvous in Lagos to celebrate the Africa's Pop-King Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo popularly known as D'banj on stage, an international icon and trends this across the globe.

To make sense of the monikers, we have created an official Twitter and Facebook page for the passionate Fans of BangaLee, where the fans interact, show love, and also an avenue for the fans to be updated with recent information on the brand, D'banj, his team, and every nooks and crannies of EJANLA.

Any fan of dbanj who should join this convoy should follow our twitter account below.

* Wow this is amazing, so tell us what are your advice to the people out there who are also willing to do the same act you have done. But not bold to do what you have just done?

They should swallow the fear and brace up themselves with courage full of loyalty and with a selfless act.

* Finally what do you have to say about your creative manners?

Hmmmm* nothing really, just wanna Acknowledge God for taking me this far and more steps ahead. LawLee ( a good brother from different mother) his hands are always at my back! Also JeiJeiLee @AskTheLambaKing he took me as a brother to the Lee family. And also I can't go without acknowledging my KokoDaddy BANGALEE he's just so humble, a good role model, and a determine-minded person! God bless DbanjKokoPikin, DbanjKokoHoldings, DbanjRecords, DbanjKokoKnights, DbanjKokoFam et DbanjKokoMaster

A third penalty! And they've all been disputed. Andres Iniesta squeezes between Dani Carvajal and Xabi Alonso and is brought down in a team effort. A bit soft though.

Teenage girl was shot in the neck

Hackney shooting: Teenager was shot in the neck

The shooting is not thought to have happened at Shereka Fab-Ann Marsh's home.

A 15-year-old girl who died at a house in east London was shot in the neck, post-mortem tests have revealed.

Police were called to a terraced house in Eastway, Hackney Wick, shortly before 16:00 GMT on Saturday.

Shereka Fab-Ann Marsh, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three boys - two aged 16 and one 15 - are being held in custody.

Police said a firearm was recovered from the house. The street remains closed while inquiries continue.

Hazel Nelson Williams, from the Nelson Williams Foundation which helps young people and their families affected by shootings, said the incident was shocking.

"I have spent most of the night racking my brain as to how this could happen, how a 15-year-old can be shot by another youth playing with a gun," she told the BBC.

"Who put the gun in their hand?

"As a mother-of-five how the mothers of these young people must be feeling right now - it's implausible.

Hazel Nelson Williams said more must be done to help educate young people on the dangers of guns
"Where is this stash of weapons coming from that it's so easy for under-18s to get hold of guns? We have to find this out."

Chainelle Jennings, a friend of Shereka, said: "She liked PE. Her favourite subject was history. She was good at sports. She wanted to study business."

The teenager added: "She lived with her mum. Her dad was in Jamaica. They just had each other, just them two and they lived together. She cherished her mum."

Shad Brown, who knew Shereka and knows those arrested, said: "It's a tragic situation for both sides of the coin. And that's what should be noted, it really is. Nice girl, just a local girl. This is a local community."

She added: "We spend 20 years of our life protecting our children and hoping this doesn't happen to them."

The three boys arrested on Saturday afternoon remained in custody at an east London police station.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona
Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo calls for a penalty after Dani Alves touches him in the box. The one downside of Clasico games is nonsense like this.

Never a spot-kick.

Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona
And moments later at the other end Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema drags a shot wide of Victor Valdes's post. It's an open start.

20:05
Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona
Barcelona forward Neymar has the first shot at goal but it's straight at Diego Lopez down low from Lionel Messi's ball. It came from a swift counter-attack after Cristiano Ronaldo wanted a free-kick at the other end.

20:03
Real Madrid 0-0 Barcelona
No real pattern to the game after two minutes, both sides have had a share of the ball. I don't think either side will want to go for it too soon - so much to lose tonight.

Where do you think Real Madrid v Barcelona ranks with the biggest rivalries in world sport, not just football?

Or is Olympiakos v Panathinaikos more your cup of tea? Or India v Pakistan in cricket? Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL?

Let us know using Twitter (#bbceurofooty), on text (81111, but that's UK only) or using the BBC Sport Facebook page. (external)
18:40
For me this is one of the main three football uber-rivalries, along with Celtic v Rangers and River Plate v Boca Juniors. Games that descend football, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse.

18:38

Atletico Madrid beat Real Betis 2-0 today to go top of the table by virtue of their head-to-head record with Real Madrid.

So if Barca win this evening, Atletico are top with nine games to go, level on points with Real Madrid, with Barcelona one point behind the pair.

Atletico's final game? Away to Barcelona.
18:35
Real Madrid are four points ahead of Barcelona in the table with 10 games to go. So a victory for Carlo Ancelotti's side today would effectively end Barca's title hopes as Real do not have any hugely difficult games left to play.

A draw would still make it very, very difficult for Barcelona, but a Catalan victory closes that gap to one point.

But there was a very important twist today that I should mention...
18:32

To be honest, there are a handful of fixtures each year that don't need any hyping up. This is one of them.

It's Real Madrid v Barcelona.
18:31
Unlike some live text commentary introductions, which just feel forced.
18:30
Cats v Dogs.

Batman v The Joker.

Nas v Jay Z.

Some rivalries just come naturally.

Obesere to turn his rape scandal into a movie

Lol, the things you hear. Fuji star, Abass Akande aka Obesere has written a script centred around the rape scandal he was recently involved in and is presently shopping for actors who will interpret the role effectively.
Confirming this, his publicist Deola Adeoti said;

"The movie is targeted at unraveling the mystery behind the rape scandal. A whole lot of things have been said about him in the past few weeks, but I think this movie will tell the world the plain truth. Apart from his own experience, Obesere is aware of some men who had been blackmailed with this same scandal and he felt that it was high time he exposed some of these women of evil."

Super Eagles will surprise the world in Brazil

Victor Nwaribeaku is the Chief Executive Officer of VCN Sports International Limited.

In this interview with IFEANYI EDUZOR he speaks about the chances of the Super Eagles at the forthcoming world cup in Brazil and plans by his company to make Nigerians have a feel of the world cup.

Excerpts Super Eagles will be participating in the forthcoming Brazil 2014 world cup; what are your expectations at the Mundial? I have no doubt in my mind that the Super Eagles will do very well in the greatest football tournament in the world come June this year.

When you look at the team, you will discover that Coach Stephen Keshi is doing a very good work in the team. And right now, people are beginning to be proud of the Super Eagles. When you cast your mind back to the last Nations Cup, you will remember that nobody gave the team chance to get to the finals but they surprised all to lift the trophy.

Having said this, I believe they will give a good account of themselves in Brazil and surpass the expectations of Nigerians in that tournament. Are you not afraid that Nigeria is in the same Group with Argentina? It beats my imagination when people continue to exercise fears over Argentina and in doing this they fail to realize that Argentines themselves are also afraid of Nigeria because they know we have quality players that can cause heartache to any team at any time.

I want Nigerians to remember that the South Americans has never found it easy beating Nigeria in competitive football; they have always struggled to defeat us even when the dreaded Maradona was a part of their team.

I believe that with the job Keshi has done on the team, the Super Eagles will be ready for any opposition when hostilities begin in Brazil in June.

People should also know that football is not mathematics because anybody God says will carry the day will definitely win. Do you have any player in the Super Eagles who you think will be exceptional at the World Cup? Most of the players are good and I believe that they are going to make their mark in Brazil. Although they are not as good as my idols, Austin Jay Jay Okocha and Kanu Nwankwo but the transformation Coach Stephen Keshi is doing on the team will bring out the best in them and I look forward to the team being better than the Super Eagles of 1994. Can you tell us what motivated you going into sports equipment business?

What really motivated me venturing into sports wears business was the love I have for sports right from my youth.

When I was in school, I participated actively in sports especially football and at a stage, I became the Captain of my school team. When I left school, I worked as an apprentice under the Chief Executive Officer of S.O and Brothers Sports Limited in the person of Chief.S.O. Okoli and after serving him for eight years, he opened a shop for me and from there by the Grace of God, the business has been growing which necessitated me opening an ultra modern shop recently at the National Stadium, Surulere Lagos which is equipped with the latest state of the arts sports materials where one can come in and buy quality materials from Europe at affordable prize. You just opened an ultra modern sports shop at the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos what makes it different from others? You are quite aware that a lot of Nigerians are now engaging in one sporting activity or the other to enable them keep fit and burn out calories.

People have come to realize that without sports they cannot live a healthy life but with sports, you will be agile and healthy and might not even need to see a Doctor and this was what made me think of expanding the shop to accommodate all types of sporting materials and I want to assure Nigerians that in this year of World Cup, we are out to serve them better to ensure that the Super Eagles perform well at the Mundial.

You know that Nigerians like quality products and that accounted for our getting all our goods from Europe. And from next year we intend to move to Abuja and from there to Port Harcourt, Enugu and Owerri to serve our customers better.

And I want my customers to believe in VCN Sports and be assured that they are getting good products at affordable prices with guarantee. What is your take on the issue of Nigerians supporting foreign clubs instead of their local teams? It is quite unfortunate that Nigerians does not believe in our local league .But for me, the team I support is Enyimba because they are my pioneer customers.

All there kits were supplied to them by my company and personally, I will continue to support the team. The team needs the support of all especially when one considers that they were the first Nigerian club to win the CAF Champions League. Although the team is not doing well now but I believe they will soon come out of their problem.

Assemblies of God's Church suspends General Superintendent over alleged fraud

The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Church, Rev. Paul Emeka, has been suspended from the church over allegations of misconduct, high handedness and financial misappropriation in the administration of the church, National Mirror reports.

Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, Imo State, the acting General Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Chidi Okoroafor, disclosed that the decision to suspend the former GS was taken at the just concluded meeting of the General Committee held on Thursday March 6, 2014, in the Conference Hall of the National Secretariat, Enugu, after the committee had deliberated on the implications of his action on the image of the church worldwide.

But ever since the authorities took the decision to suspend the GS, tension had continued to mount in the church as members were divided over the suspension.

While some members on the side of the suspended General Superintendent felt that the authorities were highhanded in their action, others particularly the church authorities maintained that the church had degenerated to its lowest ebb since the administration of the suspended leader. In a letter dated March 6, 2014 titled "Re: Rev. Prof. Paul Emeka, former General Superintendent, Assemblies of God, Nigeria" and signed by Rev. Dr. John Ikoni, Rev. Dr. Chidi Okoroafor and Rev. Dr. Vincent Alaje; the General Secretary, Acting General Superintendent and General Treasurer respectively, they maintained that their decision to suspend the former GS was hinged on the constitution which the GS acted against by dragging the church to court without first bringing his grievances to both the General Committee and the Executive committee members.

The church also accused the former General Superintendent of being autocratic, and involved in financial mismanagement; abuse of power and "above all took the church to court which tantamount to tarnishing the image of the church and bringing it to public ridicule."

While calling on members of the church to stop relating with Rev. Paul Emeka as GS of the church, the committee maintained that he had " ceased to function in any of the duties assigned to the Office of the General Superintendent in the Constitution and Bye- Laws of the General Council of Assemblies of God, Nigeria, with effect from Thursday March 6, 2014."

The committee warned: " Should any administrative unit(s) or minister(s) or member(s) of Assemblies of God, Nigeria, relate with the former General Superintendent in any way that is contrary to the established practice for all such cases in Assemblies of God, Nigeria, such administrative unit(s) or minister(s) or member(s) would be doing so to their own detriment, and would attract commensurate disciplinary measure by the Executive Committee or the General Officers of Assemblies of God, Nigeria."

In a swift reaction, the suspended General Superintendent, however, said that those allegations were targeted at discrediting him, adding that those who are championing the suspension issue are doing so because of their selfish and parochial interests. "Some leaders at the top of the hierarchy of the Assemblies of God who are championing this to achieve their political and leadership ambition may be happy now that they are serving their purpose, but they will be shamed," the embattled cleric said.

Actor Majid Michel gives newly married Paul Okoye marriage advice

If the screenshot is not clear enough, continue to see what he wrote...

Ok i hope my advices work. i love being married.

It's so great to find one special person you want to annoy for the rest of your life. For two people in a marriage to live together day after day is unquestionably the one miracle the Vatican has overlooked.

One advantage of marriage is that, when you fall out of love with him or he falls out of love with you, it keeps you together until you fall in again.

A good marriage would be between a blind wife and a deaf husband.

A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.

There is so little difference between husbands you might as well keep the first. Before marriage, a man will lie awake all night thinking about something you said; after marriage, he'll fall asleep before you finish saying it.

My wife and I have the secret to making a marriage last. Two times a week, we go to a nice restaurant, a little wine, good food….. She goes Tuesdays, I go Fridays. Just kidn**lol.

To avoid mistakes and regrets, always consult your wife before engaging in a flirtation.

The man who says his wife can't take a joke, forgets that she took him.

Whenever you're wrong admit it; Whenever you're right shut up.

The secret of a happy marriage remains a secret. We have the greatest prenuptial agreement in the world. It's called love.
