Facebook will soon let you share your exact location with Nearby Friends

Facebook is introducing Nearby Friends, a new feature that will send notifications to your friends whenever you're nearby them. Before you protest and complain about the violation of your privacy, be informed that you would have to turn on this feature yourself before your location gets sent out to the social network.

"Nearby Friends is an optional feature. You can choose who can see if you're nearby (for example: your friends, close friends or a specific friends list) and you can turn it on and off at anytime," the Facebook said in a press release.

The feature mimics existing services like Foursquare. Before it could kick in, both you and your friend(s) would have to turn on Nearby Friends and share your locations with each other. The service also allows you to share your exact location to a friend for a specified length of time. Let's say you want to share your location with a friend for only 10 minutes. During that time, your exact location would show up on a map so you can be found more easily. At the end of the 10 minutes, the service cuts itself off automatically, giving you back your stealthy existence.

If you want to track your friends while they're traveling, Facebook has made that possible, too. Let's say your friend's walking along a street in Paris that you've already been to, you can send them unsolicited recommendations for restaurants and bars. No word yet on how annoying that can be.

There's no solid release date yet for the feature, but Facebook says that Nearby Friends will be available on Android and iPhone in the U.S. over the coming weeks.

Bale winner sees Real lift Copa del Rey

Gareth Bale's stunning individual goal five minutes from time won the Copa del Rey final for Real Madrid as they beat arch-rivals Barcelona 2-1 in Valencia.

The Wales forward outsprinted Barca defender Marc Bartra from the halfway line before coolly converting past keeper Jose Manuel Pinto.

Real took an early lead when Angel Di Maria fired into the bottom corner.
Barca levelled through Bartra's second-half header but it was Real celebrating after Bale's winner.
Former Tottenham star Bale had been accused of not delivering in Madrid's big matches since arriving at the Bernabeu in a world record £85m switch last summer.

But, without the injured Cristiano Ronaldo alongside him, the 24-year-old took centre stage with a moment of inspiration which swung a delicately-balanced final in favour of Carlo Ancelotti's side at a crucial stage.
With Barcelona pressing for a winner, Real countered quickly with pace - a tactic which they had employed throughout - to snatch the first silverware of the Spanish season.
Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, a largely anonymous figure, lost possession in the Madrid penalty area before Fabio Coentrao launched the attack with a long ball down the left touchline towards Bale.

Bale knocked the ball into the empty Barcelona half and, despite Bartra's best efforts to lever him off the ball, managed to keep his feet before squeezing past Pinto at his near post.

It was a bitter blow for Barcelona, who had showed character and resilience to fight their way back into the tie.
The Catalans dominated possession throughout but failed to test the recalled Iker Casillas, who has been Diego Lopez's understudy in La Liga but a starter in the Copa del Rey, with regularity or substance.

It has been a familiar pattern in coach Tata Martino's first season at the Nou Camp, leading to criticism of the Argentine's methods and doubts over his long-term future.

Martino was tactically outwitted by Real counterpart Ancelotti - for the first time this season after Barca won at both the Nou Camp and Bernabeu - as the Italian's players carried out his instructions to the letter. Madrid were organised and committed as they defended resolutely in numbers before utilising the pace of Bale and Di Maria on the break.

The Argentina international latched on to Karim Benzema's pass before shooting across Pinto, only playing because of Victor Valdes's continuing absence through injury, for the 11th-minute opener.

Barca dictated the play after Real's goal, without managing to stretch Casillas, and continued to patiently probe for an opening after the break.
Despite barely meriting an equaliser, they were level when Bartra was left unmarked to powerfully head Xavi's 68th-minute corner into the top corner.
After Bale put Madrid back in front, Barcelona almost recovered for a second time in the dying stages.

Neymar poked a shot past Casillas, only to see his effort cannon back off the Real post into the grateful hands of the Spain international.

The Catalans have endured a miserable season by their own high standards, with a series of off-the-field troubles compounding their below-par performances on the pitch.

The club's reputation has taken a battering over the past few months following the tax scandal surrounding last summer's £50m signing of Brazil star Neymar and a Fifa transfer ban for breaking rules on signing teenage players last month.

On top of that, the prospect of a rare trophyless season is now a strong possibility.

The reigning Spanish champions are third in La Liga, four points adrift of leaders Atletico and one behind Real, with five games remaining and were eliminated from the Champions League by Atletico last week.

By contrast, Bale's late goal allowed Real to take the first step towards a potential treble - as they are also pushing to win La Liga and the Champions League, in which they face Bayern Munich in the last four.

Firetruck rams California eatery; 15 injured

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (AP) — Two firetrucks heading to a burning home collided Wednesday in a Los Angeles suburb, sending one careening into a restaurant and injuring 15 people, including six firefighters.

One man, who isn't a firefighter, was hospitalized in critical condition, officials said.

The crash on a busy commercial strip in Monterey Park left one truck embedded in the restaurant, with shattered glass and rubble heaped on the sidewalk. Chairs and tables were scattered inside.

"There was a loud boom and a lot of shaking. I thought it was an earthquake," said Wendy Wu, a waitress at Lu Dumpling House. She was in a walk-in freezer when the truck plowed through the front of the restaurant.

When she walked out of the freezer, uninjured, she saw a refrigerator pushed across the room and furniture in disarray. Wearing a uniform with the restaurant logo and speaking through an interpreter, Wu said she saw several injured people bleeding and attempting to stand.

Waitress Vivian Lu arrived for her shift moments after the truck rammed the building. She said she saw "a lot of people covered with blood," including a pedestrian with a mangled leg who had been knocked into the restaurant.

Trucks from Monterey Park and neighboring Alhambra, with lights and sirens activated, were responding to a house fire shortly after 3 p.m. when they slammed into each other, authorities said.

The Monterey Park truck plowed halfway into the restaurant.

A Monterey Park firefighter received moderate injuries while two other city firefighters and three from Alhambra had minor injuries, fire officials said.

Rosa Saca, a spokeswoman for Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, said nine victims were brought there, including five firefighters. The critically injured person was among the hospital's patients but is not one of the firefighters, she said.

Erik Jiang, a spokesman for Garfield Medical Center in Monterey Park, said six victims from the crash were treated at the hospital. None was in critical condition, he added.

An investigation was underway to determine what caused the crash.

Ukraine: 3 killed after Black Sea base attack

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Three pro-Russian militants died and 13 were wounded when Ukrainian troops repelled an attack on a National Guard base in the Black Sea port of Mariupol, Ukraine's interior ministry said Thursday.

A crowd of around 300 men armed with stun grenades and Molotov cocktails attacked the base, in the south-east part of the country late Wednesday, the interior ministry said in a statement. Servicemen inside fired warning shots but the attackers did not stop the assault and the army had to respond, it said.

There were no casualties among the Ukrainian servicemen, the ministry said, and 63 attackers were detained.

Speaking at the parliament Thursday morning, acting President Oleksandr Turchynov said the pro-Russian gang attacked the military base with automatic weapons.

The skirmishes come after the Ukrainian government announced an operation to retake control of Slovyansk and other cities in the restive east.

A well-armed, Russia-backed insurgency has sowed chaos in eastern Ukraine in the past weeks and on Wednesday insurgents seized armored vehicles and weapons from underequipped Ukrainian government forces. Militants have taken control of police stations and administrative buildings in at least 10 towns in the region, including Mariupol near the Russian border.

With tens of thousands of Russian troops deployed along the border with Ukraine, there are fears the Kremlin might use the instability in the predominantly Russian-speaking region as a pretext for seizing more territory beyond its annexation of Crimea last month.

The latest unrest came as diplomats from Ukraine, the U.S., the European Union and Russia prepared to meet Thursday for the first time over the burgeoning crisis that threatens to roil the new government in Kiev. With Ukraine struggling to contain the pro-Russian uprising, the Obama administration has said it is readying additional sanctions against Moscow and a boost in aid for the Ukrainian military in the coming days.

Police say Utah mom gave birth at home before killing infants

SALT LAKE CITY (Reuters) - A Utah mother accused of slaying six of her own infant children over the course of a decade secretly gave birth to each of the babies without medical assistance at home and then immediately killed them, police said on Wednesday.

Megan Huntsman, 39, was ordered held in lieu of $6 million bail on Monday on suspicion of murdering six newborn babies whose tiny bodies were found rolled up in shirts, towels and plastic bags and stashed inside separate cardboard boxes in the garage of her former home.

Police in the Salt Lake City suburb of Pleasant Grove, Utah, say Huntsman has admitted under questioning that she strangled or suffocated the six babies just after they were born in a rare case of serial infanticide that ran from 1996 to 2006.

The body of a seventh infant born during the same period and disposed of the same way also was found in the garage, but police say they believe that child was stillborn.

Police disclosed new findings in the case as medical examiners continued autopsies on the remains and DNA tests aimed at confirming such details as the manner and cause of the infants' deaths, their parentage and their genders.

Following extensive interviews with neighbors and family members, including Huntsman's three older children - all daughters, now aged 20, 18 and 14 - investigators say the mother somehow managed to keep nearly a decade of consecutive pregnancies a secret.

"We have not found anybody who has ever suspected that she was pregnant," Pleasant Grove police Captain Mike Roberts said.

"All seven were born in the home," Roberts said. "We have no proof of any medical anything during any of the seven pregnancies. Nothing."

PUZZLE OF SURVIVING CHILD

Adding to the puzzle is the fact that at least one of Huntsman's surviving daughters, the 14-year-old, was born in the middle of the period during which the mother is suspected of killing six of her babies.

Huntsman was arrested on Sunday after her estranged husband, Darren Brad West, found the body of one infant tucked into a cabinet while cleaning out the garage at the home and called police, authorities have said. Investigators then discovered the six other remains.

He is believed to be the father of all seven, though neither West nor the three surviving daughters - also presumed to be his children - are suspects "at this point," Roberts said.

West, 41, who was released from federal prison earlier this year after serving time for a drug conviction and now resides in a halfway house in Utah, had been preparing to move back into the Pleasant Grove house, which is owned by his parents.

Huntsman left the house in 2011 to move in with her boyfriend in another Salt Lake City suburb, according to police.

Her three surviving daughters remained in the Pleasant Grove home, sharing the house with West's sister and her husband, who reside in a basement apartment there, police said.

Roberts said all of the deceased babies, though their remains were badly decomposed, appeared to have been carried to full term. He said autopsies might be completed on Wednesday but declined to say when results would be released.

Roberts also said he was aware of reports that Huntsman recently suffered a miscarriage, a development he said was still under investigation.

Pleasant Grove neighbors report seeing fluctuations in Huntsman's weight over the years, but say they never suspected she was pregnant. Similarly, Roberts said Huntsman's two adult daughters told police they were unaware of the pregnancies their mother concealed.

Police say they do not believe mental illness was a factor in the killings. Based on interviews with Huntsman, investigators say they have a motive but have yet to reveal it.

"I've heard speculation that she was in a cult," Roberts said, "but that's all coming from the neighbors. Unfortunately, we can't release the motive at this point."

Roberts said he expects formal charges in the case to be filed by prosecutors by next Monday, when an arraignment has been scheduled for Huntsman.

Here are all the passwords you need to change right now because of Heartbleed

By now, we all know what a huge deal Heartbleed is. The massive vulnerability in OpenSSL protocol impacted 66% of all sites on the Internet at the time of its discovery, and now companies are scrambling to fix the issue. Most big companies seem to have done a pretty good job of acting quickly, but this bug is several years old so users have been at risk for quite some time regardless of how quickly a site might have patched the flaw. As such, the cybersecurity experts at LWG Consulting have compiled a great list of all the huge sites that were impacted by Heartbleed.

Do you have accounts on any of the sites listed below? Change your password immediately — and be sure to change your passwords on any other sites if you use the same password there.

Those looking to protect themselves from websites still impacted by the Heartbleed bug should install this browser plugin immediately. It will warn users each time they visit a website that has not yet updated OpenSSL to protect users from Heartbleed.

Support for New Energy Vehicles in China to Go on

BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. explores new energy cars for the Chinese market. [File Photo: Yangcheng Evening News]

Anchor: China will extend its subsidy programme for buyers of new energy vehicles beyond 2015, although it will reduce its subsidies in 2014 and 2015.

What effect will the new subsidy policies for this year have on the green auto industry, as well as the consumer market? CRI's Xu Fei has more.

Reporter: The Ministry of Finance recently announced that China will continue to offer subsidies for new
energy vehicles after the existing policy expires at the end of 2015.

Meanwhile, the subsidies will be cut by 5 percent in 2014 and 10 percent in 2015.

Luo Lei, deputy secretary-general of the China Automobile Dealers Association, told CRI that the gradual reduction of the subsidies will be conducive to the industrialization of "green" cars in China.

"I think the subsidy cuts stipulated in the policy will play a key role in stimulating and guiding the consumer market. As the market becomes activated, the guiding role of the policy should gradually fade out."

Xu Weihan, the CFO of "evbuy.com", an electrical car dealer based in Shanghai, asserts that the drop in subsidies hasn't hindered sales and will not deter
green auto dealers.

"The reduction in the subsidies from the government should not result in a corresponding rise in the prices of the green vehicles being offered for sale.

According to our data for their reported prices, a large number of manufacturers have actually lowered their prices following the subsidy cut."
Additionally, under the amended policy, the subsidies will no longer be given by local governments to dealers according to where the car is sold. Instead, new energy vehicle makers will receive subsidies directly from the central budget. According to Luo Lei, this adjustment to the subsidy program should serve to greatly encourage producers of alternative energy
vehicles.

"When the local governments served as the go-between for the central government and automobile manufacturers in granting subsidies, there were often long delays in the issuance of subsidies, which hindered the enthusiasm of green auto enterprises. If the subsidies are directly given by the central
government, the process will be simplified, and this should serve to excite green auto producers" China produced a total of 17,533 new energy vehicles in 2013, an increase of 39.7 percent from the previous year.

Data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers in January showed that China sold
17,642 new energy vehicles last year including domestic and imported vehicles, up 37.9 percent from 2012.

The majority of sales of new energy vehicles were in the passenger vehicle category last year; private car buyers are being deterred from purchasing new energy cars due to the lack of support facilities, such as charging stations and parking lots, currently in
place.

Luo Lei believes that the auto industry should regard the promotion of new energy passenger vehicles as its duty.

"Promoting the use of alternative energy vehicles in the public transportation sector, such as through
operating environmentally friendly buses, would offer an exemplary public service."

First look: 2015 Ford Mustang ’50 Year’ Limited Edition

The Ford Mustang has been around for fifty years; that's longer than people have been on the moon. Heck, it's nearly as long as people have been in space. And for this important birthday Ford has decided to celebrate with a special edition … well if they insist.

Based on the already special all-new 2015 Mustang, Ford will be building just 1,964 of the limited "50 year" edition. But I am sure, by now, you are champing at the bit to know what is actually included in special edition. For starters, it is loaded down with styling cues from the original. The car will only be available in Wimbeldon White, the same color as the very first Mustang sold, and Kona Blue. Both classic, and both available only on the limited edition.

Ford Releases special '50 Year'

Otherwise, the outside gets some neat touches, like discrete chrome mascara around the headlights, wing mirrors and tail lamps. You also get some callouts to the 1965 fastback like louvered rear windows, and the handsome – if fake – rear bumper gas cap.

On the inside its mostly badges, specifically "50 Year" badges on the instrument panel and dash. You do get, special two tone cashmere and leather seats, not to mention cashmere stitching and suede binding that will be unique to these 1,964 cars though.

Unfortunately, the car doesn't feature any special performance upgrades. Underneath the car will, in essence be the 5.0-liter 420 plus horsepower GT version. It may not be unique, but it should be more than enough to haul those badges around.

The limited edition will go on sale this fall. But, if you want one, you should get in touch with Ford now, because they are likely to go quickly.

Ultimately, special editions like this may be a bit silly. But fifty years of the Mustang is a hugely important marker for the automotive world. This car has captured more hearts than just about any other performance car, partly because of its amazing looks and unquestioned cool. So it's only fitting that Ford decided to celebrate in style.

Texas executes man convicted of 2001 triple murder

Texas executed by lethal injection on Wednesday a man who was convicted of stabbing his girlfriend, her child and her mother to death after a cocaine binge in 2001.

Jose Luis Villegas Jr., 39, was pronounced dead at 7:04 p.m. CDT (8.04 p.m. ET) after receiving a lethal dose of drugs at the Texas death chamber in Huntsville, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said.

"I have peace in my heart and (I'm) ready for the next journey," he said in a statement written before his execution.

Villegas was the seventh person executed in Texas this year and the 17th in the United States, according to the Death Penalty Information Center, which tracks executions.

The U.S. Supreme Court denied a last-minute appeal to halt the execution by Villegas' lawyers, who argued that he was developmentally disabled and should not be executed.

According to court documents, intelligence testing conducted for his defense in February, after his execution date was set, indicated that Villegas had mental retardation. The state argued in part he had strong incentive to perform poorly on the test.

Villegas confessed that the day of the killings he had consumed about $200 worth of cocaine with his 24-year-old girlfriend, Erida Perez Salazar, at the home she shared with her parents, according to court documents.

After her mother, Alma Perez, 51, ordered Villegas to leave the house, he stabbed her dozens of times with a kitchen knife and then proceeded to a bedroom where he stabbed his girlfriend and her son Jacob, 3, numerous times each, according to court records.

Villegas then left the house and drove off in Salazar's vehicle and sold a television he stole from the home to buy more cocaine, according to court documents.

He had planned to return to the house to kill himself with an overdose of cocaine, but tried to flee when he saw police were already there, according to court documents. He was caught by police after a high-speed chase and foot pursuit.

Texas has executed 515 people, more than a third of all executions in the United States since the Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976, according to the Death Penalty Information Center.

Deadly clashes at Ukraine port base as leaders meet

Ukrainian attack helicopters buzzed villagers in Kramatorsk, but the army eventually had to give up, as Daniel Sandford reports.

Three people were killed in a raid on a base in eastern Ukraine overnight, the country's interior minister says, as the US, Russia, the EU and Ukraine begin crisis talks in Geneva.

The three pro-Russian separatists were killed in a clash with Ukrainian forces in Mariupol, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said on Facebook.

The Geneva meeting is the first such gathering since the crisis escalated.

The West says Russia is aiding the pro-Russian activists occupying buildings.

Tensions escalated last month when Russia annexed Crimea, causing international outrage. Unrest later spread to Donetsk region, another mainly Russian-speaking area. It is Europe's worst crisis since the Cold War.

About 300 separatists attacked a military unit in Mariupol near the Azov Sea, throwing petrol bombs. Troops opened fire, killing three, Mr Avakov said.

Reinforcements

The operation is continuing - Ukraine has sent in reinforcements including helicopters. There was no independent confirmation of his statement.

According to Mr Avakov, 13 of the attackers were wounded and so far 63 have been detained. He said none of the interior ministry troops had been killed.

It is the heaviest casualty toll in any single incident so far in eastern Ukraine.

A man wounded in the clash in Mariupol is given first aid

Mariupol is in the far south of Donetsk region, where separatists have seized dozens of official buildings.

Ukrainian SBU special forces have gone to the aid of the interior ministry troops in Mariupol and armoured vehicles have gone into the city from places nearby, Ukraine's Unian news agency reports.

Retreating separatists reportedly wounded two passers-by, set a minibus ablaze and also set fire to a building next to the military garrison.

"Through joint efforts by the armed police and national guard the attacking gang was dispersed after a short battle, most of them were cornered and disarmed," Mr Avakov said.

"Because it was such an aggressive attack on a military unit - an interior ministry group - we decided to reinforce them with Omega special forces. Helicopters have been deployed."

According to a report on Russia's state-run Vesti TV news, unarmed local protesters tried to talk to the Ukrainian troops but were met with gunfire. Quoting unnamed Mariupol residents, the TV channel said shots were also fired at first-aid paramedics.

Some locals say Ukrainian Right Sector ultra-nationalists have joined Kiev's forces in Mariupol, while separatists have erected street barricades, the TV reports.

Ukraine will be a key issue when Russian President Vladimir Putin speaks in a live phone-in programme, due to be televised from 12:00 (08:00 GMT). He will answer questions from citizens across the country - including for the first time Crimea.

Russia's annexation of Crimea has fuelled concern that other parts of eastern Ukraine could also break away from Kiev's control and join Russia.

US accuses Russia

US President Barack Obama has warned Russia against support for further action by armed pro-Russian groups.

"What I have said consistently is that each time Russia takes these kinds of steps that are designed to destabilise Ukraine and violate their sovereignty, that there are going to be consequences," he said.

Reports say that the White House is considering a package of non-lethal aid for the Ukrainian military. This may include clothing and medical supplies.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's military operation against separatists has hit obstacles.

Called an "anti-terrorist" operation by the Kiev government, it started on Tuesday and is designed to dislodge pro-Russia gunmen from local authority buildings in a swathe of cities and towns in eastern Ukraine.

Pro-Russian activists want referendums on greater autonomy for the south-east or the right to join the Russian Federation.

But in several districts, Ukrainian troops met vehement opposition on Wednesday from pro-Russia supporters, who object to the new government in Kiev.

In the city of Kramatorsk, six military vehicles were commandeered on Wednesday by gunmen, who disarmed the Ukrainian soldiers and sent some of them home on buses.

Daniel Sandford in Sloviansk: "This Ukrainian armoured vehicle has been rebranded with a Russian flag"
One Ukrainian officer said he had not "come to fight" and would never obey orders to shoot his "own people".

In another incident, several hundred residents of Pchyolkino, south of Sloviansk, surrounded a column of 14 Ukrainian military vehicles.

After the crowd was reinforced by pro-Russian gunmen, negotiations ensued and the troops were allowed to drive their vehicles away, but only after agreeing to surrender the magazines from their assault rifles.

The foreign ministers of the US, EU, Ukraine and Russia will begin talks shortly in Geneva.

The US and the EU want an end to the occupations in eastern Ukraine and for the estimated 40,000-strong Russian forces massed near the Ukrainian border to pull back.

John Kerry arrives in Geneva where it will be difficult to bridge the gap with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov
A US official, speaking as Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Geneva, stressed that Russia must "take this opportunity to de-escalate" or face a tightening of sanctions.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andriy Deshchytsya, called on Russia "not to support terrorist activities in eastern Ukraine."

As if to further illustrate the gulf between the West and Russia over the crisis, Russia's foreign ministry accused Washington of "the persistent unwillingness or inability to see reality as it is in fact, and in a striving to impose on the rest of the world a distorted perception of what is happening in southeast Ukraine."

Russia, which strongly opposed the ousting of Ukraine's pro-Moscow President Viktor Yanukovych in February, has proposed a new constitution which devolves more power to the regions.

Expectations for the talks are low, says the BBC's Gavin Hewitt in Geneva.

Nato

Russia's stance over eastern Ukraine and its annexation of Crimea continue to cause concern in Nato member countries with large Russian-speaking minorities, such as Latvia and Estonia.

So Nato announced on Wednesday that it was beefing up its eastern members' defences.

In Brussels, Nato Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen promised "more planes in the air, more ships on the water, more readiness on the land".

Fears rise for missing in SKorea ferry sinking

MOKPO, South Korea (AP) — Strong currents, rain and bad visibility hampered an increasingly anxious search Thursday for 287 passengers, many thought to be high school students, still missing more than a day after their ferry flipped onto its side and sank in cold waters off the southern coast of South Korea.

Nine people, including five students and two teachers, were confirmed dead, but many expect a sharp jump in that number because of the long period of time the missing have now spent either trapped in the ferry or in the cold seawater.

There were 475 people aboard, including 325 students on a school trip to a tourist island, and some of the frantic, angry parents gathered at Danwon High School in Ansan, which is near Seoul. Other relatives assembled on Jindo, an island near where the ferry slipped beneath the surface until only the blue-tipped, forward edge of the keel was visible.

Relatives of the dead students wailed and sobbed as ambulances at a hospital in Mokpo, a city close to the accident site, took the bodies to Ansan. The families, who spent a mostly sleepless night at the hospital, followed the ambulances in their own cars. At the school, some desperate relatives lashed out in frustration, screaming threats at the news media. On Jindo, one woman passed out and was carried to an ambulance.

The family of one of the dead, 24-year-old teacher Choi Hye-jung, spoke about a young woman who loved to boast of how her students would come to her office and give her hugs.

"She was very active and wanted to be a good leader," her father, Choi Jae-kyu, 53, said at Mokpo Jung-Ang Hospital while waiting for the arrival of his daughter's body. Choi's mother, sitting on a bench at the hospital, sobbed quietly with her head bent down on her knee.

Meanwhile, more than 400 rescuers searched nearby waters. Coast guard spokesman Kim Jae-in said that in the next two days, three vessels with cranes onboard would arrive to help with the rescue and salvage the ship. Divers worked round the clock in shifts in an attempt to get inside the vessel, he said. But the current wouldn't allow them to enter.

Kim said that divers planned to pump oxygen into the ship to help any survivors, but first they had to get inside the ferry.

The water temperature in the area was about 12 degrees Celsius (54 Fahrenheit), cold enough to cause signs of hypothermia after about 90 minutes of exposure, according to an emergency official who spoke on condition of anonymity because department rules did not allow talking to the media. Officials said the ocean was 37 meters (121 feet) deep in the area.

Kim said coast guard officials were questioning the captain, but declined to provide details or speculate on the cause of sinking. Kim denied earlier reports by Yonhap news agency that the ferry had turned too swiftly when it was supposed to make a slow turn. He also declined to say whether the ferry had wandered from its usual route.

"I am really sorry and deeply ashamed," a man identified by broadcaster YTN and Yonhap news agency as the captain, 60-year-old Lee Joon-seok, said in brief comments shown on TV, his face hidden beneath a gray hoodie. "I don't know what to say."

Coast guard officers, experts on marine science and other specialists planned to gather Thursday in Mokpo to start discussions on how the ship sank.

The coast guard said it found two more bodies in the sea Thursday morning, pushing the death toll to nine. The dead include a female crew member in her 20s, five high school students and two teachers. Dozens were injured. Coast guard officials put the number of survivors early Thursday at 179.

The Sewol, a 146-meter (480-foot) vessel that can reportedly hold more than 900 people, set sail Tuesday from Incheon, in northwestern South Korea, on an overnight, 14-hour journey to the tourist island of Jeju.

The ferry was three hours from its destination when it sent a distress call after it began listing to one side, according to the Ministry of Security and Public Administration.

Passenger Koo Bon-hee, 36, told The Associated Press that many people were trapped inside by windows that were too hard to break.

"The rescue wasn't done well. We were wearing life jackets. We had time," Koo, who was on a business trip to Jeju with a co-worker, said from a hospital bed in Mokpo where he was treated for minor injuries. "If people had jumped into the water ... they could have been rescued. But we were told not to go out."

Oh Yong-seok, a 58-year-old crew member who escaped with about a dozen others, including the captain, told AP that rescue efforts were hampered by the ferry's severe tilt. "We couldn't even move one step. The slope was too big," Oh said.

The Sewol's wreckage is in waters a little north of Byeongpung Island, which is not far from the mainland and about 470 kilometers (290 miles) from Seoul.

The last major ferry disaster in South Korea was in 1993, when 292 people were killed.

The survivors — wet, stunned and many without shoes — were brought to Jindo, where medical teams wrapped them in pink blankets and checked for injuries before taking them to a cavernous gymnasium.

As the search dragged on, families of the missing gathered at a nearby dock, some crying and holding each other.

Angry shouts could be heard when Prime Minister Chung Hong-won visited a shelter where relatives of the missing passengers waited for news. Some yelled that the government should have sent more divers to search the wreckage.

One dead, three injured in blast at Tennessee ammunition plant

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Reuters) - One person has died and three others were injured on Wednesday after an explosion at an ammunition plant in central Tennessee that touched off small brush fires nearby, authorities said.

The explosion happened Wednesday afternoon at the Rio Ammunition plant in McEwen, Tennessee, about 56 miles west of Nashville, said Odell Poyner, Humphreys County director of emergency management.

All four people were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville with blast injuries, two by helicopter, hospital spokesman Craig Boerner said.

One man died at the medical center and a second man was listed in critical condition, Boerner said. Two other patients, a man and a woman, were listed as stable, he said.

Poyner said there were 10 or 12 workers in the building at the time of the explosion and all were now accounted for.

The fire in the building was smoldering, but appeared to be out and crews were continuing to pour water on it, Poyner said. Crews also appeared close to getting brush fires ignited by the blast under control, he said.

Experts say video doesn't show Earhart wreckage

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Experts retained by an aircraft preservation group say underwater video shot in the South Pacific yields no evidence of the wreckage of the missing plane piloted by aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart.

Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic in 1932. She was trying to become the first female to circle the globe when she and her navigator disappeared somewhere in the South Pacific in 1937.

The mystery of what happened to Earhart and the twin-engine Lockheed Electra she was piloting holds a continuing fascination for The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR) of Pennsylvania and its executive director, Richard E. Gillespie.

They've staged repeated expeditions to search the waters around the Kiribati atoll of Nikumaroro, about 1,800 miles south of Hawaii.

Wyoming resident Timothy Mellon, son of the late philanthropist Paul Mellon, filed a federal lawsuit against the TIGHAR group and Gillespie last year. Mellon claims they had found the wreckage of Earhart's plane in 2010 but kept the discovery a secret so it could solicit money from him to continue the search.

Mellon, a resident of Riverside, says he gave the group more than $1 million in 2012 to help pay for another South Pacific search.

U.S. District Judge Scott Skavdahl of Casper last year dismissed Mellon's allegations of racketeering and negligence. Skavdahl has set trial for August on Mellon's remaining claims of fraud and misrepresentation.

At a court hearing last year, lawyer John Masterson representing the defendants told Skavdahl that Mellon's allegations amounted to a "factual impossibility."

Masterson said it was absurd for Mellon to argue the group had found Earhart's plane and kept the search going to fleece donors. An actual discovery could spawn movies, books and other lucrative ventures that would raise far more money than continuing the search, he said.

Expert witnesses for Mellon filed statements in court earlier this year in which they superimposed drawings of objects such as the landing gear of a Lockheed Electra over shapes on the sea floor.

"The objects we have identified in the 2010 video footage are consistent with parts of the Earhart Lockheed Electra Model 10 and, in the absence of an alternative explanation for the source of those objects, we conclude that they are likely to have originated from Earhart's Electra," wrote Rhode Island engineer John D. Jarrell, one of the experts who reviewed the video for Mellon.

Expert witnesses for Gillespie and TIGHAR filed statements in court on Tuesday saying they had reviewed both the video and the findings of Mellon's experts and saw no such thing.

"I regret to have to say that I am entirely unconvinced, and not even mildly suspicious, that the 2010 TIGHAR expedition produced evidence of an aircraft debris field on the reef at Nikumaroro," stated Les Kaufman, a professor of biology at the Boston University Marine Program who reviewed the materials for Gillespie and TIGHAR.

Gillespie said Wednesday he's pleased with his experts' reports. Discussions are underway to see if the lawsuit could be resolved, he said.

Efforts to reach Mellon's lawyers for comment on Wednesday were unsuccessful.

Gillespie said he questioned the approach of Mellon's experts in overlaying computer-assisted drawings of the airplane parts to try to match shapes in the underwater coral shown on the video.

" 'Because this thing seems to fit this thing, therefore it must be this thing.' It's totally circular reasoning," Gillespie said. "It's just astounding to me that anybody with a straight face would offer up something like that in support of Mellon's allegations. It's mind-boggling."

Gillespie said that there's been no doubt about it when his group has encountered the submerged wreckage of other aircraft.

"The wreckage is just sitting there. It's totally different from the surrounding environment," Gillespie said of the other aircraft his group has encountered in its underwater searches.

"There might be some coral growth on it, but generally speaking, coral doesn't like aluminum," Gillespie said. "You don't see a lot of coral growth on aluminum. When we have seen aircraft wreckage underwater, it's very apparent that's what it is."

Ex-official leaves huge debt for California city

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A former city official who became a symbol of municipal greed was sentenced Wednesday to 12 years in prison — less than half the time it will take the nearly bankrupt Los Angeles suburb of Bell to dig itself out of the estimated $150 million in debt he left behind.

A judge also ordered former Bell city manager Robert Rizzo to make $8.8 million in restitution, but prosecutors say that only covers the money he illegally took for himself.

In all, Rizzo cost the modest city more than $150 million in legal fees and illegally collected taxes that must be repaid, said prosecutors and Bell officials.

"That resulted in borrowing that will not be paid back until 2040," Anthony Taylor, an attorney representing the city of Bell, told Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Kathleen Kennedy.

Rizzo was arrested in 2010 after it was revealed that he was paying himself an annual salary and benefits package of $1.5 million to run a city where a quarter of the population lives below the federal poverty line. His $800,000 in wages alone was double that of the president of the United States.

His top assistant had a salary and benefits package of $564,000 and most Bell City Council members were getting about $100,000 a year. Several other top officials were paid hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Former assistant city manager Angela Spaccia was sentenced last week to nearly 12 years in prison and five former council members face as much as four years when they are sentenced later this year.

Kennedy, however, said the entire scam could be traced to Rizzo.

"Rizzo was controlling everything," the judge said, noting he doled out millions of dollars in illegal loans to pretty much anybody who asked and raised salaries to levels the judge called "absolutely ridiculous."

"Nobody wanted to upset the apple cart because they were being paid so well," she added.

When somebody did complain, Kennedy said, Rizzo got rid of them, and when some members of the public began to catch on, he falsified public records to hide the fraud.

Rizzo, who was Bell's city manager for 18 years, told the judge he ran "a very good, tight ship" for the first 12 years but then went astray when he began to put himself, not city residents, first.

"I'm very, very sorry for that. I apologize for that. If I could go back and make changes, I would," he said.

By the time he was arrested, Rizzo had amassed a fortune. He owned a horse ranch in Washington state, several thoroughbred racehorses and an expensive home in Huntington Beach.

Kennedy said she appreciated the apology.

"But it doesn't change the fact that, Mr. Rizzo, you did some very, very bad things for a very long time," she said.

On Monday, Rizzo was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for income tax evasion. Kennedy said he would be transferred to a state prison after that time was served. She allowed him to remain free until May 30 after being assured his $2 million bail would be forfeited if he doesn't surrender on that day.

Rizzo's attorney, James Spertus, had asked Kennedy to impose a five-year sentence. The lawyer said outside court that he wasn't surprised by the longer term. He expects Rizzo, 60, to be free in about six years after time off is granted for good behavior.

The sentencing of Rizzo brought the case close to an end four years after the Los Angeles Times first reported the true salaries of Rizzo and others. It was later learned that City Hall had illegally raised property taxes, business license fees, sewage fees and trash collection fees; illegally diverted gas taxes and other state and federal funds; and issued $50 million in voter-approved bonds for a park that was never built. Much of the money was used to cover the huge salaries of city officials.

Rizzo, who hasn't spoken publicly since the scandal began, talked briefly with two reporters outside the courthouse.

"I should have realized that the salaries were way out of whack and taken steps to bring them back into line, but it just got away from me and there wasn't much I could do after a period of time," he said after pausing to gather his thoughts.

Several others in city government were well aware of what was going on, he said before adding, "I don't want to rat anybody out."

After a passer-by shouted at him that justice had finally been served, Rizzo smiled, shook hands and said, "I've got to go."

How to take a screenshot on a Galaxy S5, or any other Android device

Taking a snapshot of your Android phone's screen is not hard, and there are all sorts of other situations where a screenshot would come in handy, from sharing your home screen setup with friends to obtaining pictorial proof of your new high score in a game. Sadly, it has never been all that easy to accomplish, often needing a third-party app to achieve.

With the introduction of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) a few years ago, that all changed, so here's a quick guide on how this feature works on the Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy Note 2, and Galaxy Note as examples.

We've also included a guide to taking a screenshot on ANY other Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean (4.1, 4.2, 4.3), and KitKat (4.4) device (that's most of them).

Updated on 4-15-2014 by Jeffrey Van Camp: We've added the Galaxy S5 to this guide. Taking a screenshot on the GS5 is the same as any other Galaxy device. You can use the palm swipe gesture or the Power+Home button combination.

Take a screenshot on a Galaxy S5 using a hand swipe

Taking a screenshot on the Galaxy S5 with a hand swipe is almost the same as older models, but the Settings menu is simpler.

Open Settings > Motions and gestures (in the Motion category).

Tick the Palm swipe to capture box.
Close the menu and find the screen you want to capture. Shape your hand like you are karate "chopping" the screen, set your hand vertically on either side of the screen, then horizontally swipe across it — it doesn't matter which way — like your hand is a photo scanner. If you've done it correctly, you should hear the camera shutter and receive a notification that a picture has been saved to the gallery. It takes a few tries.
Enjoy!

Take a screenshot on a Galaxy S4 or earlier phone using a hand swipe

This should work on almost any other recent Galaxy phone (ones that have come out since the Galaxy S3 in 2012). If your phone's lock screen has a water droplet unlock effect, a sun flare unlock effect, or a colorful bubbly effect, this should work for you.

Open Settings > Motion.
Scroll down and find Hand Motion, then Palm swipe to capture, and tick the box.

Screenshot away!
Take a screenshot on any Galaxy phone using a button combination

This should work on the Galaxy S3 and more recent phones like the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 Zoom, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Mega 6.3, Galaxy Tab 3 Pro, and Galaxy S4 Mini. Any of them that have a Home button.

Pressing the Power and Home buttons at the same time will grab an image of the screen. This can be awkward to get right, so it's important to remember to press both buttons at the same time, and hold them until the shutter sound is heard. (You need to hold the Power button slightly before pressing the Home button, then hold them both down.)

Both of these methods will also work on a Galaxy Note.

Take a screenshot on the Galaxy Note 3 (or Note Pro) using the S Pen

On the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note Pro, and Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition), there are now two new ways to take screenshots (or something like them). To use these, you have to open the Air Command menu, which you can do by pulling out the S Pen stylus, or by hovering the pen over the screen and clicking the button on it.

Scrapbooker: This is a selection in the Air Command radial menu. It lets you draw a circle around a part of the screen to take a screenshot. After you take a picture of part of the screen, you can add tags, notes, and categories to organize the pic. You can access the photo from a special scrapbook app on the device.

Screen Write: This feature was also on the Note 2, but that device lacked an Air Command menu. Select it from the options to take a screenshot. You can then write notes on top of the image. There are options to change your pen color and size if you want to get creative.

Just hold the button and tap: On all S Pen Galaxy devices, you can also hold down the button on the S Pen and touch the pen to the screen, holding it there until you see and/or hear a screenshot being taken. This technique is best on the Note 2, Note 8.0, and original Note 10.1.

Take a screenshot on other Android 4.0 – 4.4 KitKat devices

Taking a screenshot on an Android 4.4 KitKat phone or tablet works the same as it has on every Android device for a couple years now.

Press the Power button and Volume down key at the same time. Remember to hold them until you hear a click or see a screenshot sound. This works on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Google Nexus 7 tablet and should be the first method you try on any Android device. Remember to hold both keys down at precisely the same time, and hold until the you see a shot being taken or hear a shutter click.
For older Android phones, such as those running 2.3 Gingerbread, you'll need to head over to the Google Play Store, where there are several apps that will do the job for you. Screenshot ER and Screenshot UX are popular choices, but often require your phone to be rooted. You can also take a look at No Root Screenshot It if you don't want to root your device.

If you're using Android 4.3 or 4.4 KitKat and share a screenshot after you take it, the text field will automatically include the date and time you took the photo. You can delete it if you wish.

The Sophisticated Nokia X camera app unofficially ported to other Android 4.1+ devices

In the past, Nokia has shown that they know what a photographer wants in a smartphone camera app: lots and lots of manual control options. Combining that amount of control with a great camera made many a photographer drool over the company's Lumia devices. However, if you wanted to experience all that goodness, you were stuck with the Windows Phone system that Nokia's new handsets come with, which isn't to everyone's taste. For those preferring the Android experience, but wishing for a similarly powerful photographic experince, there is a beam of light, though.

For its Nokia X device, the Finnish manufacturer has created a camera app similar to that of its Lumia devices. And because the Nokia X runs on Android, the app should, in theory, be portable to other Android devices. That's exactly what a member of the XDA forums set out to prove, apparently with success. The developer, going by the forum alias "xperiaz2," managed to pull the app from the Nokia X, and hacked it to make it work with other Android phones running version 4.1 or higher.

So, what's in the Nokia X camera app that you should get excited about? If you're a photography enthusiast, you'll appreciate the ability to manually set the camera's ISO sensitivity, tweak the amount of noise reduction that the app applies to an image, or enable a live histogram that helps you preserve highlight and/or shadow information. There are, however, a couple downsides. For one, the app may not work on all devices. Some users report that they are encountering so-called "forced closes" when using the app, which means basically that the app gets shut down by the system for some reason. (We failed to get it to work with a Sony Xperia V.)

Also, the image quality is reportedly not very good because the app applies a lot of compression to the images in order to save storage space. This is a well-known problem with smartphones, and in addition to aggressive noise reduction, one of the main reasons why many photographers often don't use their phones for any serious work. Still, for some the Nokia X camera app may just be what they've been looking for, i.e., a way to exert more control over the image parameters when shooting with their phones.

If you want to give the app a try, you can find it over at the XDA forums. Keep in mind, though, that the app has never been officially tested and certified to work on any Android phone other than the Nokia X. Be warned: You'll be using the app at your own risk, so neither its creator, nor XDA forums, nor Digital Trends can be held responsible for any damage it might cause to your device.

If you manage to successfully load the app onto your Android device, let us know about it in the comments section below.
