Sad News: “19 members of Redeemed Christian Church of God who were travelling in one bus were burnt beyond recognition"

A multiple crash on the Potiskum-Maiduguri highway, involving three vehicles on Monday killed 35 people, including 19 church members on their way back from Lagos where they attended a religious meeting.

"All the 19 members of Redeemed Christian Church of God who were travelling in one bus were burnt beyond recognition as the bus caught fire on collision with the other two vehicles which also burst in flames shortly afterwards," said Yusuf Sani, spokesman of the Federal Road Safety Commission in Yobe state.

"The victims in the other two vehicles were returning from a wedding."
The spokesman blamed the collision, which occurred on the highway, on speeding.

On Sunday, 20 traders returning from a local market were killed when the open van they were in collided with an articulated truck, Sani said, attributing the accident to "reckless overtaking".
Sixteen of the 20 victims were girls who had been selling wares, he added.
Another 10 persons also died in another crash on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

WhatsApp founder Jan Koum denies 'careless' reports

Facebook bought messaging application WhatsApp for $19bn (£11bn) in January.

WhatsApp founder Jan Koum has spoken out against "careless and inaccurate" reports about possible changes to the messaging app's privacy policies.

In a blog post, Mr Koum sought to reassure users that Facebook's $19bn (£11bn) purchase of the firm would not change core principles.

"Respect for your privacy is coded into our DNA," he wrote.

The post comes in the wake of complaints to US regulators by privacy advocates about Facebook's purchase.

Mr Koum referenced his childhood in Ukraine in the 1980s, and wrote that "the fact that we couldn't speak freely without the fear that our communications would be monitored by KGB is in part why we moved to the United States when I was a teenager".

He said he would not have allowed the firm to be acquired by Facebook if it meant changing core WhatsApp policies like not asking for users' names, email addresses or birthdays. He said he would not allow user data to be used for advertising.

"Speculation to the contrary isn't just baseless and unfounded, it's irresponsible," he added.

"It has the effect of scaring people into thinking we're suddenly collecting all kinds of new data. That's just not true."

Privacy concerns

WhatsApp currently makes money by selling a $0.99 subscription to users.

Mr Koum previously railed against advertising in a 2012 blog post.

But privacy advocates have asked US regulators to block the purchase, arguing that Facebook has a long history of promising not to use user data for advertising purposes, only to do just that.

In a filing with the Federal Trade Commission, two privacy groups - the Electronic Privacy Information Center and the Center for Digital Democracy - argued that WhatsApp users provided the firm with personal data under the assumption it would not be shared.

"Users provided detailed personal information to the company including private text to close friends. Facebook routinely makes use of user information for advertising purposes and has made clear that it intends to incorporate the data of WhatsApp users into the user profiling business model," wrote the groups.

"The proposed acquisition will therefore violate WhatsApp users' understanding of their exposure to online advertising and constitutes an unfair and deceptive trade practice, subject to investigation by the Federal Trade Commission."

The FTC has not yet said whether it will open an investigation.

Bitcoin: Man identified as inventor moves to 'clear name'

Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto has repeatedly denied being the inventor of Bitcoin.

Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto, the man named by Newsweek as the creator of virtual currency Bitcoin, has taken on a lawyer to "clear his name", the 64-year-old said in a statement.

US magazine Newsweek ran an article on 6 March making the claim, and still stands by its story.

But via his lawyers, Mr Nakamoto said: "I did not create, invent or otherwise work on Bitcoin."

He said that "financial distress" meant he did not have an internet connection.

"I am writing this statement to clear my name," Mr Nakamoto wrote.

"The first time I heard the term 'bitcoin' was from my son in mid-February 2014.

"After being contacted by a reporter, my son called me and used the word, which I had never before heard.

"Shortly thereafter, the reporter confronted me at my home. I called the police. I never consented to speak with the reporter. In an ensuing discussion with a reporter from the Associated Press, I called the technology 'bitcom'. I was still unfamiliar with the term."

'Confusion and stress'

Neither Newsweek nor Leah Goodman, the reporter who wrote the original story, have commented on the latest statement.

In the days following the publication of the story, Newsweek put out an additional note saying it stood behind Ms Goodman and the reporting contained in the article.

"Ms Goodman's research was conducted under the same high editorial and ethical standards that have guided Newsweek for more than 80 years," the magazine said.

"Newsweek stands strongly behind Ms Goodman and her article."

The magazine called for Mr Nakamoto's privacy to be respected - an issue he had hit out at the magazine about, and has reiterated with his latest comment.

"Newsweek's false report has been the source of a great deal of confusion and stress for myself, my 93-year-old mother, my siblings, and their families," he said.

"I offer my sincerest thanks to those people in the United States and around the world who have offered me their support. I have retained legal counsel. This will be our last public statement on this matter.

"I ask that you now respect our privacy."

Google and Viacom settle seven-year YouTube row

High profile shows owned by Viacom were uploaded to YouTube
Google and Viacom have resolved a long-running legal battle regarding copyrighted material on YouTube.

The out-of-court settlement brings to an end a dispute that began in 2007.

Viacom had sought $1bn (£600m) in damages from the search giant.

The companies said in a joint statement: "This settlement reflects the growing collaborative dialogue between our two companies on important opportunities, and we look forward to working more closely together."

The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the BBC understands no money has changed hands.

Shared revenue

Last April, a judge in New York rejected Viacom's damages claim, but the company launched an appeal.

Viacom's complaint was that shows such as The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, South Park and SpongeBob SquarePants had been uploaded to YouTube without authorisation, and subsequently viewed hundreds of thousands of times.

In its defence, Google said it had followed the law set out by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which states that a host site - such as YouTube - cannot be held accountable for the material uploaded by its users, provided it acted to remove content when asked by the copyright holder.

Since its launch in 2005, and particularly after its acquisition by Google a year later, YouTube has tussled with content creators regarding copyrighted clips being uploaded and viewed for free.

However, it has settled many of those disputes thanks to its shared revenue model - in which advertising is displayed alongside copyrighted content with a share going to both Google and the copyright holder.

Miss Teen USA hacker jailed for 18 months

Teen USA winner Cassidy Wolf attended the same school as hacker Jared Abraham.

An American teenager who blackmailed young women with compromising images grabbed by hacking their webcams has been jailed for 18 months.

Jared James Abrahams broke into about 150 online accounts over a two-year period to commit the crimes.

More than two dozen women in the US, Ireland and other nations had their computers hacked by Abrahams.

One victim was Miss Teen USA 2013 beauty contest winner - Cassidy Wolf.

Abrahams was arrested in early 2013 and pleaded guilty to one count of computer hacking and three of extortion in November.

In a statement about the sentencing, the US Department of Justice said Abrahams had targeted women he had known personally or found by hacking their Facebook pages. Abrahams took over email, social media accounts and computers and used this access to remotely turn on the machine and grab pictures when his victims were naked.

Abrahams had then extorted cash from victims by threatening to publicly post nude photos and videos, said the DoJ in a statement about the sentencing.

"As digital devices, email accounts, and social media accounts now contain the most intimate details of the public's daily lives, the impact of this type of hacking and extortion becomes more pronounced, troubling, and far-reaching," wrote DoJ prosecutors in a document filed in advance of the sentencing hearing.

"In some cases, this type of criminal behaviour can be life-changing for the victims - especially for vulnerable victims who may feel it is impossible to rebuild their tarnished reputations," said the document.

People should be careful where they posted images and videos to avoid becoming a victim of extortion and escape the risk of compromising content being stolen, said the DoJ. In addition, it said, people should choose hard-to-guess passwords, keep security software updated and avoid opening unexpected attachments.

Lastly, it said, people should keep webcams covered when they are not in use.

Star Wars: Episode VII filming to begin in UK in May

There are strong rumours that original stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill will return in the latest Star Wars film
Star Wars: Episode VII will start shooting at Pinewood Studios near London in May, its producers have said.

Disney and Lucasfilm confirmed the latest instalment in the series would be set about 30 years after the events of Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

It "will star a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces", the press release added.

Star Wars: Episode VII, directed by JJ Abrams, will be released in cinemas on 18 December 2015.

The news of a return for "some very familiar faces" will fuel rumours that the stars of the original trilogy - Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher - will appear in Episode VII.

Open auditions

According to the Hollywood reporter, Adam Driver is in final negotiations to play the main villain.

R2-D2 will definitely be returning in Episode VII
He is best known for his role in hit TV series Girls, but has also recently appeared in films including Lincoln and Inside Llewyn Davis.

Open auditions for two roles in the new films were held in the UK and Ireland last November.

They were a "street smart and strong" orphaned girl in her late teens and a "smart capable" man in his late teens or early 20s.

It is not known whether any of the actors eventually cast in the film were found through the open auditions.

Episode VII will be the fifth Star Wars movie to to be shot in the UK.

The original Star Wars trilogy was filmed at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire, while The Phantom Menace began shooting on 26 June 1997 at Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire.

George Lucas directed a bluescreen sequence with actors Ian McDiarmid and Ray Park, who played Senator Palpatine and Darth Maul.

Magazine Do 85 rich people have same wealth as half the world?

More or Less, the BBC Radio 4 team that investigates numbers and statistics, is often asked to check out claims that readers or listeners to the radio programme find hard to believe.

Here are four often-quoted facts that the team has looked into.

Are the 85 richest people in the world as wealthy as the world's poorest half?

A number of listeners got in touch to ask about this fact, widely reported around the world, from the Washington Post to CNN.

The figure comes from a report by British aid charity Oxfam. It got lots of attention, so the charity produced another figure for the UK, stating that the five richest families had more wealth than the poorest 20%. But how were these figures calculated?

Ricardo Fuentes-Nieva, head of research at Oxfam GB, looked at data from the Global Wealth Report 2013 produced by bank Credit Suisse.

He totted up the total wealth that was attributed to the poorer half of the world's population - less than 1% of the world's wealth, about $1.7tn (£1tn).

He then went to the Forbes rich list and tallied up all the wealth of the top billionaires until he reached 1.7 trillion US dollars, reaching the 85th richest person in the world. The UK figure was calculated in a similar manner - using the Credit Suisse data and the Forbes list.

"We acknowledge, everyone acknowledges, that it has shortcomings but it is as good as it gets," says Fuentes-Nieva.

The comparison has certainly generated headlines but is it reasonable?

There is a problem with Oxfam's comparison because counter-intuitively, low wealth does not mean you are poor, says Dr Anthony Shorrocks, former director of the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research, and one of a number of respected economists behind the Credit Suisse report.

Some people in Western countries who fall into the bottom 50% for wealth may not be poor in the true sense. They might be a graduate in the UK laden with debt and no assets, or a young professional who spends all their income.

The other misconception, according to Deirdre McCloskey, professor of economic history at Gothenburg University in Sweden, is that these super-rich individuals have so much wealth that it's making half the world poor.

But if you took all the money of the 85 richest people and gave it to the poor in a one-off payment, she says, it would only increase each person's wealth by about $500 (£300).

Are there one million Maasai in Africa?

Hans, from the US, has seen this number floating around for 15 years, but where does it come from and is it true?

The Maasai are a traditionally nomadic group which live in the south of Kenya and the north of Tanzania. The figure of one million has been reported all over the place, going back several years.

Dr Ernestina Coast, an associate professor of population studies at the LSE, traced it back to a paper from 1998, but says it doesn't give any supporting evidence for the number.

This 15-year-old statistic made her suspicious, because Kenya collects census information on the number of Maasai in the population, but Tanzania does not.

"In Tanzania a very different approach was taken. It said 'first and foremost we are Tanzanians and our tribal affiliation or ethnic group are much less important.' So they stopped collecting any ethnicity data."

In Kenya's census of 2009, around 840,0000 people identified themselves as Maasai.

Some even doubt this number. Kakuta is a Maasai and founder of the Maasai Association, which builds schools and facilities in Kenya.

"In Maasai society, some people are against census taking because traditionally families will not tell you how many children they have.

"So they often refuse to participate in census taking, or give wrong information to the census takers. It is a tradition which goes back for generations and generations," he says.

So the figure of one million has been floating around for years with little evidence. By accident, as a rough figure, it might not be too far off, but we can't know for sure.

Is it true that a quarter of Americans do not know the Earth goes round the sun?

Paul, who lives in Dubai, read in Time magazine that a third of Americans and a quarter of Europeans did not know that the Earth goes round the sun.

The American figure comes from research by the National Science Federation, a US government agency which has been asking this question as part of its survey of public attitudes to science since 1988.

It asked a range of adults: "Does the Earth go around the sun, or does the sun go around the Earth?"

Tom W Smith, who carried out the poll at NORC, a specialist centre at the University of Chicago, says they sampled a group which reflects the whole population in terms of gender, age, education and ethnicity.

But why would so many people get this wrong? "Most of these questions involve having learned a scientific fact and remembering it," says Dr Smith.

"But if someone goes outside and observes the fact the sun rises in the east and sets in the west each day, that casual non-scientific observation might well lead them to take in the belief that the sun is revolving around the Earth."

The most recent research on this appears to be a European Union survey in 2005 which shows only 66% getting it right.

Here the question is slightly different. "The Sun goes around the Earth - true or false?" So you are not strictly comparing like with like.

But even so, Europeans also fail to get this question right in large numbers.

And other surveys over the past few years show that people in India and Malaysia don't do much better.

Is it true that half of Tasmanians cannot read or write properly?

Alan Walker from Australia got in touch to say he heard a TV broadcast claiming that half of Tasmanians were illiterate and innumerate.

Tasmania is a large, mostly rural island off the south coast of Australia, where half a million people live.

The data comes from a survey of adults aged 15 to 64 in literacy and numeracy skills back in 2012.

The survey ranked participants in five levels of competency - one being the lowest, and five the highest.

Hobart, Tasmania: Are its citizens any more illiterate than elsewhere in Australia?
Some have argued that ideally people should be at Level Three to be able to cope in a modern economy.

On that basis, half of Tasmanians did not reach that level. But according to Dr Bruce Caldwell, from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, that doesn't mean you are illiterate or innumerate. For example, people at Level One can read a newspaper and pick out basic information.

Tasmania's results are slightly worse than the Australian average, but Dr Caldwell says they are comparable with other parts of the country.

He also gives a reason why Tasmania's results may be lower than the average: "Tasmania's population is slightly older than the national average and test scores tend to decline after about 35 years."

The research was part of a larger international survey run by the OECD. Senior analyst William Thorn says he did not think it was fair to say that half of Tasmanians could not read or write properly - in most advanced countries, very few people cannot read or write.

Female genital mutilation: London hospitals treat 4,000 patients

At least 66,000 girls and women in the UK are believed to be victims of FGM
Nearly 4,000 women and girls have been treated for female genital mutilation (FGM) in London's hospitals since 2009, according to new figures.

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust treated the most FGM patients, with 1,146 seen over the past five years.

The data was obtained through Freedom of Information requests to NHS Trusts by BBC London 94.9.

London's mayor Boris Johnson said the practice was "absolutely intolerable".

Forty-one hospital trusts were contacted by the BBC with most supplying figures. Six said they did not currently record figures on FGM, while four did not respond.

The remaining 31 trusts reported that a total of 3,939 FGM patients had been treated in London hospitals.

St George's Healthcare NHS Trust treated the second largest number of patients, with a total of 795 seen between 2009 and 2013, eight of whom were born in the UK.

The trust also revealed six girls under the age of 18 had been treated.

Mr Johnson said he was committed to delivering a pilot initiative aimed at improving the way agencies in the capital identify and respond to FGM.

'Barbaric crime'

"This is a crime basically outlawed in the early-mid 1980s and yet, unlike France, we have not had one single successful prosecution for what is unquestionably a completely barbaric crime," he said.

"It's time to stop being so nervous, so gingerly and hesitant. This is something that is absolutely intolerable in a place like London."

FGM is most common among some African, Asian and Middle Eastern communities.

But campaigners say there is a lack of knowledge about how prevalent the practice is and this is hampering social services and the police in the collection of evidence.

Dr Phoebe Abe, a Hillingdon GP, runs a free weekly FGM clinic where she is currently treating 60 women, eight of whom are under 17.

"These women have adhesions, vaginal infections, pelvic inflammatory infections, urine infections - for years they have been having this problems," she said.

Last month the Department of Health announced that, from April, all NHS hospitals will be able to record if a patient has undergone FGM or if there is a family history of it.

By September, all acute hospitals will have to report this data to the department on a monthly basis.

At least 66,000 girls and women in the UK are believed to be victims of FGM.

Tony Benn could share chapel honour with Margaret Thatcher

Baroness Thatcher's coffin rested overnight inside the chapel before her funeral last year.

Buckingham Palace has been asked to allow the body of late MP Tony Benn to rest overnight before his funeral in a chapel in the Palace of Westminster.

The request was reportedly made by Parliamentary authorities and backed by Commons Speaker John Bercow.

If permission were given Mr Benn's body would lie in the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft on 26 March.

Baroness Thatcher's body rested in the chapel on the eve of her funeral in April last year.

Mr Benn, who was a Labour MP for nearly 50 years, died last week aged 88.

A parliamentary source told the BBC that if permission were granted by the Palace - and that has not yet been forthcoming - Mr Benn's body would lie in the chapel on 26 March, the eve of his funeral.

However, the source stressed that if the application is approved his body would not be put on public display and he would not be "lying in state", adding that it would be a private occasion "for the family".

Mr Benn was a fierce critic of Margaret Thatcher during the 1980s
The chapel is sometimes used for weddings and christenings by the families of MPs and peers.

The Telegraph has reported that a short service would be held in the event of Mr Benn's body arriving in the chapel and that the Rev Rose Hudson-Wilkin, the chaplain to the Speaker, has already agreed to keep vigil overnight - should permission be granted. But a BBC correspondent has said it is not expected that a religious service will be held.

Baroness Thatcher's coffin was moved to the chapel the night before her funeral, on 17 April last year, where the Dean of Westminster led a short service for about 100 people.

Mr Benn, who served in the cabinet throughout the 1970s, died at his home on 14 March, with Ed Miliband, leader of the Labour Party, and Prime Minister David Cameron, leading the tributes.

He was a major figure on the left of the Labour Party, a popular public speaker, an anti-war campaigner and a political diarist.

MPs will also pay tribute to Mr Benn, who stood down as an MP in 2001, during a special debate in the House of Commons on Thursday.

It will be led by Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

Online porn and bullying - children 'need more protection'

Stronger action must be taken to protect children from online bullying and pornography, MPs have said.

Internet firms are also warned they may face prosecution for failing to show commitment to safeguarding youngsters.

The Commons culture, media and sport committee said efforts by the industry to eradicate child porn may prove "woefully insufficient".

It also said younger children were able to access social media sites owing to inadequate age verification processes.

The committee questioned whether police have sufficient resources to track down paedophiles online and said more funding should be made available if necessary.

It welcomed the commitment by industry body the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) to "embark on proactive searching for online child abuse images".

But the MPs' report said the recent recruitment of seven extra full-time employees by the IWF to track down illegal images online "might prove woefully insufficient to achieve substantial progress towards... the eradication of child abuse images from the open internet".

Internet firms that fail to show the "utmost commitment" to protecting children could face penalties, the committee warns
In evidence to the committee the IWF said its "self-regulatory and multi-stakeholder" organisation was very effective at dealing with child sexual abuse content and added that it "remains committed as ever to continue developing and improving the fight against child sexual abuse content in the years to come."

The MPs called for an increase in prosecutions of legal adult pornography sites that do not take adequate steps to prevent children accessing them.

The committee said protections like those in place in the "real world", such as putting pornographic magazines on the top shelf of the newsagent and stopping children entering sex shops, had to be provided online.

Sites that are "particularly harmful" should be blocked altogether, the MPs proposed.

Among other recommendations, they said there was a "clear need to ensure that the police have adequate resources to track down and arrest online paedophiles in sufficient numbers to act as a meaningful deterrent to others".

Part of life

Jim Gamble, former head of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection centre, told the MPs each force should recruit 10 special constables dedicated to the work.

Conservative MP John Whittingdale, chair of the committee, said the current "relatively unfettered access" to adult pornography online represented a failure to protect children.

While more regulation is not necessary, he said "those who profit from the internet must demonstrate the utmost commitment to protecting children and should be prosecuted and penalised if they don't".

The committee also criticised age verification processes used by Twitter and Facebook, saying these were "at best flimsy" and led to younger children accessing their sites.

Mr Whittingdale added that bullying in the playground could merge with bullying on smartphones and tablets.

"Sometimes this ends with the tragedy of teenage suicide," he said. "It is just one reminder that staying safe off-line includes staying safe online too."

Israel attacks Syrian army sites in Golan Heights clash

The Golan Heights, a rocky plateau in south-western Syria, has great political and strategic significance
Israel says it has attacked several Syrian military sites in retaliation for a bombing that wounded four of its troops in the occupied Golan Heights.

Israel's military said its targets included a Syrian army headquarters, a training facility and artillery units.

It comes after four Israeli soldiers were hurt in an explosion on Tuesday.

Syrian and Israeli forces have traded fire a number of times over the ceasefire line in the Golan Heights since the uprising in Syria began.

Israeli warplanes carried out air strikes on the Syrian facilities overnight, a spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said. He described the targets as on the Syrian-held side of the Golan Heights.

"A short while ago the IDF targeted several Syrian army positions which aided and abetted the attack against IDF personnel yesterday," the army said in a statement early on Wednesday.

'Escalation of violence'

The Golan Heights, a rocky plateau in south-western Syria, has a political and strategic significance that belies its size.

Israel seized the region from Syria in the closing stages of the 1967 Middle East War, and thwarted a Syrian attempt to retake it in 1973.

The two countries remain technically in a state of war, and UN observers are deployed to monitor a 70km-long (44-mile) demilitarised zone.

Since the uprising began in Syria three years ago, both government forces and rebel fighters have repeatedly crossed into the buffer zone.

On Tuesday, Israel said four of its soldiers were injured as they approached the demilitarized zone after identifying "suspicious activity".

Israel said its soldiers were injured as they approached the demilitarized zone on Tuesday
IDF spokesman Lt Col Peter Lerner described the blast as "an unacceptable escalation of violence from Syria".

"We will not tolerate this threat against Israeli civilians or troops."

There was no immediate response from the Syrian government.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the border with Syria had been recently "filling up" with jihadist fighters hostile to Israel and militants from the Lebanese Shia Islamist movement, Hezbollah.

Two weeks ago, Israeli troops shot two "Hezbollah-affiliated terrorists" attempting to plant an explosive device near the fence demarcating the demilitarised zone, the Israeli military said.

Detectives searching for missing York chef Claudia Lawrence say they have new lines of inquiry but no prime suspect.

North Yorkshire Police say her mobile phone was deliberately turned off on the day after she disappeared in 2009.

Unidentified fingerprints have been found in her house and a man's DNA found on a cigarette end in her car.

Detectives have said they think she was murdered and an appeal is to be shown on Crimewatch on Wednesday evening.

North Yorkshire Police's new major crime unit has been assessing the case and carried out new forensic work and searches at her home on Heworth Road.

Police said they found the additional fingerprints using "advanced techniques" not available in 2009.

Det Supt Dai Malyn, head of the unit, said: "We are keen to eliminate people who have been inside Claudia's home before and after her disappearance."

Police said a DNA profile of a man had been established from a cigarette end found in Claudia Lawrence's Corsa
The detective said Miss Lawrence's hair straighteners appeared to be missing from her home.

"From our inquiries, it is doubtful that she would take them to work in her blue and grey Karrimor bag which has also never been found," he said.

'Further analysis'

The investigation team still believe Claudia's silver Samsung D900 mobile phone was deliberately turned off by someone at about 12:10 GMT on Thursday, 19 March 2009.

Mr Malyn added: "Further analysis of Claudia's mobile phone, particularly cell site activity, also shows she was in the Acomb area of York in the weeks leading up to her disappearance.

"We believe she may have been socialising with a person or persons.

"If this is something a person wants to discuss with us sensitively, we can deal with that in a discreet manner using trained officers."

Mr Malyn said another new strand of the inquiry was focused on tracing a man who told staff in a Co-op store at Tang Hall in York that he knew Miss Lawrence or used to work with her.

This was on 1 April 2009, about 10 days after she was reported missing, said Mr Malyn.

North Yorkshire Police released CCTV images of a man who told staff in a Co-op at Tang Hall, York, that he knew Claudia Lawrence or used to work with her
The detective also said a DNA profile of a man had been established from a cigarette end found in Miss Lawrence's "green-blue" Vauxhall Corsa, which was being repaired at a local garage at the time she disappeared.

Mr Malyn said the DNA profile did not relate to any man who had yet come forward.

Repeated appeals

He added it was reasonable to consider whether there was a link between this man and an individual spotted by a witness known throughout the five-year investigation as the "left-handed smoker".

This man was seen smoking with a woman on Melrosegate Bridge in York at about 05:35 GMT on 19 March 2009 when Miss Lawrence would have been walking to work.

Mr Malyn said neither the man or the woman had been traced despite repeated appeals.

"It is vital that we trace this man as soon as possible as he could have important information to assist the investigation," he said.

Det Ch Supt Simon Mason said there was no prime suspect, but a "number of individuals" of "particular interest" to the investigation.

North Yorkshire Police will make a fresh appeal for information and detail the progress of the renewed investigation on BBC One at 21:30 GMT.

The New £1 coin to be introduced to combat counterfeiting

The Royal Mint is introducing the new coin as it believes 3% of existing £1 coins are fake
A new £1 coin, designed to be the "most secure in the world", is set to be introduced in 2017.

It comes amid concerns about the 30-year old coin's vulnerability to counterfeiting, with an estimated 45 million forgeries in circulation.

The new coin is based on the design of the old 3d (three penny) piece, or threepenny bit, a 12-sided coin in circulation between 1937 and 1971.

A competition will be held to decide the image on one side of the coin.

The Royal Mint, which believes 3% of existing £1 coins are fake, said the move would increase "public confidence" in the UK's currency and reduce costs for banks and other businesses.

'Resilient £1 coin'

The announcement comes as Chancellor George Osborne prepares to deliver his fifth Budget on Wednesday.

He tweeted this picture of the £1 coin next to the Budget Box, captioned: "Today I will deliver a Budget for a resilient economy - starting with a resilient pound coin."

Mr Osborne posted this picture on Twitter on Wednesday morning
The current £1 coin was introduced in 1983 as part of the phasing out of the one pound note, which was withdrawn five years later.

Of the 1.5 billion coins estimated to be in circulation, as many as two million counterfeit ones are removed every year.

The government said the existing coin had been in existence longer than most others and its technology was no longer suitable to combat increasingly sophisticated counterfeiting techniques.

The new coin has been modelled on the old threepenny bit
The proposed new coin will be roughly the same size as the current one and will be based on the three pence piece that disappeared after decimalisation in the early 1970s.

The new coin will be made in two colours and will incorporate state-of-the-art technology to ensure it can be authenticated at all points.

While the Queen's head will be on the obverse side of the coin, as it is on all legal tender in the UK, the Treasury has said there will be a public competition to decide the image on the other side.

'Pioneering'

Government sources said the time was right to "retire" the existing £1 coin and using the threepenny bit as inspiration for its replacement was a "fitting tribute" to such an iconic design.

"With advances in technology making high value coins like the £1 ever more vulnerable to counterfeiters, it's vital that we keep several paces ahead of the criminals to maintain the integrity of our currency," they said.

Adam Lawrence, chief executive of the Royal Mint, which is based in Llantrisant, south Wales, said the process could change the way coins were made in the future.

"It is our aim to identify and produce a pioneering new coin which helps to reduce the opportunities for counterfeiting, helping to boost public confidence in the UK's currency in the process."

The Bank of England, which earlier this year announced banknotes would be made out of plastic rather than cotton from 2016, said the move would "enhance the security and integrity of the currency".

Pro-Russians enter Crimea naval base

Pro-Russian activists have entered a Ukrainian naval base in the Crimean city of Sevastopol.

Russian flags have been seen flying from buildings, the headquarters of the Ukrainian navy.

It comes a day after Crimean leaders signed a treaty with Russia absorbing the peninsula into the Russian Federation after a disputed referendum.

The government in Kiev, the EU and the US, among others, have said they will not recognise the move.

On Monday, the US and the EU imposed sanctions on several officials from Russia and Ukraine accused of involvement in Moscow's actions in the Black Sea peninsula.

'Balaclavas'

An officer inside the Sevastopol base told the BBC that some 200 pro-Russian activists had broken down the gates of the base and gone inside, using an ambulance car.

The senior Ukrainian officer at the scene was negotiating with them, he said.

There have been no reports of clashes or shots being fired.

Ukrainian navy spokesman Sergiy Bogdanov told AFP news agency: "There are about 200 of them, some wearing balaclavas.

"They are unarmed and no shots have been fired from our side. The officers have barricaded themselves inside the building," he said.

He said even though Kiev had authorised the military to use force in Crimea in self-defence "we are not doing so and will not do so".

The Ukrainian crisis began last November after pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych ditched an EU association agreement in favour of stronger ties with Moscow.

He fled Ukraine on 22 February after protests in which more than 80 people were killed.

Pro-Russia armed men then took effective control of Crimea, which has been part of Ukraine since 1954 but has a predominantly ethnic Russian population.

The Crimean port city of Sevastopol is home to the Russian Black Sea fleet.

Pistorius trial: Ballistics expert gives evidence

LIVE: Coverage of murder trial of Oscar Pistorius. May include graphic evidence.

A key police ballistics expert is giving evidence at the murder trial of South African Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius in Pretoria.

Capt Christian Mangena is explaining the trajectory of the bullets which killed Reeva Steenkamp last year.

Mr Pistorius denies murdering his model girlfriend on Valentine's Day 2013, saying he thought she was an intruder.

The evidence may help show whether he was wearing his prosthetic legs at the time of the shooting.

Correspondents say this is important because it could support parts of his account that he shot Ms Steenkamp at his house in the capital, Pretoria, in the early hours of 14 February 2013 by accident.

The prosecution's case is that Mr Pistorius deliberately shot Ms Steenkamp - a 29-year-old model, reality TV star and law graduate - following an argument.

So far, the defence has pointed out several errors by police investigators, including an officer handling the suspected murder weapon without gloves and another stealing from the house.

Oscar Pistorius shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp through a toilet door
If found guilty, the 27-year-old Mr Pistorius - a national sporting hero and double amputee dubbed the "blade runner" because of the prosthetic limbs he wears to race - could face life imprisonment.

The trial is expected to call on more than 100 witnesses. It had been set to last for three weeks, but looks likely to be extended.

There are no juries at trials in South Africa, and his fate will ultimately be decided by the judge, assisted by two assessors.

1. Balcony

Mr Pistorius said in his statement at the start of the trial that he woke in the early hours and walked on his stumps to the balcony, pulled in two fans, closed the sliding door and drew curtains. He said that shortly before he had spoken to Reeva, who was in bed beside him.

He said he rejected prosecution claims that a witness heard arguing coming from the house before the shooting.

2. Bathroom noise

Mr Pistorius said he heard the bathroom window sliding open and believed that an intruder, or intruders, had entered the bathroom through a window which was not fitted with burglar bars.

"Unbeknown to me, Reeva must have gone to the toilet in the bathroom at the time I brought in the fans," he said.

Mr Pistorius said he approached the bathroom armed with his firearm, to defend himself and his girlfriend, believing Ms Steenkamp was still in bed.

3. Shooting

Both sides agree four bullets were fired. Ms Steenkamp was hit three times.

Mr Pistorius said he fired his weapon after hearing a noise in the toilet which he thought was the intruder coming out of the toilet to attack him and Ms Steenkamp.

He said he was in a fearful state, knowing he was on his stumps and unable to run away or properly defend himself.

Mr Pistorius said he rejected claims that he was on his prostheses when he shot at the door.

A witness told the trial she woke to hear a woman screaming and a man shouting for help. She said that after the screams she heard four shots.

4. Bedroom

At his bail hearing last year, Mr Pistorius said he went back to the bedroom after shooting at the toilet door, then noticed Ms Steenkamp was not in bed.

Mr Pistorius said he then realised she could have been in the toilet.

5. Toilet door

Mr Pistorius said he went back to the bathroom but the toilet was locked, so he returned to the bedroom, pulled on his prosthetic legs, turned on the lights before bashing in the toilet door with a cricket bat.

Forensics expert Johannes Vermeulen told the court that the height of the marks on the door caused by the cricket bat suggest Mr Pistorius was on his stumps at the time.

6. Emergency calls

Mr Pistorius's defence team has said he then called security at the gated housing complex and a private paramedic service before carrying Ms Steenkamp downstairs.

But security guard Pieter Baba told the trial he had called Mr Pistorius first, in response to neighbours' reports of gunfire, and not the other way round.

He said Mr Pistorius had told him: "Everything is fine," before calling him back a few minutes later and crying down the phone.

Malaysia missing plane: China widens ship search

Krupa Padhy takes a look at some of the theories about what might have happened on board
China has deployed ships to search new areas for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane, as Thailand said its radars may have tracked the flight shortly after it lost contact.

China has sent nine ships to waters south-east of the Bay of Bengal and west of Indonesia.

Teams from 26 countries are trying to find flight MH370, which went missing on 8 March with 239 people on board.

The entire search area is now roughly the size of Australia.

Malaysia says the plane, which was flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, was intentionally diverted and could have flown on either a northern or southern arc from its last known position in the Malacca Straits.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that the aircraft's crew - or other individuals on the plane - were involved in its disappearance.

The Chinese vessels set off from Singapore early on Wednesday, to search an area of around 300,000 sq km (116,000 sq miles), state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The ships would focus on waters near Sumatra, away from regions being searched by other countries, it added.

'Grave fears'

On Tuesday, China began searching its territory along the northern arc for the aircraft, following a request from the Malaysian authorities.

However, Foreign Minister spokesman Hong Lei said on Wednesday that China had not yet found any sign that the plane entered its territory, Reuters reported.

Australia is leading efforts along the southern arc in the Indian Ocean.

However, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (Amsa) said on Wednesday that neither military aircraft deployed on the search, nor merchant ships transiting through the area, had seen anything in connection to the aircraft.

The BBC's Rupert Wingfield Hayes in Kuala Lumpur says search planes have been grounded because of red tape
"It is a challenging search operation and Amsa continues to hold grave fears for the passengers and crew on board the missing flight," Amsa said.

Meanwhile, Thailand's air force said on Tuesday a re-examination of its radar data found what may have been the plane travelling west towards the Malacca Straits at 01:28 Malaysia time, shortly after it lost contact with air traffic controllers.

This would be consistent with Malaysia's military radar, which spotted the plane over the Malacca Straits - the opposite direction from its planned flight path - early on 8 March.

Thai air force spokesman Montol Suchookorn said that the plane did not enter Thai air space and he could not confirm whether it was flight MH370.

Thai radar later spotted the plane heading north and disappearing over the Andaman Sea, AFP reported, citing the spokesman.

The Thai military had previously said it had not detected any sign of the aircraft.

Possible protests

In another development, police in the Maldives are investigating reports that residents saw a "low-flying airplane" above Kuda Huvadhoo island the day the plane vanished, AFP news agency reports.

Many leads and sightings of possible debris pursued so far have proven not to be linked to the plane.

The entire search area is now 2.24m square nautical miles (7.68m sq km), Malaysian authorities said.

Several countries, including Australia, the US, New Zealand, Korea, Japan and the UAE have committed planes and ships to the search and rescue effort.

Relatives of the 153 Chinese passengers on board the plane have become increasingly frustrated with the lack of information.

Wen Wancheng, whose 33-year-old son Wen Yongsheng was on the plane, told the BBC: "We think the Malaysian government is not doing enough work.

"The airline hasn't given us a satisfactory answer and the Malaysian officials are not here with us. If this situation continues, we will consider taking actions such as staging a protest."

New sports doping test '1,000 times more sensitive'

A knowledge of the limits of testing has helped many athletes avoid sanctions for doping.

US researchers have developed a new way to detect performance-enhancing drugs that they say is 1,000 times more sensitive than current tests.

In the laboratory, the new screen detected stimulants and steroids in minute concentrations.

The method is inexpensive and works with existing equipment, the scientists claim.

If validated, the test would significantly extend the time in which cheating athletes could be caught.

The research has been presented at a meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

Most testing for doping products uses a long-established technique called mass spectrometry.

This involves zapping urine samples with a beam of electrons that turns the atoms into charged particles.

These particles then travel through the spectrometer where they are weighed by a magnetic field.

As the scientists already know the weight of many steroids, for example, they are able to rapidly and accurately detect doping. But there are difficulties with this system.

Some byproducts of doping substances are so small and have a negative electrical charge that they may not produce a strong enough signal for detection.

Now chemists at the University of Texas in Arlington believe they have developed a method that builds on existing mass spectrometry techniques to detect these extremely small metabolites.

Doping has long been the scourge of some sports, including professional cycling
Called Paired Ion Electrospray Ionisation (PIESI), the system uses a chemical agent to bind to the minute pieces of steroid or amphetamine and make them more visible to the detector.

"It makes them much more detectable," Dr Daniel Armstrong, who led the research team, told BBC News.

"We're talking about parts per trillion, sub-parts per trillion - and the amazing thing is that it is so simple."

In laboratory tests, the system was able to detect steroids, stimulants, alcohol and depressants.

"We listed our sensitivity versus everything we found in the literature thus far, and that's where we got this 10-1,000 times more sensitive than anything else recorded, depending on the drug you are talking about," said Dr Armstrong.

As the key binding agent is commercially available, it should be relatively inexpensive to adapt existing detection methods, the researcher said. A variation of the method is already being used to detect minute amounts of industrial contaminants.

Open window

The new detection method would radically alter the detection window in which an athlete could be caught after taking these drugs.

This is a critical issue in the fight against doping. A detailed knowledge of the length of time a substance is detectable has been used by many cheating athletes and their scientific advisers to avoid being caught.

"With steroids, it's about two orders of magnitude, about 100 times more sensitive. We may be able to detect a steroid or something that's long-lived a couple of years after it was taken," said Dr Armstrong.

The new method wouldn't work for blood doping, nor would it detect human growth hormone, said the researchers.

The scientists will be submitting their work for peer review after the American Chemical Society meeting in Dallas.

While they have had many enquiries from reporters, so far they've had none from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the US anti-doping agency (USADA), or the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Ramsey & Cazorla renew Arsenal deals

Arsenal midfielders Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla have signed new long-term contracts with the London club.
Ramsey, 23, who scored 13 goals in 27 appearances before picking up a thigh injury in December, is expected to stay at the club until 2019.

Cazorla, 29, was voted Arsenal player of the year last season, is believed to have extended his deal until 2017.

"Cazorla and Ramsey are key players for us. This news is a boost to the whole club," said Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Gedion Zelalem, 17, has also been given a new deal follow his arrival at the club in January 2013.

Wales international Ramsey joined the club in 2008 from Cardiff in a £5m move. Since then, he has gone on to make 177 appearances for the club.
"I've been here for six years and I'm so happy," said Ramsey. "I think we've shown so far this season what we're all about and the direction that this club wants to go in.

"I want to be a part of that, and to be a part of something special at Arsenal."
Spain international Cazorla joined from Malaga in August 2012 for an undisclosed fee and last term made 49 appearances - more than any other Arsenal player.

"I have had a great time with the club since joining nearly two years ago, and I think that we can be a big player in competing for the top trophies in years to come and that's important for me," said Cazorla.

Zelalem, a German youth international, made his competitive debut in the 4-0 win over Coventry in January.
Wenger said: "Gedion is very young of course, but he has shown already that he has fantastic promise, and we all look forward to his development with us."

We are back where we belong - Mourinho

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho said his team returned to their rightful place in Europe after reaching the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Blues beat Galatasaray 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to win the tie 3-1.
But they became the first side to crash out at the group stage last season, having won the title the previous term.
"We are a Champions League club and now we are among the best eight, the best clubs in the world," said Mourinho. "The players deserve to be there."

After dropping out of last season's Champions League, Chelsea went on to win the Europa League and are now on course to win their third consecutive European trophy.

They could be the only English team to remain in the competition after first-half goals from Samuel Eto'o and Gary Cahill helped them cruise past a lacklustre Galatasaray side.

Manchester City and Arsenal have already been knocked out, while Manchester United trail by two goals ahead of Wednesday's last-16 tie against Olympiakos.

Mourinho added: "To come from the Europa League to the quarter-finals of the Champions League is important for the club, important for the players."
Prior to the last-16 draw, Mourinho expressed a desire to play Galatasaray so he could come up against former Blues striker Didier Drogba, but he has no preferences for Friday's quarter-final draw.

Chelsea could face Barcelona, Real Madrid, Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid, while Mourinho has not yet ruled Manchester United out of contention.

Mourinho said: "All the big candidates to win the competition. Welcome to any one of them. We wait for the draw. It doesn't matter who."

The Portuguese boss, who is seeking a third Champions League with a different club having won the title with Porto and Inter Milan, said prior to the game at Stamford Bridge that Drogba was still world class.

But the 36-year-old struggled on his return to west London as Eto'o eclipsed the Ivorian.

Mourinho added: "I think the most difficult thing [for Drogba] was the way his team played because if you are a striker and the team is not there playing behind you, then you are a lonely man - it has happened to every striker in the world, and tonight it happened to Didier."

Newcomer, Levi Miller, To Play the Title Role of Peter Pan in Warner Bros.’ film “Pan”

After an extensive search to find an actor between ages 10-12 who can play the role of Peter Pan in upcoming film "Pan", Warner Bros.' has finally found a perfect person for its lead role. Levi Miller, a novice young boy, has been selected to play the title role. He has joined a big cast of the film that includes Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard, Garrett Hedlund as Captain Hook, and Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily, along with Joe Wright, who is going to direct the film.

Jason Fuchs, who is known for comedy animation film Ice Age: Continental Drift, has been announced to write the script, while Greg Berlanti, Paul Webster and Sarah Schechter are going to serve as the producers.

Evidently intending to look for some comparatively unfamiliar young actor for the main role, Joe has chosen Miller, whose quite short work history regarding acting includes just a few shorts and one episode of short-lived sci-fi TV show "Terra Nova". If he proves to be a great choice for the main title role, this film can turn out to be a big breakthrough of his acting career.

Joe was searching a new talent who can live up to the role of Pan, going through a wide casting process and various auditions in the U.K. and also receiving open calls. After all the process, he considered Miller who could fit all the aspects related to Pan.

Set during World War II, Pan is a new take on J.M. Barrie's classic fiction, and revolves around Peter, a juvenile orphan who is abducted by pirates and carried to a mysterious world called Neverland, where he finds out he is actually chosen to assist the inhabitants and save the land from notorious pirate Blackbeard.

But, in this latest version of the story, according to some film plot details, Blackbeard turns out to be Peter's great nemesis in the end. However, it has not been confirmed yet. It maybe some rumor. The story is being shaped worldwide — and with a very unusual title lead hero as compared to past versions.

The film has been projected to release on July 17, 2015, that has been decided after Warner Bros. changed the release date of the Man Of Steel sequel.

So, what are your views about "Pan" cast members? Do you think Levi Miller is a great choice?

Rooney Mara Joins the Cast of Joe Wright's film “Pan” as Tiger Lily

Rooney Mara, who rose to fame from Mystery Thriller "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", has now been announced to play a lead role of tribal princess Tiger Lily in Joe Wright's upcoming film "Pan". The Warner Bros. studio went through an in-depth exploration in choosing the perfect actress to play Lily considering other renowned actresses like recently Oscar winner Lupita Nyonog'o and Adele Exarchopoulos prior to finally selecting Mara for the role.

Previously it was announced that Wolverine star Hugh Jackman signed a deal to play Blackbeard. Garrett Hedlund has been confirmed to play Captain Hook. The three main casts have been chosen now, but it has not been confirmed so far who will play the role of Peter Pan. However, it has been reported that production team is trying to find an actor between the ages of 10 and 12 for the role of Peter. Jason Fuchs, who is known for comedy animation film Ice Age: Continental Drift, has been announced to write the script.

The versatile actress Rooney has been engaging in quite autonomous characters in recent films. Besides her outstanding performance in current movies including Ain't Them Bodies Saints, Oscar nominated film "Her", and Terrence Malick's still-untitled Austin project, she has also teamed up with Todd Haynes for the film Carol together with this year's Best Actress Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett. Carol is based on Patricia Highsmith's novel "The Price of Salt" set in 1950s New York. Rooney has been assigned to play the juvenile a department-store clerk named Therese, who dreams of a better life but finds herself feeling attracted to Cate's dejected housewife character Carol Aird.

The movie "Pan" is already confirmed to be launched in cinemas on July 17, 2015 under the Warner Bros. banner. A lot of fans are already speculating how different storytelling this new version would have as compared to Barrie's "Peter Pan", Steven Spielberg's Hook and 2003's Peter Pan. Warner Bros. studio sees this as a film that can attract huge fan-base of classic novel based films like "Harry Potter" and "The Lord of the Rings".

Pop Queen Madonna Dressed as Daenerys Targaryen of ‘Game of Thrones’ to Celebrate Jewish Tradition

The pop queen, Madonna, who practices Kabbalah and is famous for exhibiting her apparently perpetual body in ever more stimulating costumes onstage, showed her Material Girl part for that of another (much heavenlier and loved) character from the most admired HBO TV show "Game Of Thrones". She dressed as Daenerys Targaryen (Mother of Dragons) to celebrate Jewish tradition Purim on Sunday, and shared her picture dressed as Daenerys on Social Media sites Twitter and Facebook.

"Happy Purim!!!!! All Hail All Queens! ##certainty," She wrote on Facebook with the picture of her with lengthy curly white-blond hair, trying to be like the banished crowned head of the Targaryen tribe. She put on a leather clasped corset and lacy top as she put on her locks in tangles over her upper body. Showing off brass bracelets on her wrists, the 55-year-old pop singer attained her 'Game of Thrones' character with 2 dragons statuettes on her shoulders.

From the Biblical Book of Esther, Purim honors the liberation of the Jewish natives in the prehistoric Persian realm where they were intrigued to be killed. So, to celebrate this day, Jewish people wear different costumes. It seems like Jewish version of Halloween. This even is perhaps particularly important for Madonna, as her Hebrew name is Esther. By her costume selection, it appears that Esther's judicious biblical book cross our mind.

The story describes how a beautiful Jewish deprived girl named Esther was selected to be the queen of the Persian realm. According to the Book of Esther, Mordecai and his cousin and espoused daughter Esther prevented the disaster. Purim is the yearly event to commemorate the victory.

Madonna - who like Esther, has created unique music and songs in the middle of various hindrances - has been fairly open regarding her devotion in the Jewish religion, typically her usual practice of Kabbalah - a type of Jewish spirituality. Even though she was raised Christian, she changed the religion to the spiritual Jewish faith system Kabbalah in 1997. She was attracted by the subsidiary of Judaism in the 1990s, and she had said that it was a means for her to manage her universal reputation.

In relation to her studies, she no longer performs on Friday night, owing to the fact that it is the start of Shabbat, and puts on a red string around her left wrist for safety and to fend off the 'Evil Eye.'

Mischa Barton Will Play Lead Role in Thriller ‘Hope Lost’ alongside Danny Trejo and Michael Madsen

Mischa Barton (The Sixth Sense, Notting Hill), Danny Trejo (Machete), Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill: Vol. 1) and Daniel Baldwin have been announced to play lead roles in sex-trafficking thriller "Hope Lost", which is projected to begin filming in Rome this month. Italian director David Petrucci will direct as well as produce the film. He is well-known for his inexpensive thriller "Canepazzo" ("Crazy Dog"), in which Franco Nero appeared as a lead character of a serial killer.

The story of "Hope Lost" centers on a character Sofia, which will be played by Mischa Barton, a juvenile Romanian who is bored with trivial urban life and dreams of having a sensational life filled with fame and money – a world that she observes on Italian soap operas. One night at a club she stumbles across a guy named Gabriele, who claims to be a film maker and offers her to appear in his reality TV show that he is filming in Italy. But when she agrees and reaches on target location, she is trapped into prostitution and coerced to make her living on the streets. She is later disposed of to a purchaser Ettore (Danny Trejo) by her pandar Manol (Michael Madsen). Ettore is a pervert who makes snuff films and makes her suffer along with another young girl.

Andrea Iervolino (known for "The Merchant of Venice") and Monika Bacardi have been announced to produce the film under the label of AMBI Pictures, which is opened in Rome in 2013 and created its own Beverly Hills-based global gross revenue entity. They are also working on another mega film project "The Humbling", which will be directed by Barry Levinson and includes Al Pacino as a lead character together with Mandy Patinkin, Kyra Sedgwick, Charles Grodin and Dianne Wiest. Set on a farm in upstate New York, the story of this film is based on the novel by Philip Roth and revolves around the relationship between an elderly, desperate actor and a younger woman.

The Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi currently completed action thriller "Sights of Death", starring Danny Glover (known for Lethal Weapon and 2012), Daryl Hannah (Kill Bill: Vol. 1, Blade Runner), Rutger Hauer (Batman Begins, Sin City), Stephen Baldwin (The Usual Suspects) and Michael Madsen.
