LIFESTYLE: Kanye West installs home surveillance

Kanye West has installed cameras throughout his home so he can keep an eye on his daughter.

The 37-year-old singer has reportedly angered wife Kim Kardashian after installing surveillance devices in every room in their Los Angeles home, including the bathroom, to keep track on 13-month-old North.

A source said:

"Kanye is very protective of North and he likes the idea of being able to check up on her while he's away touring, So he asked LA-based tech company VIA international to install high-tech cameras all over his house."

The source added:

"He can then have a live link to their home and watch what North is doing wherever he is in the world, Kanye has a clear idea in his mind of the way his daughter should be brought up, and wants to check his ideas are being put into action, but Kim isn't happy about the whole arrangement. She hates the idea of being watched all the time. She's told him that she feels he's being critical of her parenting."

The 37-year-old rapper has insisted to the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star that he isn't worried about her parenting, but wants to see his daughter as much as possible.

The source said:

"He's reassured Kim that he's just installed the cameras because he misses North so much but it's already causing a rift between them."

The Bound 2 rapper is said to have clear ideas on how North should be spending her days and wants to ensure his "influence" is present even when he is on the road.

The source went on to say to the Daily Star newspaper:

"Kanye is insisting that North has structure and routine in her life. He wants her to play with educational toys and do baby yoga or swimming every day."

"He's even told Kim to make sure that she's playing with other children at least four times a week, Kanye just likes the idea of being able to have an influence on her life, even when he is thousands of miles away."

"He'll be away working a lot for the rest of the year and worries about not being kept in the loop."

SPORTS NEWS: Rules for election to Hall of Fame amended

(Reuters) - The time retired players can remain on writers' ballots for the Baseball Hall of Fame has been reduced from 15 to 10 years, officials said on Saturday.

A new balloting process for Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA) members who vote also has been installed, requiring a run of 10 consecutive years on the baseball beat to qualify for voting.

The changes, effective immediately, will be reflected in 2015 Hall of Fame voting.

"The board is committed to keeping the policies and voting procedures of the Hall of Fame relevant," Jane Forbes Clark, chairman of the board of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y., said in a statement.

"The board believes these changes are necessary to ensure the integrity of the voting process moving forward."

Candidates for Hall of Fame election who do not win election by the baseball writers move to the Era Committee system for review in perpetuity.

Three candidates presently on the BBWAA ballot in years 10 to 15 - Don Mattingly, Alan Trammell and Lee Smith - will be grandfathered into the system and remain under consideration for up to 15 years by the writers group, which is independent of the Hall of Fame.

Of the 211 players enshrined in the Hall of Fame, 115 have been elected by the writers group, with all but 13 in the first 10 years of eligibility, and 96 by Veterans Committees.

SHOCKING NEWS: Boko Haram extend their hunt by Kidnaps Cameroon’s Vice Prime Minister’s Wife?

Three other people were killed while the wife of Cameroon's vice prime minister was kidnapped in an attack by Boko Haram militants in the northern town of Kolofata on Sunday, Cameroon officials said.

A local religious leader, or lamido, named Seini Boukar Lamine, who is also the town's mayor, was kidnapped as well, in a separate attack on his home.

Boko Haram stepped up cross-border attacks into Cameroon in recent weeks as Cameroon deployed troops to the region, joining international efforts to combat the militants.

Issa Tchiroma told Reuters by telephone:

"I can confirm that the home of Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali in Kolofata came under a savage attack from Boko Haram militants. They unfortunately took away his wife. They also attacked the lamido's residence and he was also kidnapped."

A Cameroon military commander in the region told Reuters that the vice prime minister, who was at home to celebrate the Muslim feast of Ramadan with his family, was taken to a neighbouring town by security officials.

"The situation is very critical here now, and as I am talking to you the Boko Haram elements are still in Kolofata town in a clash with our soldiers," said Colonel

Felix Nji Formekong, the second commander of Cameroon's third inter-army military region, based in the regional headquarters Maroua.

The Sunday attack is the third Boko Haram attack into Cameroon since Friday. At least four soldiers were killed in the previous attacks. Meanwhile, some 22 suspected Boko Haram militants, who have been held in Maroua since March, were on Friday sentenced to prison sentences ranging from 10 to 20 years. It was unclear whether the events are related.

BASKETBALL SPORTS NEWS: Love latest to pull out from USA team

(Reuters) - Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves became the third NBA player in recent weeks to withdraw from consideration for Team USA in next month's World Cup, USA Basketball said on Saturday.

The power forward, a member of the gold-medal winning 2012 U.S. Olympic team, is rumored to be heading to a new NBA team, with the Cavaliers, Bulls and Warriors all striving to swing a trade with Minnesota.

The 6-10 Love, a three-time NBA All-Star who averaged 26.1 points, 12.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists last season, informed USA Basketball that because of his current status he would be unavailable to play for the national team this summer.

"Our job is to get the job done with our very, very deep roster, and we're anxious to get things started," USA Basketball chief Jerry Colangelo said in a statement.

Training camp starts on Monday in Las Vegas.

On Friday, Washington Wizards guard John Wall was added to the pool of players competing for a berth on the U.S. team after the withdrawal of Clippers power forward Blake Griffin.

Griffin's withdrawal followed a decision by guard Russell Westbrook to step aside as he works to rebound from an injury-hit NBA season with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

USA Basketball and head coach Mike Krzyzewski, who has steered the U.S. team to the past two Olympic gold medals, will still have a wealth of candidates to choose from.

Players expected at the Las Vegas training camp include: DeMarcus Cousins (Kings); Stephen Curry (Warriors); Anthony Davis (Pelicans); Kevin Durant (Thunder); Paul George (Pacers); James Harden (Rockets), Kyrie Irving (Cavaliers) and Derrick Rose (Bulls).

USA Basketball will be selecting a team to defend their 2010 world title at the World Cup in Spain beginning on Aug. 30.

They are aiming to become only the third team after Brazil (1959 and 1963) and Yugoslavia (1998 and 2002) to win back-to-back world titles.

GOLF SPORTS NEWS: Furyk leads by three as local hopes fade at Canadian Open

(Reuters) - American Jim Furyk moved closer to ending a personal winless streak of nearly four years when he earned a three-shot lead after the third round at the Canadian Open in Montreal on Saturday.

But a much longer national drought is likely to continue after Canadian hope Graham DeLaet three-putted the final hole to fall seven strokes from the lead on the Royal Montreal Blue Course.

No Canadian has won the country's national open since English-born Pat Fletcher in 1954, and it has been 100 years since the last Canadian-born player triumphed.

That was of no concern to Furyk, who extended his bogey-free stretch to 50 holes as he plotted his way to a five-under-par 65.

He was not at his very sharpest, but displayed a deft short game to post a 15-under 195 total, while South African Tim Clark, boosted by an unlikely eagle at the par-four second, carded a 64 to vault into second place on 12-under.

Furyk, a 16-time PGA Tour winner, will join illustrious company if he wins on Sunday and becomes just the fifth player to win the Canadian Open three times since the event's inception in 1904.

But the 2006 and 2007 champion will be mindful that he has let several good chances slip away since his most recent tour victory, at the 2010 Tour Championship, posting five runner-up finishes in the ensuing period.

"I'll try not to really focus on where I stand," he told PGATour.com. "I just need to worry about my own game and take from the last three days how well I've played and basically try to do the same things tomorrow."

Clark, meanwhile, made an ideal start with a birdie at the first hole, before holing out from 50 yards at the next.

He emitted a groan after hitting the shot, clearly unhappy with his contact, but had no complaints about the outcome.

"I just thought I'd flown it about a foot too far and it actually landed right where I wanted," Clark said. "Once it hit the ground it didn't look like missing."

Clark later came within a few inches of a hole-in-one at the par-three 13th, but had to settle for a tap-in birdie.

While Clark vaulted into contention, DeLaet (70) started the day two strokes from the lead and battled to remain in contact, much to the disappointment of the large gallery.

He had a good birdie chance at the last, only to three-putt from inside 10 feet after stroking his first putt four feet beyond the hole.

"I really wanted to make that birdie and got a little aggressive," said the world number 38, who has not won on tour.

"I'm just going to give it my best tomorrow and I've got 35 million people rooting me on."

TENNIS SPORTS NEWS: Isner in Atlanta final for fourth time in five years

(Reuters) - Top seed John Isner has continued his love affair with the Atlanta Open by powering his way into the final for the fourth time in five years on Saturday.

The American will meet Israeli Dudi Sela on the hardcourt in Atlanta on Sunday, after dominating on serve to beat compatriot Jack Sock 7-5 6-4 in an afternoon semi-final.

The defending champion dropped only two points on first serve to wear down Sock, who became increasingly frustrated as the match progressed in searing heat, at one stage arguing with the umpire after a line call was reversed on replay.

"It was not easy conditions at all in the heat today," Isner said. "I thought I played pretty well. Jack is a really good player. I wanted to win that match."

The world number 12 clearly feels at home in the state where he went to college at the University of Georgia.

But the first set almost slipped away when Sock had a break point at 5-5, only to hit the tape with a backhand down the line.

Buoyed by the reprieve, Isner finally broke serve to take the set in the next game, a 14-minute marathon as Wimbledon doubles champion Sock staved off two set points.

The first nine games of the second set went with serve before Sock frittered away a 30-0 lead in the 10th game.

He saved two match points, before double-faulting on the third to hand Isner victory.

The towering North Carolina native has won eight ATP titles, his most recent in Auckland in January.

He has a 2-0 career head-to-head record against world number 94 Sela, who beat German Benjamin Becker 6-3 3-6 6-3 in the night semi-final.

The Israeli has qualified for only his second ATP final, six years after his first in Beijing, and will bid for his maiden title at the age of 29.

SPORTS NEWS: Rockies give out shirts honoring Tulowitzki - but spell his name wrong

(Reuters) - Ebay may soon heat up with searches for baseball jerseys honoring Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, after his own team managed to spell the top hitter's name wrong.

The team gave out 15,000 of the shirts to fans attending a home game at Coors Field in Denver on Saturday, spelling as "Tulowizki" the name of the player tied for first for the highest batting average in Major League Baseball.

Some of the jerseys with the misspelled name were already bid up to more than $40 just a few hours after being offered on the eBay auction site.

One listing described the item as "wrapped in plastic to preserve this wonderful mistake," with the added exhortation: "Own this piece of epic fail history!"

Other sellers were offering the shirt for as much as $300. By comparison, Tulowitzki shirts - with the correct spelling - can be purchased on the site for as little as $11.99.

Fans posted pictures on the Internet of themselves or friends all wearing the already-notorious shirts.

The Rockies posted an apology on the team's Facebook page, saying they decided to go ahead and hand out the jerseys "acknowledging that many fans came to the game for the jersey" and not wanting to disappoint them.

Fans who wanted to exchange the blooper jerseys will be able to do so in September and will also receive a free ticket to a Rockies game, the team said.

Tulowitzki, who is batting .340, leads the Rockies in home runs with 21 this season and is tied for 10th in the Major Leagues in that category.

Not everything came out wrong on Saturday for the Rockies, currently in last place in the National League's Western Division. By a score of 8-1, they defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates.

BUSINESS NEWS: Murdoch's Fox open to giving Time Warner board seats in new bid: Bloomberg

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox is open to giving Time Warner Inc shareholders seats on the new company's board if its takeover bid succeeds, Bloomberg reported on Saturday, citing people familiar with the situation.

Board representation could appear in a revised proposal, Bloomberg cited one of the people as saying. It did not say how many board seats were being considered and added the two sides are not currently in negotiations.

Time Warner's board rejected Murdoch's $80 billion takeover offer earlier this month, but the Fox chairman and chief executive officer is expected to continue the pursuit.

Bloomberg said the offer of board seats as part of an increased bid could help allay concerns of Time Warner investors about the dual-class stock structure that gives control to Murdoch, 83, and his family.

Nathaniel Brown, a spokesman for New York-based Fox, and Keith Cocozza, a spokesman for Time Warner, declined to comment on whether the companies have discussed board seats, Bloomberg said.

Mario Gabelli, one of Time Warner's longest standing shareholders, said in an interview with Bloomberg last week that Murdoch should offer Time Warner investors a couple of board seats.

In a deal announced Friday, Britain's BSkyB agreed to pay $9 billion to buy Murdoch's pay-TV companies in Germany and Italy. Fox is expected to use the proceeds to fuel its pursuit of Time Warner.

BUSINESS NEWS: Tyson Foods to shut three factories, cut 950 jobs

(The third paragraph quote in this July 25 story has been corrected to make timeline clear)

(Reuters) - Tyson Foods Inc (TSN.N) said it will discontinue operations at three of its factories which make processed meat products such as sausages and hot dogs, affecting about 950 people.

The largest U.S. meat processor, which won the bidding war for Hillshire Brands Co (HSH.N) in June, said the closures were not related to the acquisition.

"The closings were under consideration long before our decision to pursue Hillshire Brands", Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson told Reuters.

Tyson outbid Pilgrim's Pride Corp (PPC.O) with its $63 per share offer for Hillshire, valuing the Jimmy Dean sausages maker at $8.55 billion.

The closures were due to changing product needs, an aging Cherokee, Iowa factory and the distance of the Buffalo, New York and Santa Teresa, New Mexico plants from their raw material supply base, the company said on Friday.

"The consolidation helps them get transportation efficiencies," Chris Hurt, an agricultural economist with Purdue University, said.

The number of beef cattle in the United States is at its lowest level in 63 years due to severe droughts, reducing the amount of meat available to process.

The Cherokee factory will close on Sep. 27, while the other two are expected to stop operating in the first half of 2015.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration had cited the Buffalo factory for workplace safety hazards last November and proposed fines of about $122,000.

Tyson contested the citations and settled the case in May, agreeing to pay $105,000 in fines.

The closures will affect 450 employees at Cherokee, 300 at Buffalo and 200 at Santa Teresa. The company had about 115,000 employees as of last September.

Shares of the company, which will report quarterly results on Monday, were little changed at $39.49 in extended trading on Friday.

BUSINESS NHTSA probes air bag software on older Chevrolet Impalas

DETROIT (Reuters) - U.S. safety regulators are investigating the potential for air bags to fail because of software issues in older Chevrolet Impala sedans made by General Motors Co (GM.N), after receiving a consumer complaint about an alleged incident in Texas.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Friday that it has opened a probe into about 320,000 Impalas from model year 2008, but would also look at 2007 and 2009 models.

GM has recalled nearly 15 million vehicles this year, including the Impala, for ignition switch issues that could cause air bags to fail in a crash.

One of the recalls, in June, included Impalas from model years 2006-2014. In a July 2 letter to NHTSA, GM said a heavy key ring on those cars could pull the ignition key out of the run position, which could shut off the engine and cut power to steering and air bags.

NHTSA's new investigation of the 2008 Impala involved a separate issue. It was in response to a November 2013 petition by Donald Friedman, a principal in a California research firm and an expert witness in product liability litigation, on behalf of an elderly couple involved in a crash of a 2008 Impala in Texas.

After receiving additional information this year from Friedman and reviewing its own crash databases, NHTSA said it opened the probe "in an abundance of caution."

Friedman asked NHTSA specifically to investigate the software that controls passenger-side air bag deployment in a crash on all 2004-2010 GM models.

In the Texas crash, the driver's air bag deployed, but the front passenger's did not. Both occupants were injured, according to Friedman's complaint.

BUSINESS NEWS: Audi cuts spare-part prices in China amid anti-monopoly probe

SHANGHAI/BEIJING (Reuters) - Volkswagen AG's premium brand Audi said it would cut spare-part prices in China as global automakers rush to change their pricing strategies after Chinese anti-monopoly regulators began probing the auto industry.

The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China's state planner, is investigating the industry amid domestic media complaints that foreign carmakers, using a dominant market position, are overcharging Chinese customers on products and spare parts.

"As a premium market leader Audi has made the price adjustments proactively," Audi said in an emailed statement over the weekend, adding the new prices will be effective Aug 1. "Audi and its joint venture FAW-Volkswagen support the efforts of the NDRC to examine the pricing in the after-sales area in China."

The announcement by Volkswagen's (VOWG_p.DE) Audi came on the heels of a move by British luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover to cut prices on three models in China in response to the NDRC's probe.

Earlier this month, Daimler AG's premium brand Mercedes-Benz cut service charges and spare-part prices in China by as much as 20 percent.

China is stepping up efforts to bring companies in compliance with an anti-monopoly law enacted in 2008. In recent years, it has targeted industries ranging from drugmakers and milk powder producers to jewelers and technology firms.

The NDRC, which regulates pricing activities, has handed down record fines over the past year to a number of multinational companies including Mead Johnson Nutrition Co and Danone SA.

A senior NDRC official said in February that the pricing regulator was collecting evidence of possible anti-competitive behavior by the country's auto parts market.

The government has also been collecting information on whether there's monopolistic behavior by automakers in the country's vehicle market.

'LOCALIZATION MEASURES'

If Chinese regulators determine that there are anti-competitive practices in the car industry, it's not clear whether the price cuts foreign automakers are making could help them avoid penalties.

A separate statement on Audi's China website quoted an NDRC official as saying the regulator "welcomes global brands such as Audi to voluntarily make corrective measures, and hope other companies can also review their operations and actively take measures to comply with the Chinese law."

Audi said that localization measures and economies of scale allow it to "adjust" the prices for spare parts in China and pass these "cost advantages" onto customers.

Audi did not provide details of the price cuts, but said they reduce the total cost of spare parts for an Audi A6L by about 30 percent.

Foreign automakers have been frequently criticized by local media for charging Chinese customers more than those in other markets pay.

Audi, Subaru and Jaguar Land Rover were singled out in a December report by China's state television that accused foreign carmakers of over-charging in the after-sales market where services and spare parts are sold.

BUSINESS Argentine default looms as time runs out for debt deal

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) - Argentina looks set to default on its debt for the second time in 12 years next Thursday as negotiations with "holdout" investors seemingly go nowhere and neither side shows signs of blinking first, though a last minute deal can't be discounted.

Latin America's No. 3 economy has for years fought the holdout hedge funds which snapped up its junk bonds after its $100 billion default in 2002 and then refused the restructuring terms, suing for repayment in full.
Ai
But time is up. After a slew of legal setbacks for Argentina in U.S. courts, the country has just days to comply with a 2012 ruling by U.S. District Judge Thomas Griesa to pay $1.33 billion plus interest to the funds it calls "vultures."

If the deadlock persists, Griesa will prevent Argentina from making a July 30 deadline for a coupon payment on exchanged bonds, triggering a new default just as the economy struggles with recession, dwindling reserves and soaring inflation.

"The outcome is still uncertain, with just days before a technical default is triggered," said analyst Mauro Roca of Goldman Sachs. "A deal now seems unlikely."

Unlike Argentina's 2001-2 debt crisis when it was broke and could not pay its civil servants, this time around the country is solvent but prevented by Griesa from servicing its bonds until the battle with the holdouts is resolved.

Argentina's combative stance has upped the odds of a default. Efforts to find a solution through a mediator have made scant progress, with one of the lead holdouts saying the government had made clear "it will be choosing default".

Argentina's president, Cristina Fernandez, has not minced words, branding the holdouts extortionists and lambasting the judge for a ruling she says is unjust.

The government argues a deal with the holdouts would leave it at risk of breaking the so-called RUFO clause which bars it from voluntarily offering better terms to investors than what it gave in the bond swaps accepted by 92.4 percent of creditors. RUFO stands for "rights upon future offers."

With the RUFO clause set to expire on Dec. 31, Argentina wants a stay on Griesa's ruling to allow negotiations without risking claims from exchange bondholders that the government estimates could hit $400 billion. So far, the judge has refused.

MESSY OR CLEAN

A high-stakes game of poker is playing out. Griesa's ruling prohibits Argentina from servicing its restructured debt until it settles with the holdouts.

If neither side flinches, Argentina will default as of July 31. Although it will have sufficient finances to service its foreign currency restructured debt, worth $35 billion, it will be unable to get payments to creditors outside Argentina.

A default won't send shockwaves through the global economy: Argentina is already isolated from international capital markets. How much pain it causes at home will depend on how quickly Argentina can extricate itself from the mess.

That will largely be determined by whether Argentina persuades bondholders it is ready to negotiate a swift settlement after the Dec. 31 expiration of the RUFO clause.

If it can, there is less chance of a so-called "acceleration" demand by bondholders for early payment. Bondholders might then simply have to wait a few months for their payments.

In this scenario, Argentina's banishment from global markets would remain and borrowing costs for Argentine companies and provinces would rise.

"We'd likely see higher yields, which is bad for the investment environment, and a default could spark some capital outflows which would start putting a strain on the currency again," said David Rees at London-based Capital Economics.

That would likely push Argentines to increase their dollar holdings, weakening a peso already down 20 percent so far this year on the official rate and putting more pressure on foreign reserves that are at five months' import cover.

Siobhan Morden, head of Latin America strategy at Jefferies in New York, said there was the "risk of worse stagflation". Inflation is privately estimated at above 30 percent.

Farmers in the world's No. 3 soybean exporter say they will hoard the oilseed in the event of a default, potentially pushing global food prices higher in the short run.

However, if more than 25 percent of holders of exchanged bonds call on Argentina to "accelerate" the payments, the country will become mired in a far messier default that will take longer to clean up.

Argentina could restructure its bonds under local legislation to circumvent the U.S. court ruling, though this is seen as unlikely, analysts say. Alternatively, it could offer a new bond swap, still under foreign legislations - a scenario that would likely have to include holdouts if Argentina ever hopes to tap international markets again.

In the interim, financial pressure would grow as debt servicing costs more than double in 2015 and reserves fall to critically low levels.

"If this stretches into next year when you have a $6 billion maturity on the Boden15s ... that becomes problematic to finance," said Stuart Culverhouse, head of research at Exotix, a frontier markets broker in London.

Culverhouse estimated that reserves, already at eight-year lows of about $29 billion, could sink to about $10 billion. "That's where they were in 2001 at one point. It's a bad place to be."

DEAL REMOTE, STILL NO PANACEA

Analysts said Argentina could still pull a rabbit out the hat.

Griesa could still suspend his ruling to avert a default - a scenario he described as "the worse thing I can envision".

Holdouts would need to request the stay and would likely ask Argentina for a guarantee, possibly financial, it would negotiate from January once the RUFO clause had expired.

"There is probably more for plaintiffs to lose than to gain from a default," said Alejo Costa, strategy chief at local investment bank Puente.

"If Argentina defaults, they don't know what is happening and might have to go through another lengthy legal process."

How the holdouts act may depended on how many credit default swaps protecting them against default they hold. They could elect to cash in on those now and hunker down for an even longer legal fight, or take a negotiated deal and move on.

A stay is seen having little effect on an economy analysts already forecast to contract by about 1 percent.

On Friday, Argentine debt negotiators left mediator Daniel Pollack's office after just one hour, pouring more cold water on hopes for a deal, which now seems the least likely outcome.

Even if Argentina does pull off a deal, it will come too late to haul the economy out of recession this year.

"But maybe it makes for a stronger growth prospect next year, if anything because you're lifting consumer confidence, you're easing some of the exchange rate pressures," said Culverhouse of Exotix. "But there will be a delay in getting this resolved and new foreign investment."

TOP NEWS: Fighting complicates Ukraine crash probe, U.S., EU prepare Russia sanctions

DONETSK Ukraine (Reuters) - A Ukrainian push to dislodge pro-Russian rebels from the site of the downed Malaysian airliner further complicated plans for an investigation on Sunday as Europe and the United States prepared economic sanctions on Russia over the conflict.

Russia dismissed U.S. allegations it was about to hand over more missiles to the separatists, who Western leaders say almost certainly shot the airliner down by mistake with a Russian-supplied surface-to-air missile.

The separatists deny any involvement and Moscow says it has not supplied them, suggesting Ukrainian forces were to blame.

Washington said on Friday another transfer from Russia to Ukrainian separatists, this time of heavy-caliber multiple-launch rocket systems, appeared to be imminent and that Russian forces were slowly building up along the Ukrainian border.

The allegations coincided with preparations in Western capitals for tougher sanctions against Russia.

Members of the European Union, wary of the impact of broad penalties on their own economies, were expected to try to reach a final deal on Tuesday on measures including closing the bloc's capital markets to Russian state banks, an embargo on arms sales and restrictions on dual-use and energy technologies.

The EU added new names on Friday to its list of individuals and companies facing travel bans and asset freezes over their alleged involvement in Ukraine and could agree to extend the list further as early as Monday.

Washington, which has taken the lead in imposing individual and corporate penalties on Russia, said on Friday it was likely to follow up on any new EU move with more sanctions of its own.

A Russian defense ministry spokesman, cited by Russian news agencies, did not address the latest U.S. allegations directly, but said that over the past four months 18 international inspections had not found any evidence of Russian military violations on the border with Ukraine.

FIGHTING

Fighting around the site of the downed Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 prevented a visit by international experts on Sunday, although Malaysia said separatists had agreed to allow in international police and investigators.

The Ukrainian government said its forces were advancing toward the crash site to try to free it from the rebels, who have impeded the work of international monitors and whom Kiev accuses of tampering with evidence pointing to who shot it down.

"All our troops are aiming to get there and liberate this territory so that we can guarantee that international experts can carry out a 100-percent investigation of the site and get all proof needed to deduce the real reason for this tragedy," said Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for Ukraine's Security Council.

International monitors said the fighting itself could affect the crash site, underlining the growing complexity of trying to establish who shot down the plane.

In Donetsk, Alexander Hug, deputy head for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's monitoring mission in Ukraine, said monitors would not visit the site on Sunday.

"The situation on the ground appears to be unsafe ... we therefore decided to deploy tomorrow morning," Hug, flanked by Dutch and Australian experts, told reporters.

"Fighting in the area will most likely affect (the) crash site," Hug said.

The separatists are still in control of the area where the plane was shot down earlier this month but fighting in the wider eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk has been heavy as Ukrainian government forces try to dislodge them. It was raging in at least five different places on Sunday.

Lysenko said government troops were advancing east from the town of Makievka toward another town of Shakhtarsk, nearby the crash site. Shakhtarsk residents said air strikes hit the city.

"Our military is advancing, fighting goes on every day, every night, they have already liberated two-thirds of the territory," Lysenko told a news conference in Kiev.

AGREEMENT

Earlier, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said an agreement reached with separatist leader Aleksander Borodai would "provide protection for international crash investigators" to recover human remains and ascertain the cause of the crash.

The OSCE has provided a team to monitor the site in advance of an investigation, but Najib said a full team of investigators was needed to ensure any human remains left there were removed.

"We also need a full deployment of investigators to have unfettered access to the crash site so we can understand precisely what happened to MH17. I hope that this agreement with Mr Borodai will ensure security on the ground, so the international investigators can conduct their work," he said.

"Three grieving nations", Malaysia, Australia and the Netherlands, had formed a police group to secure the site, he said in a statement issued by his office.

Among the 298 people who died aboard the Boeing 777 on its flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur on July 17 were 193 Dutch nationals, 43 Malaysians and 28 Australians.

TIME TO PROCEED

Najib said on Saturday the separatists had fulfilled two of three conditions of a earlier deal struck - the return of victims' bodies and of the plane's two "black boxes" - and it was now time to proceed with the investigation.

Malaysian experts have said they believe at least 30 investigators will be required to cover the full site of the crash, in addition to Dutch investigators and an expert from the United Nations' civil aviation body, the ICAO.

In the Australian capital Canberra, Prime Minister Tony Abbott said an unarmed police mission led by the Netherlands and made up of about 49 officers would travel to the site. Officials said a total of 170 Australian police were deployed in Ukraine.

"Our objective is to get in, to get cracking and to get out," Abbott, who has played a leading role in pressing for an investigation, told reporters in Canberra.

"This is a risky mission, no doubt about that, but all the professional advice I have is that the safest way to conduct it is unarmed, as part of a police-led, humanitarian mission."

Abbott said the force, including 11 Australians, would stay "as long as we can to do a thorough job" but he expected it would be no longer than three weeks.

TOP NEWS: Investors pin growth hopes on U.S. as Ukraine crisis casts shadow on Europe

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - With the prospect of stiffer sanctions against Russia rattling confidence in Europe, investors will be looking to the United States and China to underpin the global economy.

Wednesday's U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) reading and jobs data on Friday will help markets to judge the strength of the economy's rebound and the likely speed of the Federal Reserve's return to more conventional monetary policy. The Fed meets on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"The U.S.-China story is looking more encouraging," said James Knightley, an economist with ING. "With the European Central Bank's moves, that should allow the euro zone economy to swing upwards but with a good six- to 12-month lag."

In Europe, the downing of a Malaysia Airlines airliner over eastern Ukraine has left countries such as Germany with little choice but to change their long-passive stance and impose tougher sanctions on Moscow over the role of pro-Russian separatists.

Early this week, European Union ambassadors are expected to meet to finalize sanctions that could include closing EU capital markets to state-owned Russian banks, placing an embargo on arms sales and restricting supply of energy technology.

Globally, such sanctions would bite hardest in Europe, where Russia does most trade, compounding economic problems not only for Russia but throughout the region.

The International Monetary Fund has already flagged the 'chilling effect' on investment in Russia of sanctions as it pared back its forecast for global economic growth last week.

Confidence amongst businesses in Germany, which accounts for more than one quarter of all exports across the European Union, has dipped further since the plane crash.

"The situation is very dangerous," said Michael Heise, chief economist of Allianz, one of the globe's largest fund investors.

"An escalation carries large risks for the economy," he said, cautioning in particular of the knock to confidence. "There is a big risk from further sanctions although one has to accept that clear (diplomatic) signals are needed."

BOUNCE-BACK

The crisis comes at a delicate moment for the 18 countries using the euro, where a fledgling recovery is losing pace. Investors will get a snapshot of the bloc's inflation rate, which has sunk well below the European Central Bank's target, on Thursday.

With Britain, one of the stronger European economies, caught up in the push for mutually painful sanctions against Russia, economic growth prospects hinge on the United States and China.

"We think there is going to be a bounce-back in (U.S.) gross domestic product," said ING's Knightley. The Reuters consensus shows annualized growth picking up to 3 percent in the April-June quarter.

Data from Beijing is expected to confirm China's economy picked up in July after government moves to boost lending to business, such as reducing the amount of cash banks must hold in reserve.

China's economy grew at 7.5 percent in the second quarter. But the drags on growth, including a downturn in property prices and high local government debts, are similar to those in Europe.

Analysts believe that deeper reforms, such as overhauling giant state companies, will be needed in the long term to keep the economy growing at the pace the authorities want.

That keeps the focus on U.S. Federal Reserve and how fast it will run down the stimulus that has pumped cheap money around the world, prompting investors to take increasing risks.

The Fed gathers on Tuesday for its two-day meeting but no change of course is expected yet.

Earlier this month, Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen signaled that she would keep the central bank's purse strings loose until the effects of the financial crisis are "completely gone."

But some analysts say the central bank may be forced to take a stricter approach to avoid pumping up market bubbles.

"People worry that the Fed may raise interest rates earlier than expected," Nie Wen, an analyst with Hwabao Trust in Shanghai, told Reuters. He predicts a rise in interest rates as soon as early next year.

Michael Heise of Allianz warns that keeping money too cheap for too long carries a major risk.

"If the central banks stay too accommodative for too long, you can have a boom ... and it can come to a massive correction."

In a reminder of the delicate balance facing financial policymakers, Argentina will seek next week to reach agreement with investors suing the country for full repayment of their bonds.

President Cristina's Fernandez's unflinching stance would appear to indicate that the country will go down to the wire. If talks fail, Argentina faces its second default in 12 years.

TOP NEWS: Fighting in Gaza abates, but truce hopes look fragile

GAZA/JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Fighting subsided in Gaza on Sunday after Hamas Islamist militants said they backed a 24-hour humanitarian truce, but there was no sign of any comprehensive deal to end their conflict with Israel.

Hamas said it had endorsed a call by the United Nations for a pause in the fighting in light of the upcoming Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, expected to start in the next couple of days.

Some firing had continued after the time that Hamas had announced it would put its guns aside and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu questioned the validity of the truce.

"Hamas doesn't even accept its own ceasefire, it's continuing to fire at us as we speak," he said in an interview with CNN, adding that Israel would "take whatever action is necessary to protect our people".

Nonetheless, Gaza Strip residents and Reuters witnesses said Israeli shelling and Hamas missile launches had slowly quietened down through the afternoon, suggesting a de-facto truce might be taking shape as an international efforts to broker a permanent ceasefire appeared to flounder.

However, Israel's military has said it will need more time to destroy a warren of tunnels that criss-cross the Gaza border that it says is one of its main objectives.

Israel and the Hamas Islamists who control Gaza had agreed to a 12-hour ceasefire on Saturday to allow Palestinians to stock up on supplies and retrieve bodies from under the rubble.

Netanyahu's cabinet voted to extend the truce until midnight on Sunday at the request of the United Nations, but called it off when Hamas launched rockets into Israel during the morning.

Palestinian medics said at least 10 people had died in the wave of subsequent strikes that swept Gaza, including a Christian woman, Jalila Faraj Ayyad, whose house in Gaza City was struck by an Israeli bomb.

Some 1,060 Palestinians, mainly civilians and including many children, have been killed in the 20-day conflict. Israel says 43 of its soldiers have died, along with three civilians killed by rocket and mortar fire out of the Mediterranean enclave.

DIPLOMATIC BLOCK

Israel launched its Gaza offensive on July 8, saying its aim was to halt rocket attacks by Hamas and its allies.

After aerial and naval bombardment failed to quell the outgunned guerrillas, Israel poured ground forces into the Gaza Strip 10 days later, looking to knock out Hamas's rocket stores and destroy the vast network of tunnels.

The army says its drive to find and eliminate tunnels would continue through any temporary truce.

Diplomatic efforts led by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to end the 20-day conflict have shown little sign of progress. Israel and Hamas have set conditions that appear irreconcilable.

Hamas wants an end to the Israeli-Egyptian economic blockade of Gaza before agreeing to halt hostilities. Israel has signaled it could make concessions toward that end, but only if Gaza's militant groups are stripped of their weapons.

"Hamas must be permanently stripped of its missiles and tunnels in a supervised manner," Economy Minister Naftali Bennett said, "In return we will agree to a host of economic alleviations," the security cabinet member said on Facebook.

Kerry flew back to Washington overnight after spending most of the week in Egypt trying to bridge the divide, putting forward some written proposals to Israel on Friday.

Speaking off the record, cabinet ministers described his plan as "a disaster", saying it met all Hamas demands, such as lifting the Israeli-Egyptian blockade completely and ignored Israeli terms, such as stripping Hamas of its rockets.

There was no immediate comment from U.S. officials.

The obvious rancor added yet difficult chapter to the already strained relations between Netanyahu and Kerry, whose energetic drive to broker a definitive peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians ended in acrimony in April.

DESTRUCTION

The main U.N. agency in Gaza, UNRWA, said 167,269 displaced Palestinians have taken shelter in the organization's schools and buildings, following repeated calls by Israel for civilians to evacuate whole neighborhoods ahead of military operations.

During the lull in fighting inside Gaza on Saturday, residents flooded into the streets to discover scenes of massive destruction in some areas, including Beit Hanoun in the north and Shejaia in the east.

An Israeli official said the army hoped the widespread desolation would persuade Gazans to put pressure on Hamas to stop the fighting for fear of yet more devastation.

The Israeli military says its forces have uncovered more than 30 tunnels in Gaza, with some of the burrows reaching into Israeli territory and designed to launch surprise attacks on Jewish communities along the border.

The military said on Sunday it found a tunnel that led directly into the dining room of an Israeli kibbutz.

Other underground passages, the military says, serve as weapons caches and Hamas bunkers. One official said troops had found it easier to operate during the truce as the immediate threat to their safety was diminished.

The Gaza turmoil has stoked tensions amongst Palestinians in mainly Arab East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank.

Medics said eight Palestinians were killed on Friday in incidents near the West Bank cities of Nablus and Hebron - the sort of death toll reminiscent of previous uprisings against Israel's prolonged military rule there.

The violence has sparked protests outside the region.

Demonstrators in London marched from the Israeli embassy to the House of Parliament in Whitehall, blocking traffic throughout the West End. French police clashed with pro-Palestinian protesters defied a ban by authorities to march in central Paris

TOP NEWS More than 50 killed in Benghazi, Tripoli clashes

BENGHAZI, Libya (Reuters) - At least 36 people were killed in Libya's eastern city of Benghazi, many of them civilians, in clashes between Libyan Special Forces and Islamist militants on Saturday night and Sunday morning, medical and security sources said.

Another 23 people, all Egyptian workers, were killed in the capital Tripoli when a rocket hit their home on Saturday during clashes between rival militias battling over the city's main airport, the Egyptian state news agency reported.

In the last two weeks, Libya has descended into its deadliest violence since the 2011 war that ousted Muammar Gaddafi, prompting the United States, the United Nations and Turkey to pull diplomats out of the North African country.

With the central government unable to impose order, two rival militias are exchanging rocket and artillery fire in Tripoli, while army units are trying to push out Islamist militants who have set up camps on the outskirts of Benghazi.

The United States evacuated its embassy in Libya on Saturday, driving diplomats across the border into Tunisia under heavy military protection after escalating clashes broke out near the embassy compound in Tripoli.

Early on Sunday, sporadic shelling continued in Tripoli though far less than in the previous days. There were no immediate reports of any casualties.

But clashes were far heavier in Benghazi overnight, where regular army and air force units have joined with a renegade ex-army general who has launched a self-declared campaign to oust Islamist militants from the city.

A source from the Special forces fighting Islamist militants in Benghazi told Reuters clashes involved warplanes hitting militant positions belonging to Ansar al Sharia and another group in the city.

A medical source said 36 people were killed, many of them civilians, and another 65 wounded during clashes on that lasted into the night. Dozens of families have been evacuated from the area between the two sides to escape the fighting.

Libya's western allies worry the OPEC country is becoming polarized between the two main factions of competing militia brigades and their political allies, whose battle is shaping the country's transition.

Special envoys for Libya from the Arab League, the United States and European countries expressed their concerns about the situation in Libya, saying it had reached a "critical stage" and called for an immediate ceasefire. "The UN should play a leading role in reaching a ceasefire in conjunction with the Libyan government and other internal partners, with the full support of the international envoys," a statement issued after a meeting in Brussels said.

A new Libyan parliament was elected in June and western governments hope warring parties may be able to reach a political agreement when the lawmakers meet in August for the first session.

But three years after Gaddafi's demise, Libya's transition to democracy has been delayed by political infighting and militia violence. Armed groups have also targeted the oil industry to pressure the state.

If you just finished a good series and you need a new one to fill the void, Netflix is the place to go. Nothing beats a weekend-long marathon with no commercials, so without further ado, we give you our tightly-curated list of the best Netflix Instant TV shows.

This list is continually updated as TV shows are added and removed from the Netflix library. Last update: July 25, 2014. Jacob O'Gara, Drew Prindle, and Brandon Widder contributed to this guide.

Mad Men

Set in New York in the 1960′s, Mad Men follows one of the city's most prestigious ad agencies on Madison Avenue. The agency is doing well, but as the industry grows the competition begins to stiffen. The agency tries to survive in a time when everything, including the ad industry, is undergoing a radical shake-up. The two protagonists are the enigmatic Don Draper, a self-made executive who's childhood seems to always get in the way of his happiness and ultra-terse Peggy Olson, a former secretary who works her way up the corporate ladder.

Breaking Bad

Walter White (Brian Cranston) is a high school chemistry teacher diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer. To secure his family's finances before he dies, he quits his job and begins to cook and deal meth. Using his chemistry background, White cooks and deals premium blue meth and upends volatile Southwest meth market. His partner is former student, and burn-out Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul). It's teeming with moral consequences and family issues, and fittingly, as addicting as the crystal meth Walt produces in his beat-up van in the desert.

House of Cards

The Netflix-produced series is one of the best political dramas since The West Wing. The show revolves around protagonist Francis Underwood (Kevin Spacey), the U.S. Senate Majority Whip who uses every political secret and inch of his clout to dethrone enemies and leverage his way to the top. His alliance with environmental lobbyist Claire (Robin Wright) is arguably one of the best alliances on TV, brilliantly showcasing just how the two characters are willing to go to beat their opponents and catapult — or destroy —approval ratings.

House of Cards (Original)

So you've seen the American House of Cards, right? Well, check out the BBC original, based off Michael Dobbes' book of the same name. Dobbes is a former Chief of Staff for the UK's Conservative Party, and as expected, the show is steeped in political controversy. Ian Richardson plays protagonist Francis Urquhart — not Frank Underwood but still F.U. —on his monomaniacal and revenge-fueled quest to become Prime Minister. It's extremely British and a bit outdated given it originally aired in 1990, but it's still bloody good.

The West Wing

Quite possibly the best political drama of all time, The West Wing follows fictional President Jed Bartlett (Martin Sheen) and his staff as they fight various personal and political battles, through his two terms as president. Critics and people close to the White House praised the show for its accuracy and the Aaron Sorkin's razor sharp dialog, and even now, the show lives on through multiple Twitter Handles for several West Wing characters. Still, Netfflix offers all seven seasons.

Friday Night Lights

Nothing like a good old fashioned football drama to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. There's not much happening in the rural Texas town of Dillion on Friday nights, except for high school football. The show is set in Dillon, Texas the epicenter of high school football, and follows a team that is considered one of the best in the state. Inspired by the film and loosely based on H.G. Bissinger's gritty novel of the same name, the team's effect on the rural Texas community is captivating, and there's plenty of playbook tricks to keep you hooked.

Scandal

Currently in its third season, you can still catch up with the first two of this insanely popular — and insanely insane — political drama. Kerry Washington is Olivia Pope, the head of a task-force that cleans up politicians after they get down and dirty in scandals. The former press aide from the Bush administration serves as a co-producer for the show, so you know that there are nuggets of real events the show tries to flesh out on screen. It's so much more than that, though, with plot twists, political intrigue, and conspiracies that make 24 look tame.

Heroes

With the NBC series Heroes Reborn set for 2015, it's time for a rehash. The original story revolves around a group of ordinary people who discover they posses superpowers, like the ability to read minds or regenerate. Of course, there are several "non-gifted" individuals who attempt to kill off all the gifted. The show has the feel of a comic pool, with a strong focus on the visual and major plot arcs that span entire seasons and give birth to smaller more nuanced personal stories.

BIBLE STUDY TITLED: CHILDREN HONOR YOUR PARENTS

HONOR YOUR PARENTS

Read: Exodus 20:12

"Honor Your father and your mother." ( Exodus 20:12 ) NIV

------------------------------------------------------------------

Thoughts for Today

This is the fifth of the Ten Commandments and is the centerpiece of all the commandments. The first four deal with our relationship with God and the last six focus on social relationships. This one serves as a bridge from our focus on God to our focus on interpersonal relationships. Honoring one's father and mother is a model to respect God and others. Honor is learned in the home and flows into other areas of respect for various kinds of authority.

Children are to obey and honor their parents. Even though we are no longer called to obey after we enter adulthood and are living out on our own, our responsibility to honor them never ceases. If they treat us badly, we don't need to honor the wrong things they do, but we still need to honor them as our parents and show them respect.

As they age, we can continue to honor our parents by checking on them regularly, by seeing that they are lovingly cared for, by visiting them, talking to them, and especially by listening to them. It is easy to get so busy with job, friends, other family and even church that we begin to neglect our parents. Guarding against that is an important part of honoring them.

Consider this …

As you move through the various seasons of life, ask God to help you honor your parents with your time, your care, your prayers and your love.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Father, thank you for my parents. Help me to always honor them in my thoughts, as well as my words and actions. In Jesus' name …

RELIGIOUS BIBLE STUDY TITLE: HONOR HIS NAME

HONOR HIS NAME

Read: Exodus 20:7

"You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold any guiltless who misuses his name." ( Exodus 20:7 ) NIV

------------------------------------------------------------------

Thoughts for Today

This is the third of the Ten Commandments and emphasizes right thinking regarding the name of the Lord. Most of us want our names to be spoken correctly and with respect. God, whose name is above every name, desires—and deserves—his name to be used with the greatest respect and honor.

Consider this …

Although this commandment is correctly viewed as prohibiting profanity and blasphemy, it means more than that. It also means we are never to take the Lord's reputation lightly. If we call ourselves Christian, we are privileged to use his name. And we dishonor his precious name every time we say or do something that does not show honor or respect for him … when we hurt or condemn rather than showing love to others.

We should be careful not to take God's name frivolously in conversation or lightly in worship. We should avoid movies and TV programs that use his name in profanity or show other signs of disrespect.

Let us use the Lord's name with reverence and honor him in all we say, in all we do and in all that we are.

Father, help me to honor your name not only in my speech, but in every thought, in my attitudes and in all that I do. In Jesus' name …

Thoughts for Today

The Ten Commandments deal with our relationship with God and with others. The bottom line is love. Each of these commandments holds a great deal of meaning for our lives today.

Today's scripture is the first of the Ten Commandments. It calls for an undivided faithfulness to God. Because we have been created in God's image, this relationship is at the very core of human need and affects everyone.

"Other gods" usually brings to mind a wooden or stone image-or the proclaimed god of another religion. But there are more subtle "other gods." Anything that takes our focus off Christ...anything that we devote more time and attention and allegiance to than Jesus...can become our other god. It might be money or sports or sex. It could be our job, a relationship or even working in a ministry.

Consider this ...

It is so easy to get sidetracked, sometimes even doing good things, that we let our personal relationship with the Lord suffer. A periodic reality check can be enlightening. Am I asking God for guidance...or doing my own thing. Am I trusting in my job, or another person, or my own abilities more than I am trusting in the Lord?

If you find that you have wandered off the path, begin to refocus on Jesus.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Lord, forgive me for sometimes getting sidetracked and making other things or people a more important part of my life than you are. Help me to refocus on Jesus. In His name ...
