Hull City 0 - 2 Manchester City

Manchester City recovered from Vincent Kompany's early dismissal to edge out Hull City and move up to second in the Premier League table.
Captain Kompany saw red for bundling over Nikica Jelavic as the Croat ran towards goal inside 10 minutes.

But David Silva's superb strike settled the nerves and Pablo Zabaleta almost made it 2-0 when his shot hit the bar.
The Tigers had plenty of possession but created little and Edin Dzeko sealed the win late on with a cool low finish.

Dzeko slotted past Allan McGregor after some excellent build-up play and a fine outside-of-the foot pass by City's standout player Silva to ensure the visitors keep the pressure on leaders Chelsea after a miserable week in which they went out of the FA Cup and Champions League.

It was Silva's stunning strike - within five minutes of Kompany's red card - that gave City a boost just as it looked like there was potential for the title challenge to start unravelling on the back of defeats against Wigan and Barcelona.

Up until the dismissal, the hosts had looked the brighter side, despite being on a miserable run which had seen them lose four and win just one of their last seven top-flight matches at the KC Stadium.

Jelavic was the focal point, unsettling Kompany and his recalled centre-back partner Martin Demichelis.

The Croat had already threatened twice before he outmuscled a hesitant Kompany and was grappled to the floor - though the Belgian was furious with referee Lee Mason's red card, claiming he had initially been fouled by Jelavic.
Yet despite their numerical disadvantage, it was City who started to look the more dangerous.

They played increasingly on the break after Silva's wonderful curled strike and almost doubled their lead when full-back Zabaleta crashed a 20-yard volley against bar after a powerful run from Yaya Toure.
Ahmed Elmohamady was fortunate to only be cautioned for a studs-up challenge on Silva and, as Hull upped the tempo, David Meyler had a goal ruled out for offside and Jake Livermore sent a skidding long-range shot just wide.

Unsurprisingly, Hull began to enjoy greater possession after the interval and made a bright start.

Shane Long had a fierce strike saved by Joe Hart, Jelavic failed to properly connect with an inswinging free-kick and City striker Dzeko made a fine headed clearance to thwart James Chester.

Clear chances remained limited, but substitute George Boyd twice claimed a penalty in the closing stages.

The first came as Hart dived at his feet, the Hull forward's reaction provoking an angry response from the goalkeeper, but the second appeal after a needless nudge by Fernandinho could easily have resulted in a spot-kick.

Then, after Jelavic had again failed to get on the end of another cross, Dzeko's goal ensured City moved to within six points of Chelsea - who play Aston Villa in the evening kick-off.
Hull City manager Steve Bruce:
"The turning point was the Silva goal. They defended deep, we huffed and puffed and it ended up being a frustrating afternoon.

"We had a wonderful opportunity but we weren't good enough to take advantage. We struggled to create a clear opening. We didn't have that craft."

On George Boyd penalty claims:
"I will have a word with George when the dust settles. Most players are waiting for the contact. The referee has made the right decision.

"The push in the back looked like a penalty."

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini:
"It was a very good response after a very difficult week. We played well with and without the ball.

"It was a clear foul by Jelavic against Kompany before the tackle by Kompany. But the referee did not see it.
"I trust my players and the team. We kept the ball very well today - and without the ball you cannot make damage. I don't remember any clear chances for Hull."

Villa 1 - 0 Chelsea

Chelsea's title bid suffered a major blow with a defeat by Aston Villa in which two Blues players and manager Jose Mourinho were sent off.

The league leaders, who had a first-half goal ruled out for handball, were reduced to 10 men when Willian was shown a second yellow card.

And Villa made the extra man count as Fabian Delph finished Marc Albrighton's low cross with a superb back-heel.

Ramires and Mourinho were both ordered off in a bad-tempered finale.
The Blues' boss was sent to the stands for protesting during the melee that followed a two-footed lunge by Ramires on Karim El Ahmadi.

The defeat means Chelsea's Premier League lead over Manchester City is now six points. City, who had beaten Hull 2-0 earlier in the day despite captain Vincent Kompany's early red card, have three games in hand.

Mourinho has repeatedly played down his team's title chances and, on this evidence, he may be justified after a lacklustre performance that raised serious questions about their ability to stay on top of the pile.

The Blues created few chances in either half, with striker Fernando Torres anonymous up front and Brazilians Oscar and Willian lacking spark.

Villa, meanwhile, were good value for a victory which moved them up to 10th in the table, and could have won by a greater margin had Delph's late effort not deflected off Gary Cahill and onto the crossbar.

Chelsea reprised their habit of starting slowly, failing to score in the first half for their fourth successive Premier League game.

A soporific opening period only came alive in the closing stages when Villa striker Christian Benteke flashed a low volley from outside the box narrowly past a post, before Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic was denied what would have been his first goal for the Blues.

The Serbian was unmarked at the far post as John Terry flicked on Willian's corner, but the ball bobbled off his thigh and onto his arm before he bundled it past Brad Guzan.

Chelsea began the second period on the offensive and were almost rewarded when Eden Hazard's cut-back deflected towards goal off El Ahmadi, requiring Guzan to claw clear.
With chances few and far between, Chelsea were looking to their more creative players to unlock the door but, when Oscar found space in the area, he could only side-foot tamely at Guzan.

Villa remained a threat on the break and almost broke the deadlock through Benteke. After exchanging passes with Andreas Weimann, the Belgium international stroked his effort inches wide.

Chelsea were reduced to 10 men when Willian was shown a second yellow card for tripping Delph as he scampered towards goal.

Then, with eight minutes remaining, Villa made their numerical advantage tell as the ball was swept across the pitch to substitute Albrighton, whose low cut-back was back-heeled outrageously into the far corner by Delph.

Deep into stoppage-time, Chelsea's frustrations boiled over as Ramires jumped into an ugly challenge with El Ahmadi and was immediately shown a red card by Chris Foy.

Mourinho was then sent to the stands as he tried to enter the field to talk to Foy, compounding a miserable evening for the Blues.

A Brilliant New Idea in Online Dating

If you're single and looking to meet someone new, you probably know all about online dating.  Love it or hate it – the pros and cons of online dating are well known.

On the pro side, online dating opens up a wide net to find other singles also looking to meet someone new.   You get to see their likes, dislikes, pet peeves, and other interests.

But what you don't see is the person.  You can invest a lot of wasted time in the back and forth messaging and emails before the actual in-person meeting takes place.  You take a big risk getting to know someone online, finally setting a place and time to meet, and then—if you don't hit it off and plan to see each other again—starting all over again.

It's a common problem and one that the new dating website, HowAboutWe.com has effectively solved.

At HowAboutWe.com the emphasis is placed on having a great first date. Rather than technology matching you up based on your profile, you post what you want to do on your first date and then find people that are into the same thing.  It can be bike riding at the beach on a Saturday afternoon, seeing a foreign film, going to an art gallery, or exploring a flea-market on a Sunday morning.

Other members can respond to your date idea or you can respond to theirs. Then you work out the details and meet! The activity-based approach helps you get offline faster, so you can go on fun dates and see if you generate any in-person chemistry.

And, if the date doesn't lead to romance – you have at least been out doing something you love with someone who appreciates it as well.

Here's how it works:

Post your favorite date ideas, starting with "How about we…" and fill in the rest. You can check out other dating posts and user profiles and see if you and other members have common interests. Once you connect you can plan your date!

Every day, HowAboutWe.com sends you new dates from users who share your interests. They send the dates you post to users who might like them, and you can check out their profiles and message them to set up a date. The idea is to find people who like the same places and want to do the same things as you.

The website's matching algorithm learns your preferences over time to better suit your interests. For example, if you always delete dessert dates, they'll stop sending them to you.

HowAboutWe.com uses the latest technology to protect your privacy and lets you control who sees your information and how.

They also have a really cool HowAboutWe App available at the App Store. It features real-time access to thousands of nearby date ideas, and features sleek user profiles that include full-size photos, personal interests, and easy messaging. It's great for the career-driven single who can only meet spontaneously.

So, if you are frustrated with the amount of time and effort needed on most online dating services – perhaps it's time to have a little fun instead.

Father Kills Teenage Boy After Daughter Lies About Sneaking Him Into Her Room

Let this story serve as a cautionary tale to all the young ones out here. If you're going to break your parents' rules, as most of you will, be sure that you own up to it once you get caught.

A 16 year old girl in Texas didn't do this and a boy lost his life because of it.

Johran McCormick, a 17 year old, was shot and killed by a protective father.

According to KHOU, the 16 year old girl snuck McCormick into the home and in her bedroom. Her younger brother went to say goodnight to her and noticed two feet sticking out from under the bed. He went and told his father.

The father walked in and questioned both the young boy and his daughter but the girl claimed she didn't know McCormick. The father called 911 but an argument ensued before the police could arrive. The father told deputies that McCormick dropped his hands to grab something and that's when he opened fire. The boy died at the scene.

No one else was injured but the father was transported away from the home on a stretcher as he complained he wasn't feeling well.
Authorities said the man appeared to be on several medications.

The family had recently moved to that home from a nearby neighborhood.

McCormick's mother had this say about the situation, "I would like my baby back, but I know that's not possible. A call you know, I'm sorry. He didn't deserve to die like that."

He surely didn't.

Stories like this always break my heart because all of this could have been avoided. We won't even discuss the fact that she shouldn't have snuck the little boy in her room. Teenagers will be teenagers. But instead of lying saying that she didn't know the boy, she should have been honest, owned up and accepted the consequences.

The father was right to call the police and the little boy should have never tried to argue with him. This is the reason why I was vehemently against my own dad getting a gun for our home. People who own guns are always looking for an excuse to use them. And I'm sure at 2 o clock in the morning everything and everyone is threat. Trigger fingers are real even when you're just trying to protect your family.

Either way, he should call McCormick's family and apologize. His mother is right he didn't deserve to die like that.

What do you make of this story? Who's to blame?

MAHAMA SEE GHANAIANS AS JOKERS - KABILA

A member of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfe Jnr., says he is incense at the posture of government in resolving what he described as the unbridled hardships in the country.

According to him, the "PR propaganda" driven Mahama-led administration has "taken our leniency to be our weakness",

"We have not shown government how angry we are; Ghanaians are too docile that is why President Mahama is taking us for granted", he stated.

Kabila, as he is popular called, was speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme on Friday.

He said the Mahama-led administration is "an adversely selected government" that is why it is "insensitive" to the plight of Ghanaians.

The former CPP National Youth Organizer further intimated that the "economic mess" experiencing in the country is self-induced by "government to punish Ghanaians".

He could not fathom why  a nation endowed with natural resources will allow its citizens to languish in abject poverty.

"We are sowing seeds of discord; what is happening, is a bad omen for the youth and the northern folks because President Mahama has failed woefully.  People are angry",  he exclaimed

Kabila said "so long us we allow them [government] to lead us on this path, they will never change".

NOLLYWOOD FILM FESTIVAL GERMANY NFFG & NEGA E-GOLDEN AWARDS NEGA 2014

Plans are currently in top gear for what many consider the biggest celebration of Nollywood, Nigeria's most influential cultural export double-pack festival in Frankfurt, Germany tagged "Nollywood Film Festival Germany – NFFG and Nollywood E-Golden Awards – NEGA 2014" under the patronage of awards winning Isaac Izoya Cultural Ambassador of Ehizoya Golden Entertainment and Hessen State's Filmforun Höchst VHS, Frankfurt, Germany.

From the streets of Paris, France through to Antwerp, Belgium, Texas, USA and the major cities in Germany including Frankfurt Am Main where the event proper is set to take place, the build up is on - that every one, Africans and their European friends alike are talking about it.

According to the chief organizer, Isaac Izoya, the month of September has been carefully chosen instead of the original August date which coincides with school holiday in Frankfurt. The decision to hold this festival is based on the interest shown by the Germans and Europeans to watch classic Nollywood films on big screen for the first time. Their unprecedented interests followed with endless phone calls, forced us to change the festival date to September, after their school holiday.

THE FESTIVAL DETAILS

Nollywood Film Festival Germany - NFFG / Nollywood E-Golden Awards NEGA 2014 - is a four-day event scheduled to hold at Hessen's Filmforun Höchst VHS, Frankfurt, Germany from 11th to 14th September 2014.

Nollywood Film Festival Germany - NFFG aims to create a platform that will facilitate an opportunity for Nigerian directors, actors, film distributors, producers and journalists to interact with their Europe counterparts about the nature and future of Nollywood and the movie industry generally. It will be both a pedagogic and stimulating platform for intercultural dialogue and international exposure.

Nollywood Festival/NEGA Awards Germany is an annual event dedicated to showcasing the best of Nollywood to the German audience in order to foster international trading and exchange opportunities in this largely untapped market.

FESTIVAL FEATURE
1. Two feature length films screening daily.
2. Opening night cocktail attended by Nollywood directors, actors, German/Nigerian experts

3. African Movie premiere and the screening of two outstanding Nollywood movies daily is planned for the NFFG event.

FIRST COLLOQUIUM ON AFRICAN FILMS.
This is a special segment in the four day NFFG/NEGA 2014. It is a gathering of African film makers and stakeholders with international interest groups to discuss trends in African films production and trade and proffer solutions. Those expected to be in the panel are reputable film makers from Africa, Europe and USA.

WHAT IS NOLLYWOOD - BY THE WAY?
Nollywood is the acronym to describe the Nigerian motion picture industry. It is a name apparently modeled after Hollywood of America. Nollywood has been described by UNESCO as the second largest producer of feature films in the world after Bollywood of India. It has been universally recognised as part of the popular African culture of today.

Nollywood is the third ranking source of revenue for Nigeria after Oil and Agriculture. According to experts who follow the industry, in 2006, Nollywood was reported to have grossed $90 Million in New York alone and also suffered over $900 million yearly in UK alone due to lack of proper distribution framework.

Nollywood, the nomenclature for the Nigeria motion picture industry, has been variously described as a phenomenon. This is because the format was a sudden and successful vehicle that has consistently driven the visual entertainment wing of the industry at the expense of cinema, television serials and perhaps stage plays.

Yet, official statistics reveal that over 2,000 movies are censored in Nigeria by the National Film and Video Censors Board yearly. There seems to be a movie boom by Nigeria's teeming movie producers and marketers because of what seems to be a huge reception of the products by the people of Africa who believe that, for the first time, authentic African stories are being told by Africans using globally competitive medium.

The Nigerian film industry has transcended national and continental borders, obtaining worldwide recognition. America, Australia, United Kingdom, Italy, France, and Spain are some examples of western nations where Nollywood has penetrated remarkably. Unfortunately, curiously, Nollywood is still largely unknown to millions of Germans. But this is about to change by the operation of this NFFG 2014 initiative.

WHY FRANKFURT - GERMANY?
Ehizoya Golden Entertainment e.V consciously chose the cosmopolitan city of Frankfurt in consideration of the multi-cultural outlook of Frankfurt and the model role the city is playing in promoting integration as well as the city's well documented pragmatic policy against racism, intolerance and discrimination. Berlin, a city which shares the above-stated virtues of Frankfurt, was the starting point where the vision bearer of this initiative, the award-winning Mr. Isaac Izoya (a cultural ambassador), through the medium of "Ehizoya Golden Entertainment", first established Nollywood's active presence in Europe. Mr. Izoya started building Nollywood's presence in Europe in 2002 through Nollywood film productions and promotion shows, stand-up comedy shows, music and cultural road shows across Europe. Recently, he relocated to Frankfurt due to the well documented supportive character of the city of Frankfurt as well as popular demand by Africans, especially Nigeria immigrant populations in and around Hessen.

Since the regular storming of Europe by Nollywood movie stars, Germany has played a major role in giving comfort and pleasure for the visiting stars from Nigeria and Ghana. Germany was described as "Home abroad" by a majority of the Nollywood stars who have visited Germany through Ehizoya Golden Entertainment e.V. Thus, the choice of Frankfurt, Germany will be building on already existing structures.

Considering the growing numbers of Africa immigrant children and families in Germany, and the desire of a majority of them to have basic knowledge of life in Africa, the concentration in promoting Nollywood movies as a tutorial apparatus and a window of knowledge of Africa for the African-German descendants is becoming inevitable.

More or so, it has been Ehizoya Golden Entertainment e.V's dream to promote Germany to become a rewarding promise land and Mecca State of Excellence for Nollywood (Africans) film makers and a choice tourist destination for the bourgeoisie Nollywood movie stars who otherwise spend a lot of hard currencies making holidays in America, United Kingdom, France and Italy, generating national income for those territories.

Ehizoya Golden Entertainment e.V's believes that making Germany a favorite location for Nollywood tourism and cultural exchange will not only generate income for Germany but could also serve as a medium for re-branding for both the German and the Nigerian image, home and abroad.

NOLLYWOOD E-GOLDEN AWARDS GALA-NITE, NEGA 2014.

The four days event will be crowned with NEGA Awards; (Nollywood E-Golden Awards). It will feature honors for selected Nollywood living legends from Nigeria, Ghana and in the Diaspora who have played important roles in making Nollywood what it has become today. An A-List Stand-Up comedian, Cultural Dancers and Nigerian Hip Hop live performances will feature at an events venue in Frankfurt am Main.

"NOLLYWOOD DIASPORA TALENT HUNT COMPETITION"

Ehizoya Golden Entertainment e.V also hopes to leverage on the event to rediscover African talents in the Diaspora for Nollywood and across the globe. The winners will be rewarded with, at least, sub-lead roles in Nollywood films.

Ehizoya Golden Entertainment e.V has made it a responsibility to create these programs that will challenge, educate, improve and empower the lots of Nigerians in Germany and Europe who are endowed with various talents and natural gifts. This, to a significant extent, will improve the socio-economic status of many and could reduce the menace of idleness, criminality and restiveness of some.

In summary therefore, the NFFG/NEGA Awards is expected to attract African diplomats, politicians, film-makers, Nollywood stake-holders, Nollywood cross-border fans and of course the Europeans, especially residents of Frankfurt in particular and Hessen State in general.

If history is anything to go by, we're really in for a very big show!

If experience is really the best teacher, we'll then understand why Ehizoya's motto is; "The Show Must Go On!"

See you in Frankfurt come September 2014 because "The Show Must Go On!"

ORGANIZATIONS BEHIND THE PROJECT; (We Are No Alone)

The brain child of Nigeria's top flight European based show promoting outfit Ehizoya Golden Entertainment, is behind the project in association with Hessen State Filmforum VHS - Frankfurt Am Main, Germany, The Office for Multicultural Affairs (AMKA – Germany), Nigerian Association Rhein/Main Area e.V Frankfurt, Germany, Sunday Exclusive Live, Nigeria Television Authority NTA, ECD… Connecting Community People, Nollywood Radio France and Nollywood Spotlight – Houston, Texas, USA are all behind the camera.

Ehizoya Golden Entertainment e.V

Believing that the exposure of artistes is veritable vehicle for influencing humanity, culture and the people's mentality, Ehizoya Golden Entertainment e.V, based in Germany, has successfully used her Integration movies and Shows for bringing Africans and their European friends and relatives together for an opportunity to feel merry. She has done this since 2002 when the organization premiered the movie "Sinners In The House" in Berlin. That was Nollywood's first movie ever produced and premiered in Germany. The Integration Shows created, and continues to create opportunities for Africans and Africa-Germans as well as friends and relatives of Africa, who may not have been to Africa for some time, to meet and mingle with Africans in an African social environment and to share memories of Africa and feel at home - far away from home - both in Germany and across Europe countries - annually.

Ehizoya Golden Entertainment e.V has been leveraging Nollywood stars/movies, Nigerian stand-up comedians and hip-hop stars as a medium for unearthing and exposing artistic talents and promoting

African cultural heritage in Europe. She produces movies as a means of promoting integration in Europe and as a medium of resisting modern days slavery tagged "Human trafficking" by discouraging the interest among African youths and their families through demonstrative films that show to them that "all that glitters in Europe among immigrants is not gold" contrary to the general belief in Africa that Europe is heaven on earth.

This Ehizoya Golden Entertainment e.V believes may contribute significantly to stem the tide among desperate African migrants who flock to Europe through illegitimate means at great risks.

Some of the artistes who have benefited from such tours include prominent Nollywood icons;

Patience Ozokwor a.k.a Mama G, Ramsey Nouah, Mercy Johnson, Benedict Johnson, Charles Inojie (2 times), Ghana star – Jackie Appiah, Monalisa Chinda, Zik Zulu Okafor – AMP President, Ngozi Ezeonu, Empress Njamah, Nkeiruka Sylvanus, Jim Iyke, Desmond Elliot, Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme a.k.a Aki and PawPaw, John Okafor (a.k.a. DONT KICK YOUR WIFE, KISS HER

"Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker Jessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hundred. I Pet. 3:7.

Wife battering is becoming a common occurrence in the society today, Men that suppose to be a protector of their wives are shamelessly maltreating these women contrary to the word of God.

If you must demonstrate your boxing skill mister, go to the gym your wife is not a punching bag put your lower and upper cut on hold.

Men beat their wives for many reasons, some say they are proud, stubborn and contentious, I perfectly agree that some women may be difficult, but mature men knows how to handle them and put them where they belong while an immature and baby husbands will add salt to injury at home by turning the home into a boxing ring.

You are not permitted to kick your wife you are only authorized to KISS her. Wife battering is not a civilize thing, it does not glorify God, it is not a good example for your children, it is not good for your wife's health and it did not show that you are a discipline and a gentle man.

Are you not ashamed of your self when you remove your shirt to fight a woman? It is dirty, it is unholy, it is unrighteous.

Some men do claim that the woman provoke them to anger that is why you beat, but when bus conductor provoked you, inside the bus you did not fight, why, because you know that the muscular bus conductor will beat you up if you try any "nonsense".

Do you know that it is only a beast that beat his wife, Godly men, real men, mature men, men with integrity don't do it, wonder how you see yourself after the "boxing bout", a champion? Foul! You are not every wife beater is a loser; every wife' kisser' is a real man. Never go into your marriage with boxing GLOVE go with LOVE use your hands to pamper your wife, not to beat her, dress her, and keep her never disgrace and beat her. 'Women are like dogs, if you beat a dog it will bite you, if you pet it, it will play and even defend you. If you want the best from your wife use the weapon of LOVE not a GLOVE, embrace your wife, never embarrass her..

You will give account to God how your handle his daughter that He committed into your hands, appreciate God by taking good care of her. Do yourself a favour love your wife, if you fail to give her peace, you can never have peace either, if you fail to give her rest, you are putting your life under arrest you can only get the best from her by loving her and caring for her, your wife is your portion (Eccl 9:9) handle her with love, handle her with care. Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom alleged specs leak suggests 19MP camera

Now that Samsung's flagship Galaxy S5 handset has been unveiled, we can well expect to see its family of variants getting a makeover, too.

It appears at least one of those – the smartphone-camera combo Zoom model – may already be close to release following the publication Friday of what's claimed to be a spec list for the device.

The information, posted online by benchmark site GFXBench, suggests the next iteration of the Zoom will launch with enhancements across the board.

For starters, the camera's pixel count is said to jump from 16 megapixels to 19 megapixels (5184 x 3888), however, we'll really want to see the quality of the images from the device before deciding if the pixel increase can be considered an improvement.

There's no information on whether any changes have been made to its optical zoom. The original model, which launched last summer, was noted for being the first smartphone ever to incorporate a 10x optical zoom, controlled via the ring located around the lens. For more on this, and to see what Les Shu, DT's photography editor, found when he compared images from the Zoom with those taken by the iPhone 5S, which has a digital zoom, click here.

As for the S5 Zoom's front shooter, this is listed as 2 megapixels, slightly up from the 1.9-megapixel camera on the S4 Zoom.

We can also expect to see a 4.8-inch 720p display on the new model – still not massive, but a definite improvement on the piddly 4.3-inch offering on the current device.

Said to launch with Android 4.2.2. KitKat, the next Zoom could also feature Samsung's new Exynos 5 hexa-core processor (a step up from the original's dual core), which, incidentally, is currently powering the Galaxy Note 3 Neo.

Other under-the-hood details include 2GB of RAM (up from 1.5GB) and 16GB of storage (double the original).

While the suggested specs for the S5 Zoom are a definite improvement on the original model, we'll have to wait and see if Samsung has made any changes to its physical design. One of the criticisms leveled at the Zoom by DT's mobile editor Jeffrey Van Camp was that it was simply too big, making it uncomfortable to hold. Of course, with a whopping great lens attached, Samsung designers will have done well to make it less bulky, but they might at least have been able to make the main body a little slimmer.

There's no official word on when the revamped Zoom might hit stores, though May is being widely suggested as a strong possibility.

Need for Speed review

EmailTwitterFacebookLinkedin
You can tell how well an audience receives a racing movie by how safe the parking lot is after the movie lets out.

If people politely pull out into traffic, the film failed. If the odd Toyota Camry and Ford Focus gun their engines and peel out as they jostle for the exit, the film succeeded. Need for Speed will likely lead to the latter, so beware the de facto race track that may pop up after a screening.

A good race movie taps into the almost primal love people have for speed, and by extension cars. It makes us want to race, even when common sense screams we shouldn't. A good race movie puts us behind the wheel, and that's exactly what Director Scott Waugh's (Acts of Valor) Need for Speed does.

If you can't guess where this is going, you must be new to movies.

Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul plays Tobey Marshall, a gifted mechanic who specializes in high-performance cars. Predictably, Tobey also happens to be one of the best race car drivers on the planet in his spare time. That's convenient too, because Tobey's old rival Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper), also one of the best drivers on the planet, seeks out Tobey's help in restoring a one-of-a-kind car.
Not surprisingly – there are no surprises in Need for Speed – the rivalry eventually reignites and plays out in a race that ends in tragedy, which Tobey is unfairly blamed for. After a few years in jail, Tobey gets out just in time to borrow an amazing car in order to gain entry into an invitation-only race, featuring some of the best racers in the world driving some of the best cars in the world. It also happens to be the best way for Tobey to defeat Dino and prove his innocence (yes these things are tied together, no it doesn't make much sense).

Tobey's amazing car also comes with a chaperone in the form of beautiful and quirky Julia Maddon (Imogen Poots). If you can't guess where this is going, you must be new to movies. The duo set off across the country at speed, racing against the clock while dodging cops and goons trying to stop Tobey from getting into the main race.

Need for Speed requires a certain amount of moral ambiguity to enjoy. In that sense, it's very much like the video game. When you are being chased by cops in a game, you don't think about the sheriff's digital wife and kids waiting at home when you smash him into a guard rail, and the movie doesn't either. The various racers in this movie – especially Tobey – are cataclysmic when they are being chased. Cops essentially become the bad guys because they inconvenience the hero, and stopping to think about it realistically leads you to the conclusion that Tobey is a sociopath.

If you can overlook that fact and just enjoy the action though – as the film expects you will – the horrific becomes spectacular. Fiery crashes are visual feasts, and civilian wrecks are narrow escapes. It really is just a matter of perspective.

When cars flip over or wreck, the camera is right there with them.

Aaron Paul manages to breathe some life into the utterly predictable and one-dimensional Tobey. He's an avatar for the audience to cheer for. He's the good guy through circumstances, trying to outrace the bad guy. Speed is the star of the film, but Paul is our connection to that speed.
His love interest Julia is the stereotypical "perfect girl" – smart, attractive, and willing to support the hero in his quest for justice. Poots does fine in such a predictable role, but she's hemmed in by the script.

Tobey's team draws from the same scrapyard of movie conventions: There is the "genius mechanic guy," the "stalwart guy," and … Kid Cudi. They, like Poots, add color to the film, and also help explain away things like how you escape cops (answer: a friend in a plane), how you refuel without losing time (answer: two friends in a truck that fill you up on the move), and add some comic relief.

None of it is particularly believable or deep, but it really doesn't matter. Sure, a car jumping 20 feet at high speed would probably disintegrate on landing (or at least crack both axles), but it looks good on film. And that's what Need for Speed gets right.

Tobey and Julia's cross-country dash to make the final race consumes nearly half the film, and gives it a sense of momentum – everything is always moving. Most of the time this is conveyed in a traditional sense, with a chase camera or a camera inside the car to capture dialogue and reactions. When the film stomps down on the gas even harder, some clever camera angles inside the car or on the hood ratchet the speed to breakneck, but without coming across as gimmicky. When cars flip over or wreck, the camera is right there with them, spinning along with the out-of-control wreck. It's the closest thing most of us will get to going 200 mph.

Conclusion

Need for Speed may not erase the well-deserved stigma against video-game movies, but it's a small step in the right direction. It's the type of film critics typically hate for its unoriginality, and audiences love for its unapologetic action. This is escapist fantasy and spectacle filmmaking, with a heavy emphasis on style over substance. But when it looks this good, you won't miss it.

Rockin’ in the HD world: Explaining Neil Young’s shockingly successful PonoPlayer

If you had told us a year ago that a glorified iPod would be the toast of the tech world in 2014, we'd have to stifle our chuckles of disbelief. As much as we love the fidelity of HD audio, getting the masses to embrace a clunkier form of music in the age of Spotify just wouldn't have seemed realistic.

Yet that's exactly what Neil Young has done with his $399 Pono Music player, which blew past its ambitious $800,000 Kickstarter fundraising goal, acquiring over $2.5 million in pledges in about 60 hours.

In the days that followed, HD audio has gone from a backwater obscurity among audio gurus to front-page news, inviting both praise and criticism, inciting debate, and generating lot of misinformation about HD audio. Is Neil Young an audiophile messiah or just a shrewd marketer? Is HD audio worth the expense? Can you hear the difference? Throw on some vinyl and grab a glass of Scotch, we're here to get you up to speed on the audio trend you never expected.

What's the point of Pono?

Neil Young started with all this Pono stuff almost three years ago, but the topic got a big boost of awareness when he appeared on CBS' David Letterman Show, where he showed off a prototype of the player and explained what he was trying to do. In a nutshell, Neil Young aims to turn digital music around by getting music lovers and listeners closer to the quality of music as it was created by the artist. He points out that even the CD is a dumbed-down version of the original master recordings, devoid of its dynamics and detail, never mind an MP3, which can have as little as 5 percent of the original information.

Google launches a Web app add-on store for Google Docs

Detailed on the Google Drive Blog earlier this week, the development team in charge of Google Docs and Sheets have launched a new type of app store for users creating documents or spreadsheets. Called add-ons, these custom applications can import data from Web tools, provide additional formatting options, enable greater communication between people sharing the document or add interesting graphics in diagram form. While Microsoft focuses on providing a marketplace for Word and Excel users to download custom templates, Google is focusing on adding functionality to the docs interface through the help of third parties.

For instance, one of the add-ons will take a list of addresses within a Google spreadsheet and format it correctly to be printed on Avery address labels. Another add-on, HelloSign, enables a field within a document that allows someone to legally sign it using an electronic signature. High school or college students that are working long hours into the night to complete an essay due the following day can use the EasyBib Add-On to quickly generate a bibliography in MLA, APA and Chicago Manual of Style citation formats without having to pause while writing the essay.

Other useful tools included within the Web store perform functions such as MailChimp email integration, mind mapping for brainstorming sessions, language translation, inserting a table of contents for long docs, adding music notation, import data from social networks for analysis, merge multiple documents into one, create an advanced messaging interface or even start a conference call from within a document.

In order to access all the new add-ons, look for the new add-ons drop-down in the Google Drive main menu and click on Get add-ons to launch the Web app store. Users can also manage any added add-ons if the tools prove to be useless for that particular document or spreadsheet.

Chris Brown jailed after being thrown out of rehab...

According to a TMZ report, Chris Brown was arrested in Malibu yesterday after getting kicked out of rehab for violating rules...

From TMZ,
Chris Brown is in jail right now, because he violated a judge's order by getting booted from the rehab facility where he's been living for nearly 4 months ... TMZ has learned.   The judge in the Rihanna beating case ordered Chris to live in the Malibu rehab facility for 90 days to get anger management therapy, and he completed the stint earlier this month.

But ... at the last court hearing, the judge modified things and ordered Chris to stay in the facility while the Washington D.C. assault case ran its course. The deal was this ... if Chris left rehab, he would go directly to jail.Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... Brown was thrown out of the rehab facility this morning, for violating "internal rules."  We do not know precisely what Chris did, but we're told it did not involve violence or drugs.Sources tell TMZ ...

Chris was caught having "an inappropriate relationship" with a female worker at the beginning of the month, but that is NOT why he was thrown out today. As you recall, Chris was previously thrown out of a different facility for throwing a rock at his mom's car window. Chris was picked up by L.A. County Sheriff's deputies this afternoon and is now in jail ...being held with no bail.

NAFDAC prevent public over Dencia’s Bleaching Cream

Gists around town is that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration, NAFDAC could ban Dencia's Whitenicious 7 Day Fast
Acting Spot Remover cream from entering the country because the product has not been approved by the Food & Drug administration.

The goal of NAFDAC is to "safeguard the public health by ensuring that only the right quality food, drugs and other products are maufactured, exported, imported, advertised, sold and used".

This includes cosmetic products. Any product that has not been registered or approved by NAFDAC can not be imported into Nigeria.

This is not to say that every single product being used in the country is NAFDAC approved, however with the massive amount of publicity Whitenicious by Dencia has received internationally & locally with mentions on PerezHilton, MediaTakeout, Ebony Magazine and an appearance on Oprah Winfrey's network, she has allegedly inevitably attracted the attention of NAFDAC.

As at time of publishing, there has been no medical research done on Whitenicious to ascertain potential risks or to prove the claim to fade dark marks in 7 days.

She says so herself in an interview with Ebony when she said, " Yes, There is no
medical research!"

In the same interview she said Whitenicious is all natural, with no Hydroquinone, steroids, or mercury.

Legitimate cosmetic products usually have their ingredients listed on the packaging or container, the same can not be said about Dencia's Whitenicious, no listing of the controversial pigment altering cream can be found anywhere, not on the container, not on the website…only Dencia and her chemical mixers know what's inside the cream.

Whitenicious costs $60 for a small pot and $160 for a large one.

TV Jukebox: ‘True Detective,’ ‘The Originals,’ ‘Looking,’ and more of the week’s best music-on-TV moments

Have you found yourself wondering "What's that song?" while watching your favorite TV shows? If so, we're here to tell you. Check out our Spotify playlist below and see why these music picks clicked. (Warning for those still catching up on DVR: SPOILERS ahead!).

TRUE DETECTIVE (HBO)
The song: The Hat feat. Father John Misty & S.I. Istwa, "The Angry River"
The episode: "Form and Void" (108)
The hook: Though Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Hart (Woody Harrelson) escaped a house of horrors on Detective's ratings-busting finale, this haunting T Bone Burnett-penned original, which played over season 1′s end credits, proved the future wouldn't be all light over dark for these two.
Read Jeff Jensen's review as well as his postmortem with creator Nic Pizzolato, check out Darren Franich's reaction to the finale, and listen to some casting ideas for season 2

THE ORIGINALS (The CW)*
The song: NONONO, "Down Under (Acoustic Version)"
The episode: "Farewell to Storyville" (116)
The hook: Tuesday saw an emotional farewell between Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and his sister/sworn enemy Rebekah (Claire Holt). The scene — and its accompanying track by the Jukebox favorites — mirrored the surprise sadness the next morning when Holt abruptly announced  that she'd be leaving the freshman series. Cheer up, though, Originals OGs! By hour's end, there was a new boss in town — a suddenly innervated Elijah (Daniel Gillies) — and an appropriately epic track, Augustines' "Walkabout," to introduce his ascent.
Read Samantha Highfill's react

LOOKING (HBO)
The song: Arthur Russell, "I Couldn't Say It to Your Face"
The episode: "Looking in the Mirror" (108)
The hook: Following an ill-advised dalliance with his boss on March 9 — which was itself set to Holy Ghost!'s "Do It Again" and Lindstrøm & Christabelle's "Music in My Mind" — Patrick (Jonathan Groff) felt the resonance of late folkie Russell's rueful lyric "I needed space" — his estranged boyfriend, Richie (Raúl Castillo), had said those same words just hours before.
Read Tim Stack's postmortem with creator Michael Lannan

REVENGE (ABC)
The song: Lo-Fang, "When We're Fire"
The episode: "Payback" (314)
The hook: Electro-R&B breakout — and one of EW's 14 to Watch in 2014 — Matthew Hemerlein made a personal appearance on Sunday's Revenge, lending a "Fire"-y ambience to and also performing his dance-floor-ready "Animal Urges" at a birthday party for Charlotte (Christa B. Allen).

THE WALKING DEAD (AMC)*
The song: Lee DeWyze, "Blackbird's Song"
The episode: "Alone" (413)
The hook: As the episode title suggested, Sunday's Dead pondered the toll — and danger — of solitude. Bookending the episode with shots of Stookey (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.) plodding along train tracks, underscored by the words "No more crying, dear" from American Idol's season 9 winner DeWyze — who happens to be a Walking Dead superfan and wrote "Blackbird" with the show in mind. That said, an uneasy alliance between Daryl (Norman Reedus) and biker gang leader Joe (Jeff Kober), which was also forged over the song's bereft fiddle instrumentation, showed that not all company is preferable. As the show's disparate groups head to Terminus before the March 30 season finale, we'll see how that all plays out. (Bonus! Tweeters also dug star Emily Kinney's piano rendition of Waxahatchee's "Be Good.")
Read Maricela Gonzalez's recap

GLEE (Fox)*
The song: "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For," originally by U2
The episode: "City of Angels" (511)
The hook: Jukeboxers on Twitter gave a shout out to Throat Explosions' mash-up of Styx's "Mr. Roboto" and OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" anchored by Pitch Perfect fave Skylar Astin — who just so happened to share the Broadway stage with Glee's own Lea Michele in Spring Awakening way back when. However, the old-school Gleek in us has to give the hat tip to the New Directions' tear-jerking-yet-triumphant tribute to their late leader Finn Hudson (played by Michele's former flame Cory Monteith, who passed away unexpectedly last summer and was movingly honored last October in "The Quarterback"). The Lima collective chose to defend their Nationals title with a Finn-centric lineup, and while it didn't compare to the polish of their competitors, it was all heart. And those us of watching were all sobs.
Read Jodi Walker's recap

STAR-CROSSED (The CW)*
The song: Lightning Dust, "Diamond"
The episode: "And Left No Friendly Drop" (104)
The hook: Atrian interloper Sophia (Brina Palencia) showed off her swimming skills Monday to the Vancouver indie duo's synth-sual song. Its placid vibe belied the tension stirring between Sophia and the human teammates she hoped to have. (In a nice bit of synchronicity, the official video for "Diamond" is appropriately aquatic.) After the swimmers' rivals showed them the error of their internal tension, the high schoolers took a victory lap to Grouplove's "Lovely Cup." (Bonus: Jukebox's Twitter fans dug the closing scenes to James Blunt's "Facing the Sun.")

CSI (CBS)
The song: Meg Myers, "Desire"
The episode: "Long Ride Home" (1417)
The hook: Kiss frontman Gene Simmons may have guested on Wednesday's CSI, but it was Finn (Elisabeth Shue) who rock 'n' rolled while matching up finger prints to Myers' moody thrummer.

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS (ABC Family)
The song: Little Daylight, "Name in Lights"
The episode: "Unbridled" (423)
The hook: Sparks flew between Hannah (Ashley Benson) and Travis (Luke Kleintank) Tuesday after he provided a distraction for Mrs. DiLaurentis (Andrea Parker). Hannah rewarded her partner in snooping with a kiss to the Brooklyn trio's sultry, ethereal single.
Read Samantha Highfill's recap

DEGRASSI (TeenNick)*
The song: Grimes, "Vanessa"
The episode: "Unbelievable" (1324)
The hook: Degrassi has confronted literally hundreds of issues during its 12 super-seasons, but Tuesday's hour-long ep was especially wrenching as Zoë (Ana Golja) learned she'd been sexually assaulted while blackout drunk. Grimes' gut-wrenching song played as she watched a video that her rapists had filmed in the act, and Sarah Bareilles' "Brave" — a request by Jukebox followers on Twitter — closed out the arc as Zoë refused to bow down to the pressure and shame imposed upon her by her schoolmates and an unlikely ally emerged in Becky (Sarah Fisher), the sister of one of Zoë's attackers. They had a choice — "You can be the outcast or be the backlash of somebody's lack of love, or you can start speaking up" — and their decision was clear… and it was wholeheartedly supported by those who mattered.

REIGN (The CW)
The song: Active Child, "Johnny Belinda"
The episode: "Dirty Laundry" (114)
The hook: Newlyweds Mary (Adelaide Kane) and Francis (Toby Regbo) opened Thursday on a high note as Tom Odell's romantic, optimistic "Grow Old With Me" played during their ride back to the French court. The honeymoon was over by the end of the hour, though as Mary learned her best friend was pregnant after a dalliance with Francis, and Active Child's anguished tune played through a sleepless night where she struggled to accept the new complexities of her life. Bonus! Speaking of sleepless nights, Gabrielle Aplin and Bastille's "Dreams" played as King Henry (Alan Van Sprang) literally sexed a woman to death — well, technically she fell out a window, but his vigorous… uh… amorousness got her to that window in the first place.
Read Samantha Highfill's react

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (The CW)*
The song: Vancouver Sleep Clinic, "Vapour"
The episode: "About Last Night" (216)
The hook: VinCat shippers, you now have an official love theme — or two! Monday's ep showed a montage of the back-on lovers scored to the Aussie (not Canadian!) threesome's swoon-inducing tune. And speaking of scoring, Beauty called back to last May's "Date Night" with a repeat play of Foy Vance and Ed Sheeran's "Guiding Light," which saw Vincent (Jay Ryan) and Cat (Kristin Kreuk) reignite their flame from night 'til morn.

THE AMERICANS (FX)
The song: Peter Gabriel, "Here Comes the Flood"
The episode: "The Walk In" (203)
The hook: It's not the first time FX's Cold War drama has used Peter Gabriel to great effect. And the "Flood" in question on Wednesday's ep would be lies, lies, lies — from Elizabeth (Keri Russell) withholding a late comrade's letter of confession to her children and Paige (Holly Taylor) sneaking out to blab some more with a new friend about her parental suspicions to Nina (Annet Mahendru) continuing to share intel about Stan (Noah Emmerich) despite his profession of love. Whether spies and spy-adjacents, they were all, as Gabriel put it in 1977, members of "the jaded underworld" where there's "no point in direction, [they] cannot even choose a side."

BATES MOTEL (A&E)*
The song: The Amazing, "The Strangest Thing"
The episode: "Shadow of a Doubt" (202)
The hook: After plenty of musical-theater fare — Norma (Vera Farmiga) belting out Cabaret's "Maybe This Time," anybody? — Monday's Motel ended on a melancholy note as Norman (Freddie Highmore) said goodbye to Bradley (Nicola Peltz) and withdrew further into himself.

ABOUT A BOY (NBC)
The song: Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, "I've Got You"
The episode: "About a Godfather" (103)
The hook: Holcomb's mellow vibe helped remedy a (literally) crappy situation on Tuesday when Will (David Walton) was left to care for his friends' young children. Let's just say everything came out all right — and Will grew up a little in the process.

THE NEIGHBORS (ABC)
The song: Simon Templeman and Toks Olagundoye, "Balle Balle"
The episode: "Balle Balle" (217)
The hook: Larry (Templeman) and Jackie (Olagundoye) decided to go full Bollywood for an Indian wedding on March 7, resulting in this singing-and-dancing spectacular — their very personal gift for the newlyweds. The song was so silly and infectious, Marty (Lenny Venito) and Debbie (Jami Gertz) even got in on the action!

Student sues fraternity after alleged rape

(CNN) - A Wesleyan University student who says she was raped in front of onlookers at a "wildly out of control" campus fraternity party has filed a lawsuit against Xi Chapter of Psi Upsilon, 11 of its members and the alleged assailant, according to court documents.

Cabri Chamberlin, then a freshman, said she was raped by another student last May at the Xi Chapter of Psi Upsilon fraternity house in Middletown, Connecticut, at a pledge "strip show," says the suit, which was filed Tuesday in a Connecticut federal court.

CNN does not usually identify victims of sexual assault but has done so in this case because the woman wanted to make her name public.

"I'm proceeding in this case with my real name instead of 'Jane Doe' because as the victim of a heinous violent crime I've done nothing wrong and have nothing to be ashamed of," Chamberlin said in a statement provided by her lawyer. "I can't even describe the pain of being raped, or how much it alters a life, and no other person should ever be forced to have that experience. I hope my experience and lawsuit will create changes that protect others."

At the party, the lawsuit says, many "underage and extremely intoxicated" young people danced with naked pledges and "spilled alcohol throughout the area."

Chamberlin, who has taken a leave from her studies, said she became extremely uncomfortable, put on her jacket and attempted to leave when a male student picked her up from behind and raped her in the presence of "numerous others," according to the lawsuit.

Wesleyan public safety officers then took her to a nearby hospital, where a diagnosis of sexual assault was documented, the lawsuit says.

"Psi Upsilon Fraternity takes all reports of risk management violations, especially those with regard to sexual assault, very seriously," Tom Fox, executive director of Psi Upsilon Fraternity, said on the fraternity's website. "We are currently investigating the incident and gathering further information."

After an internal investigation, the university expelled the alleged perpetrator and imposed "sanctions against the fraternity and members," according to a statement by Wesleyan President Michael S. Roth.

The student named in the lawsuit, who has not been charged criminally, did not return calls seeking comment.

2 killed when car plows through SXSW crowd

Suspected drunk driver plows SXSW crowd

A driver who plowed into a crowded street at a popular festival in Austin this week, killing two people, was charged with capital murder, police said Friday.

Rashad Charjuan Owens allegedly tore through the crowd while drunk, running over people and hitting other cars. At least 23 others were injured.

Police caught Owens, 21, after an alleged foot chase, and Tasered him. His bond was set at $3 million.

Authorities have not released names of the dead, but they were a Dutch man on a bicycle and a local woman on a moped, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said.

MassiveMusic, a music agency with offices around the world, posted a statement on its website identifying the company's Amsterdam-based creative director, Steven Craenmehr, as killed Thursday in Austin.

"During the eight years that Steven worked for MassiveMusic, we got to know him as an unstoppable force, full of life, love and laughter," it said. "This is an irreplaceable loss for the MassiveMusic family, and we are grateful for the years we spent with him. Our thoughts are with Steven's family and friends."

Owens allegedly plowed through a barricade while attempting to flee police and and struck crowds listening to music just after midnight Wednesday.

Close calls for many

Some people escaped by a matter of inches.

Pablo Vazquez said the suspect drove right past him.

Lady Gaga dedicates encore to SXSW accident victims, gets puked on

Here's the most important thing you have to know about Lady Gaga's performance at SXSW on Thursday night: At one point, while performing the ARTPOP track "Swine," Gaga climbed aboard a mechanical bull that had a pig's head. A second woman, a performance artists from London who Gaga introduced as Millie, climbed onto the bull with her and proceeded to vomit directly onto the bright white apron that gaga was wearing.

It was certainly a new brand of visual, and one that Gaga designed specifically for this special show that was originally supposed to be staged inside the giant Doritos vending machine but was later moved to the faux-amphitheater at Stubb's. That smaller stage was converted into "Lady Gaga's Haus of Swine," according to a light up sign on stage right. The mechanical pig wasn't the only attraction; she opened the show by singing "Aura" while rotating on a barbecue spit (this was after six solid minutes of her eating ribs on stage in silence). You can't accuse her of not knowing how to work a crowd, as she also re-arranged "Bad Romance" into a country-blues hybrid that featured some pretty mean fiddling.

It was hard to imagine what Lady Gaga would do on such a small stage, but she made it work. Over the course of her relatively intimate hour-long set, she stuck mostly to material from ARTPOP, with the piano ballad "Dope" and the jittery "MANiCURE" doing their best to stand out from the pack. The only swerves were the remixed variation of "Bad Romance" and an a cappella rendition of a song called "Monster For Life" that she dedicated to regular opening acts Lady Starlight and the Semi-Precious Weapons, who had joined Gaga on stage. (Her only other on-stage guest? Twista, who dropped in for his verse on "Jewels N' Drugs."

The vomiting was, of course, the centerpiece. Gaga announced she would be wearing the apron and introduced the mysterious Millie before the opening notes of "Swine." Millie made a big deal out of chugging down a bottle of green-tinted liquid, the bulk of which ended up on Gaga after a brief sojourn through Millie's alimentary canal. It was gross, to be sure, but it also felt new.

The horrendous accident that killed two and wounded another two dozen occurred just a block away from where Gaga was standing, so she dedicated her brief set's encore to the victims of that tragedy. Before playing an extra-emotional version of "Gypsy" (whose refrain "I don't wanna be alone forever" held extra resonance), she reminded the audience to be present and available and to make art whenever possible, because life is short and fleeting.

"When you die," she told the crowd, urging them to remain engaged, "nobody is going to give a f— what you tweeted." It was the ideal tone to strike in dealing with the senseless violence of the previous night. That's why Gaga is a pro.

'American Idol' 2014 recap: I Know You've Gone Too Far Aired Mar 13

Whoa! A stunner! Well, sort of.

After two weeks of all females in the bottom three, this week's stool-dwellers surprised us by being a) two-thirds male and b) the legit weakest three performances of Wednesday night. America is voting on quality instead of cuteness? Are you sure I am still watching Idol?

Ben Briley, he of the "lackadaisical walk" on last night's "Bennie and the Jets" cover, could not save himself with a last-minute performance of Grace Potter's "Stars" — and the judges opted not to save him, either. Goodbye to deviled egg enthusiast Ben Briley. It's sad, but it's also a fantastic excuse to run out to the late-night supermarket and buy a four-pack of deviled eggs. What, you're doing something so much cooler with your Thursday night?

"Ben we love your voice, but we wanna see artistic growth," Keith Urban let him down gently.

Do you think the lack of his "signature" (heavy air quotes on that) baseball cap did Ben in? It was either the lack of hat or the unappealing musical performance. Gotta be one of those two.

I'm surprised I never noticed before tonight that Ben looks a bit like Avery from Nashville in the face. (Are y'all readin' my Nashville recaps?)

Majesty Rose and Sam Woolf joined Ben in the official bottom three. This is very interesting, that people are voting based on the quality of the most recent performances instead of longstanding favor. I'd never have guessed that either Majesty or Sam would be in danger three weeks ago. After Wednesday's blunders, I'd have picked them as part of my bottom three, but I still wouldn't have bet money on them slumming it stool-style.

Once again Harry Connick Jr. transported me to a level beyond the Idol stage merely by playing the piano during his "American Idol Medley 2014″ sound-explosion. Dozens of musicians on that stage and I'm blown away by one guy at the piano! The man is a sorcerer of charm, and ivory. He also exhibits tremendous "duck face" sometimes as he sings. This I did not know.

I loved Caleb Johnson's solid and endearing impression of Harry: "Why don't you watch my PG-rated family films? [Scat-a-la-dee-doo-bop-bop or however you would text-ify scatting, which clearly I cannot.]

Harry's never had an issue with nerves! He knows a lot of people wrestle with that. You guys, he is the perfect human. Imagine never being nervous! I CAN'T.

That cute little weirdo Munfarid Zaidi returned (did Ryan say he was visiting from his spring break in Austin?) to let Harry pick him up like a baby as Munfarid sang Harry's tune "Every Man Should Know." Harry's ease and total comfort with this super-fan stranger (with a suh-weet voice, by the way!) was almost as fascinating as the "Yep, definitely, this is completely normal" facial reactions from Keith, Jen, and Ryan. Season 13 really is its own particular beast, huh? There are these moments of pure WTF-greatness…. and a lot of stretches of time that are just long yawns.

"Why are you not in Hollywood, you are fantastic!" Harry raved. To his baby.

Harry's strong! That was my biggest takeaway from this ridiculata. Guy didn't even flinch while lifting a college student for more than a minute. It's probably because he flexed his glutes.

Best Seacrest Scare of the night was to M.K.: "You're going to have to endure the stress……….. of the competition."

J. Lo is always on the lookout for what's new — and it's not just a  "surprise" snippet of her new single "I Luh Ya PaPi," which features a dramatically more mature version of her infamous chest-less Green Versace Grammys dress from 2000. In the spirit of her graffiti headband, Jen professed her love for hip-hop music and introduced Mali Music, who performed "Beautiful."

What a beautiful creature this Mali Music is, for real. I loved his "scarf play" and elaborate drapery over the microphone! Check out the gospel artist's full music video on youtube.

Theme for next week: "This week's Billboard charts"!

I don't think anyone will get dinged if they try this:

Was Ben the right choice to go home? Discuss!
