EXCLUSIVE Sofia Coppola Will Direct the Live-Action Adaptation of “The Little Mermaid”

The trend of creating live-action versions of famous animated movies goes on. Sofia Coppola, the director of "Lost in Translation", is reportedly in talks with Universal Pictures studio to helm one of the greatest Disney animated films "The Little Mermaid", a live-action version of the Hans Christian Anderson fairy fiction that won Academy Award in 1989. A script has been under consideration for quite a long time, and Caroline Thompson, who is known as regular Tim Burton coworker and wrote the script of Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Addams Family and Corpse Bride, has been announced to come up with a perfect edited script of the film, as per a number of media reports.

According to media sources, Universal Pictures has pre-planned all the processes to get this film completed and released as fast as possible. Sofia is a well-known director and has made a number of inspiring films, which are all intended for adults. You may be thinking that lest she directs the film with adults' point of view rather than children's. Well, you don't need to worry, as she is a mother and many media reports infer that she is at the point where she needs to create something that her own children enjoy watching.

While Disney possesses the rights to Little Bird animation film and all the things related to it, the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale is unquestionably in the unrestricted and available to anyone. Therefore, the studios excluding Disney can create their own live-action adaptations of derived from fictions we so commonly and incorrectly keep in mind as theirs. Pinocchio, and "Beauty and the Beast" are the prime examples in this regard. We all know "The Little Mermaid" since it was released in 1989 by Disney, but the fact is that this story has been around since the 1830s.

This year and the next year will see several back to back live-action adaptations of Disney's animated stories. The casting process of "The Jungle Book" has already been completed and production is going to start soon. Alice in Wonderland sequel has been announced and will be directed by James Bobin. Joe Wright's "Pan" and Kenneth Branagh's "Cinderella" are already under production. Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie has been completed and is going to be released soon.

Now, it'll be really cool to see how Sofia helms the classic story of a mermaid.

The Sequel of Disney Animated film 'The Incredibles' Has Been Officially Announced

After ten years since the first film was launched, Brad Bird has spoken about whether or not there would be a sequel for superhero animation film "Incredibles" many times, and he has been very honest about it. The issue was always with creating a most satisfying script that was worth telling the story with those greatly admired characters.

It would be quite simple to produce a number of films in a routine or monotonous way where we just expend time with Bob, Helen, Dash, Violet, and the extremely weird Jack, a family of undercover superheroes, while struggling to live normal uptown life, are compelled to use their super powers in order to save the world.

After immense success of comedy animation "The Iron Giant" and "Family Dog", Brad Bird rose to fame from "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol". He is known for various other classical animation films including "Ratatouille". He has great talent of telling great comedy animation stories. He intends to create things that make people say 'wow'.

Bird has developed a huge fan base in short time and his films have also found a wide range of audiences. He has the potential to come up with film content the way he needs and the way audience admires. He is currently working on Mystery Sci-Fi "Tomorrowland" which has already become very highly anticipated film. Besides, he is also directing a crime drama "1906.

He had said several times that the reason he couldn't work on the sequel of The Incredibles is that he didn't have the right idea for it. But, now it has been confirmed that "The Incredibles 2" is really happening. It means Bird at last got a real story to tell, and this is great news. According to various rumors in media circles, Pixar may continue this project without Bird's involvement. But, I think that's not going to happen.

Hopefully, soon we will have more details about the sequel, and we certainly can't wait to see what Bird has to present this year or maybe next year. Are you excited to watch the sequel of "The Incredibles"? What is your favorite Brad Bird?

EXCLUSIVE ‘Game of Thrones’ producers: George R.R. Martin’s secret ending is ‘absolutely’ satisfying

It's a question George R.R. Martin's fans have wondered for many years: Will the bestselling author's five-books-and-counting Song of Ice and Fire saga have a satisfying ending? Will the destination, not just the journey, pay off?

Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss know Martin's planned final arcs of his as-yet-unwritten story. So we asked them.

First, some context: HBO's Thrones is about to launch the fourth of a planned seven seasons (possibly eight) on April 6. Martin has two books left to come in his series, The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. When it comes to fan expectations, the Thrones producers are generally quite cautious about getting fans' hopes up, especially since expectations tend on this saga to be so high already (asked if they're "confident" season 4 of Thrones is their best yet, Weiss replied, "I wouldn't say we're too confident. I would say we're terrified that it won't be.")

So last September at a seaside park grove in Croatia, inside a dim tent full of camera monitors, we asked the duo: "You know George's ending for the saga. A lot of fans have wondered whether it's going to pay off in a satisfying way. Non-specifically, do you feel the saga's ending is creatively satisfying? Is it an ending you're excited to work towards?"

Their replies were immediate and emphatic.

Benioff: "Absolutely yes."

Weiss: "100 percent."

So there you go. No details, naturally. But however Martin's story may conclude, at least two huge fans of his work have high praise for its mysterious, long-planned conclusion (once again: no pressure, George!). Of course, an absolutely satisfying ending by Thrones standards could also mean everybody dies in some spectacular fashion, but we kinda doubt that. Martin himself has used one word to describe it: "Bittersweet."

This subject will also invariably raise the show-catching-up-to-the-books issue. Recently there's been a lot of coverage about this after another outlet addressed the topic. In case you missed it, see our exclusive last year which was the first to detail the various positions (all still current) of the producers, Martin and HBO on this tricky situation.

EXCLUSIVE "The Raid 2" Director Gareth Evans Spills the Beans about the Film

The Raid: Redemption was considered to be the best action film of the year 2011. It immediately turned out to be a blockbuster film due to its unique storyline and realistic action scenes and Indonesian martial arts.

After the huge success of the original film, the director and producers were compelled to make the sequel "The Raid 2: Berandal," which is directed by Gareth Evans and is set to launch on 28 March this year. The trailers of the film have already aroused gasps, screams and cheers from the audience with its powerful and brutal action scenes.

An event was organized in Los Angeles a couple of days ago for the promotion of the film. Evans, who has edited as well as written the script of both original film and its sequel, jested about the brutal theme of his franchise prior to the screening started, terming "The Raid 2" as a "mild PG-13 drama." He then brought in lead actor of the film, Iko Uwais, who showed his martial arts skills to the fans, prior to finishing with a fair warning for the fans who are eagerly waiting for the release of film: "Enjoy the violence."

Uwais, who is well versed with conventional Indonesian martial arts since his childhood, revealed to the media sources that his parents were martial arts trainers, so it is part of his inheritance. While every fight is pre-contrived through a video storyboard, Gareth told that Uwais had lost consciousness for a moment during filming of a last scene.

He also said that the action sequences were cautiously carried out so that the movie would stay balanced and include better action scenes than the original.

"If it's a three-minute fight scene, we want to put four or five punch lines in there. Punch lines are like those moments in the prison riot when the guy has his head kicked into the tile," Evans said. "If you just stack (these moments) all up next to each other, it would (become) overkill."

After planning the action sequences, Evans said he would come up with a video storyboard through crash mats and a video handy cam to work on camera angles and editing aspects — a method he made while filming the first movie.

While the whole Raid team is eager to start work on third sequel, Evans said he requires some time away prior to starting another project and sleep is his main concern at the moment.

President Obama to make first appearance on ‘Ellen’

President Barack Obama wants to make sure all uninsured Americans know about the deadline to sign up for healthcare coverage — so, naturally, that means turning to Ellen DeGeneres for help.

Obama will appear on Thursday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show via live shot from the White House. He'll be reminding viewers that the deadline to sign up for Obamacare is March 31.

Though he made a memorable guest appearance on the talk show when he was campaigning for president (see below for video), this will be Obama's first time on Ellen as commander-in-chief.

To raise awareness about the healthcare deadline, Obama has also recently enlisted the aid of Zach Galifianakis on a hilarious episode of Between Two Ferns and the moms of a bunch of famous people.

Justin Bieber Said Foot Injury Affected DUI Test

COLLAPSE STORY
Justin Bieber was "agitated and condescending" toward officers and claimed a foot injury affected his ability to perform a sobriety test when he was arrested in Miami Beach, Fla. earlier this year, according to new documents released by the Miami-Dade State Attorney's office on Tuesday.

The pop star was arrested for driving under the influence and other charges after he was pulled over Jan. 23 in a rented Lamborghini. R&B singer Khalil Amir Sharieff, who was driving a Ferrari, was also arrested.

After being stopped and questioned by police, the documents state that Bieber "got upset" and said, "I'm 19 years old. I'm just out having a good time. What were you doing when you were 19?" The officer replied that he wasn't driving around in a Lamborghini, to which Bieber said, "Yeah, well, I bet you didn't have millions of dollars in your bank account either."

The arresting officers then commented to one another that it looked as if Bieber, who turned 20 on March 1, and Sharieff, were having difficulty driving the high-end cars.

"What? I've been driving Lamborghinis since I was 15," Bieber snapped, according to the police report.

Bieber later told officers, after swaying and appearing to wince in pain during a sobriety test, that he suffered a hairline fracture in his right foot three months earlier while skateboarding. Video showed the unsteady pop star in jail attempting to walk in a straight line.

Bieber tested positive for marijuana and Xanax, according to a toxicology report released by the State Attorney's Office. In the police report, he mentioned taking an anti-anxiety medication whenever he feels "closed in."

A trial date is set for May 5.
