‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’: Marvel reveals new Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver concept art

Marvel Studios made an information dump tonight with its primetime TV special Assembling a Universe, which detailed the company's industry revolutionizing interlocked film franchises. But it's not like them to leave fans without a treat.

As Avengers: Age of Ultron revs into gear, the special revealed new concept art for some longtime fan-favorite characters: the Scarlet Witch, featured above, and her brother, Quicksilver, featured below …

In the Avengers sequel (or perhaps fans will see them much, much sooner), these two roles will be played by Elizabeth Olsen (Silent House, Martha Marcy May Marlene) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass, Nowhere Boy). Scarlet Witch is, as her names suggests, able to manipulate energy, and specializes in harnessing magic and chaos to unleash her hexes. Quicksilver, her twin, is able to move at supersonic speeds.

As created by artist Jack Kirby and writer Stan Lee, the pair were mutants in the Marvel universe, but that term won't be popping up in the Avengers sequel. The rights to all the comic-book company's mutants is held by Fox as part of its X-Men license. So we also won't be hearing about their father, Magneto, in this iteration.

Some characters straddle the rights of both Marvel Studios and Fox, like these two, and as a result you'll also see Quicksilver turn up in X-Men: Days of Future Past on May 23, with Evan Peters in the role. (Director Bryan Singer says there won't be a Scarlet Witch in X-Men, except for perhaps "a reference.")

It's now a battle between the rival studios to establish the definitive version of the character in audiences minds, which is most likely why Marvel is releasing some images now, more than a year before Avengers: Age of Ultron is set to open.

The TV special also revealed this piece of Avengers 2 concept art featuring the Hulk and Black Widow. But …

It kind of resembles this old image from the original movie. But hey, at least we know a building is coming down on them in the next movie. That's something.

Here are some other images revealed in Marvel's Assembling a Universe …

Concept art from Guardians of the Galaxy, out Aug. 1, of Star-Lord, a.k.a. Peter Quill (played by Chris Pratt) and Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper.)

Cooper's Rocket Raccoon again, feeling frisky while perched on the shoulder of tree-warrior Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel.)

Then we were treated to a whole heap of Ant-Man, the post-Avengers movie being made by filmmaker Edgar Wright, with Paul Rudd in the lead role of thief Scott Lang, who gets his hands on a suit that can shrink him to tiny size, while still preserving all the punching and lifting power he'd have at full form.

That film is slated for release July 17, 2015.

Those who attended Comic-Con two years ago already saw the short film Wright created to test the visual effects of Ant-Man's "Size Fu," a term coined by Badass Digest's Devin Faraci. These are all shots from that footage, but it provides a look at what the hero/anti-hero's costume will look like.

Here he is in the midst of a size-morph.

The little guy peeks through a ventilation duct, eyeing that elevator at the end of the hall …

Here is Ant-Man, front and center. Having knocked out some tough-looking customers, he is now safely inside that elevator as the doors slip shut.

He is small. It's the picture that got big.

‘The Originals’ react: Bad moon rising

Can't we all just get along? That was the theme behind tonight's episode, the short answer to which is: No. Not when Klaus Mikaelson is involved. Honestly. For someone who's so stuck on the idea of family, Klaus seems to forget that Elijah is the one who has saved his life for all these years. We get that you want to be the big bad wolf, Klaus, but what exactly are you doing? Then again, you could make the argument that he wants his child to be safe. Is he actually being a good father, even if it means being a bad brother? Let's get to it!

We started with Klaus talking about how time heals all wounds. However, "the greater the loss, the deeper the cut, and the more difficult the process to become whole again." Pain fades, but scars "serve as a reminder of our suffering and make the bearer all the more resolved never to be wounded again." Klaus was of course talking about losing Rebekah — something I still haven't grasped, though honestly didn't really notice in this episode. And in coping with his loss, Klaus turned to painting and sex. More specifically, sex with powerful witch Genevieve. Elsewhere in the French Quarter, witches and vampires turned to anger and revenge. But once enough time passed, a month to be exact, it was time to begin anew.

Elijah was ready to make the city whole again, and if Klaus wasn't going to help, Elijah would hold a meeting of his own. At the church, all the faction leaders gathered to discuss boundaries and a potential peace treaty. But when Hayley — who'd successfully given Celeste's treatment to her pack — found out that the wolves weren't invited to sit at the table, she crashed the party. She wanted her people to have a voice.

Meanwhile, Davina was struggling to find her voice as a witch now that she couldn't seem to practice magic post-death. Even a meeting with the adorable Josh couldn't help her. Thankfully, Marcel was keeping tabs on her. He told Josh to help Davina. If she couldn't practice magic, she was going to be in danger. As for Marcel? He wanted to get Thierry on his side. He was preparing to build an army to take back his city.

But Marcel had something else to deal with first: Father Kieran was deteriorating to the point where he had to chain himself up to keep from killing. Marcel showed up and got a witch to put a boundary spell on the attic so that Kieran wouldn't leave. Then, Marcel helped Cami find a lot of bourbon before he helped her find her bed! It was a very hot one-time thing, or so they claim, but the bad news is that Genevieve saw the whole thing thanks to some witchy dreamcatcher-turned-peep-hole thing. And considering Genevieve is jealous of Cami's relationship with Klaus, we can assume she'll spill the beans, which won't be good for poor Cami.

In town, Elijah was approached by a woman named Francesca, who planned to represent the human faction now that Kieran was in an unstable mental state. According to Elijah, Francesca owns the Palace Royal Casino, is a leading philanthropist, and runs a drug trafficking empire. Blame it on Breaking Bad, but I immediately liked this woman. Tell me she used to be a chemistry teacher, and I am in! However, my affection for her lessened when she tried to threaten Elijah. The only good thing that came out of it was Elijah's humans-are-so-amusing-and-adorable-thinking-that-their-threats-mean-anything-to-me face:

Cut to the next scene, and I'm passed out on the floor because do you see Elijah in that black V-neck?! That should not be legal. But also, he should wear it every episode. Getting down to business, Klaus offered Elijah some very simple leadership advice: Throw a party! So he did.

Genevieve brought along Davina and the baby witches, Francesca brought her new dress, and the wolves brought all of their hair. Speaking of that hair, Oliver immediately had eyes for a much-too-young Davina but was stolen away by a super bitchy Monique before anything inappropriate went down. But I wasn't the only one against Oliver. Diego was not a fan of wolves considering his family had been killed by a pack. But for now, things were going smoothly. Elijah managed to beautifully threaten Jackson before asking Hayley to dance. But when the talked turned to her returning to the palace — I love that they call it that — she got angry and swapped dance partners. She and Jackson flirted as Elijah listened on. Oh! I'm so torn! Elijah is obviously my favorite ever, but I can't decide if Hayley is right for him! Plus, Jackson is hot (and I want Elijah for myself). Help!

In a secret meeting upstairs, Klaus and Jackson made a deal. Klaus revealed the ring we saw many episodes back, the one that belonged to a direct descendant of his biological father. Apparently, it was a moonlight ring, much like the daylight rings that the vampires wear. It would protect werewolves from the curse of the moon, and it was Klaus' bartering tool. He claimed he wanted to give the city back to the wolves because their strength comes from family unity, and the safety of that unity is what he wants for his unborn child. As he put it, "Vampires are the antithesis of unity." Jackson was in.

Meanwhile, a fight broke out between Oliver and Diego that lasted all of 20 seconds before Elijah and Jackson broke it up. But both men put down their weapons when Hayley gave a speech about how they all either need to get along or kill one another already. I get her point, but can you imagine the tragedy if all these beautiful people killed one another? My heart couldn't take it.

In the end, all change begins with a plan. Elijah got the factions and Klaus to sign the peace treaty, but little did he know that Klaus was already planning big things for the wolves. As Jackson put it, the rings would take them from being everyone's equals and make them everyone's superiors (except for Elijah, I might point out).

Across town, Davina had found her magic — suck it, Monique! — and Thierry was joining forces with Marcel. A war was brewing, the biggest of which being between Klaus and Elijah the second that Elijah finds out Klaus' plan to help the wolves take over the city.

So what did you all think of the episode? Did you miss Rebekah or did you barely notice, like me? And what are your thoughts on these new wolves being more permanent characters? I like me some Jackson. Sound off in the comments below while I go check my mailbox for an invite to Elijah's next party.

QUOTABLES:

"Until then, I should tell them what? Sit, stay, roll over?" -Hayley to Elijah about the wolves

Cami to Klaus after spotting Genevieve: I saw the light from the courtyard and took a chance that you weren't with a half-naked psycho witch. Seems I gambled and lost.
Genevieve: 10 minutes ago, I was fully naked.
Cami: Oh, then you served your purpose. Don't let me hold you up.

Cami: Really? The woman tried to blackmail me into stabbing you with the mystical knife of excruciating pain.
Klaus: Well, New Orleans breeds nothing if not strange bedfellows.

"I do hope your daughter inherits her mother's … everything." -Elijah to Hayley

Warner Bros.’ Batman vs Superman Will Confront with One of Marvel’s Upcoming Superhero Films

When it comes to superheroes, fan base is usually divided among DC comic Superheroes and Marvel superheroes. Most of the fans like to compare the skills of DC comic heroes with Marvel's and debate about which one is better than other. Such enthusiastic fans would be excited to know that DC comics' upcoming film "Batman vs. Superman" and one of Marvel's next superhero films are preparing themselves for a head on collision in 2016.

Previously, the identity of the Marvel's film set to release on May 6, 2016, was kept undisclosed. But the mystery has been revealed. The Marvel's superhero film, which is going to match wits with Warner Bros.' Man of Steel sequel, is Captain America 3, according to various reliable media reports.

Many experts and moviegoers say that such competition should be avoided, particularly collision between two most admired superheroes franchises which have complete domination of almost all movie and comic superheroes.

Typically, studios choose opening dates years beforehand with the purpose of making the most of the potential audience for their movies and to add a flag in the calendar as a reminder of competitors that gratify alike demographics.

Both films are being considered to be blockbusters and are pitched toward the fans of comic books and science fiction movies. This biggest superhero box office showdown in history might have been fended off had Warner Bros. not pushed the Man of Steel's sequel's launch date back ten months so as to make possibility for more production time. It was earlier set to release in cinemas in summer 2015.

By bringing together main DC comic superhero characters on big screen, It seems that Warner Bros. is trying to imitate the epic assemble of Marvel's leading superheroes characters in Avengers universe. Recently, during a promotional campaign of the next Captain America sequel, Marvel's head Kevin Feige accepted the challenge, describing that he had no intentions to change the release date.

As per some rumors in media circles, Warner Bros. may have been holding off to observe what the Marvel title was prior to thinking about a date change for its film. Director of Man of Steel sequel, Zack Snyder, will start filming in the next few weeks.

So, are you excited to see the epic back to back superheroes films from two prestigious studios? It would be hell of a weekend, for sure.

The 'black spider' letters: Dear Prince Charles, opinions are for abdicators

The heir to the throne likes to make his views known – but not to us. He should learn from his mother, and keep his letters polite and bland

I do rather feel ... The Prince of Wales is an inveterate letter-writer, but expects secrecy

The Queen knows how to handle her correspondence. Write a letter to the monarch and you will be rewarded in kind: not with a message in her own hand, it's true, but a charming substitute from a lady-in-waiting, who will tell you how very pleased the boss was to hear from you, and what an excellent idea it is to have a baking competition in honour of her birthday, but no she sadly won't be available to come along and try one of the cakes and please find the recipe you enclosed returned for safekeeping.

There are, presumably, more revealing letters that remain unseen. But to judge by Elizabeth's generally scrupulous sense of decorum, it is hard to imagine they are ever anything but proper. The Queen seems to understand that the sort of leadership that we want from her is best expressed through the blandest sort of courtesy. She is a slate so blank that when she made some entirely uncontroversial remarks about poverty last week, suggesting that poor people should be helped, they were read like entrails for a hint of her politics. Even this, frankly, seems a bit too much. A twinkle in her eye as she waves is all I want to know about her hinterland. Opinions are for abdicators.

It is certainly hard to imagine her taking on a minister. Not so, you feel, the Prince of Wales, he of the famous "black spiders" – an epithet intended to describe his handwriting in epistles to decision-makers that, instead, conjures up images of the heir to the throne as leader of the Windsor branch of the Hell's Angels. Prince Charles is well known for his determination to let anyone in power know exactly what he thinks they should do, mostly by post.
He makes for a peculiar sort of professional lobbyist. As such, you might hope that he would go out of his way to advocate the sort of causes that would appeal to the widest range of his 60 million or so employers. To judge by the available evidence, though, that's not the case. The few letters of his that we do have access to suggest that he views himself exclusively as the divinely appointed representative of people who wear red trousers. "Our lives are becoming ruled by a truly absurd degree of politically correct interference," he told the Lord Chancellor in 2001; the farmer had been right, he grumbled to Tony Blair in 2002, who told him that "if we, as a group, were black or gay, we would not be victimised or picked upon".

If those are the ones we're allowed to see, what about the rest? In the main, we're in the dark. But last week, the Court of Appeal dared to affront the monarchists with a decision of refreshing common sense that brings us a step closer to knowing what at least some of those letters say. The Guardian's Rob Evans has been trying to get access to the letters for years, not unreasonably arguing that if Charles is exerting an influence on policy then in a democratic country we ought to know about it. So far he has been thwarted; in October 2012, the attorney-general Dominic Grieve overruled a court's decision to allow access. But last week, Grieve lost an important battle. Now, barring a successful appeal to the Supreme Court, Charles's correspondence will be revealed at last.

About bloody time. Grieve himself called the letters "particularly frank", but should you have had any doubts about their controversial nature, you would have had them dispelled last week: when the arguments are sofeeble, you wonder how embarrassing the material they are trying to hide must be. Grieve himself has been keeping a low profile, but Michael Ellis, a Tory backbencher, made the case against access on Radio 4's PM, and the holes in his case were so enormous that you could park the gold state coach in them.

To begin with, he claimed, Charles was being denied the same right to privacy that any constituent could expect – as if he were writing to his local MP about a leak in the Clarence House roof. He echoed Grieve's ludicrous suggestion that the sacred principle of royal neutrality would be compromised by publishing the "particularly frank" letters, whereas anyone reasonable can see that the thing compromising the sacred principle was writing them. And he trotted out the bizarre argument that this 65-year-old man needed to be able to write private letters to ministers as part of a kind of on-the-job training scheme: "We simply can't have a system," he harrumphed, "where on day one of the new reign we expect the Prince of Wales to function as if he were monarch."

This is a fair argument, of course, if the new king in question is in Game of Thrones, taking charge of the fictional kingdom of Westeros, and charged with momentous decisions about who to execute and how to defend the empire against the Dothraki invasion from across the sea. But with a bit of luck, and barring something really weird happening in France, this won't be part of Charles's duties. Mainly, he will have to smile, and wave, and say something nice to help your Christmas pudding go down. I think he can handle it.

This legal battle has already cost the taxpayer hundreds of thousands; if Grieve has any guts or shame, he will now give it up. But I wouldn't hold your breath. Since the original request to see the letters went in, things have actually got worse: in 2010, parliament reverted to its medieval model and waved through a royal exemption for the Freedom of Information Act. And so, from here on in, an unelected and very rich man with insidious authority will be able to write secret letters urging policy changes without fearing any sort of oversight. Meanwhile, another legal anachronism has allowed the royals to veto laws that affect their interests – a power that the current generation of Windsors have been offered 39 times. We would be furious if it was Murdoch.

If Charles and the rest of his family consider this a positive development, they should tread carefully. We are mostly monarchists in this country, but only in the sense that we enjoy them as part of the furniture: harmless posh mascots who go to terrible clubs and play polo and in general add to the gaiety of the nation.

The republican movement has no momentum whatsoever, but we are a resolutely undeferential bunch these days, and I have a hunch that it wouldn't take much to get the revolutionary ball rolling. If he has any sense, Charles will learn to keep the poison out of his black spiders. And if the ministers he is writing to have spines, I hope they will learn something from his mother when she gets unsolicited mail from eccentrics, and write back with the utmost politeness – and very short shrift.
