He embodies the term 'original hustler' and is one fellow who is surely trying his possible best to make his name heard.
I had the privilege of rooming with Sniper a few years ago and I can still vividly recall him begging me for dried pepper to mix with his indomie.
You see, this brother was (probably still is) an Indomie freak. Through out the period I stayed with him- two whole semesters, he never cooked anything else. I always wondered if he ever ate anything else.
I can imagine the noodle strands taking root in his belly and replacing his veins and arteries! Much love to you bro, if you are reading this, do know that you are my brother from another mother because revealing this little bit of information just might cost me my head!
Trust your very own Student Pulse to keep you abreast with information on the 'cool kids' we have in our respective schools. I recently caught up with ace disc jockey and master of the turntable, Slim DJ Sniper and here is what he had to say. Do enjoy:
Can I get to know more about you?
My names are Odelola Adedeji Abisola but I'm known mostly as Slim DJ Sniper, Unilag's finest , Club Uno's finest, and Vertigo bar Elegushi's finest Deejay.
What inspired the name Sniper? Is it that you gun down 'infidels' in your spare time?
I love playing video games for starters and that was how the name came to be actually. I am a serious fan of the sniper rifle and that is usually my preferred weapon while playing games that involve shooting and going on missions. One day, my friends noticed y uncanny likeness for the sniper rifle and jokingly began calling me the name 'Sniper'. I guess it is safe to say that the name stuck from then.
How did it all begin for you, what made you become a DJ and what has been your inspiration so far?
I had the idea to become a disc jokey when I was in secondary school probably in the year 2007. My mother owns a school and I usually help her run things concerning school events. Any time there was a party going down in my mother's school, I would always be the one in charge of the music and from there my love for music and DJing grew. My mother, noticing this trait in me always invited me to all her school events as she took keen interest in my love for music. I remember quite vividly that the she would often listen to me make turntable noises with my mouth. Basically, I think it is safe to say that I became a DJ through the little experience I gained from organizing music at my mother's school events.
My biggest inspiration so far? Of course it would be my mother.
Who is your role model when it comes to the job of DJing and why?
Dj Mekzy of Choice fm. He was the first dj I saw scratching right before my very eyes and he left me speechless. I also respect Dj Humility and I love the way he mixes his old school jams. Dj Neptune is also a wonderful Dj, he was the first dj I listened to constantly on the radio. I never missed his party mix on Raypower FM every Friday night back in the days when we used to carry our pocket friendly 'Palito' radio. I would stay glued to my earphones all through the night just listening to him wreak havoc on the turntable. Dj Smooth and Dj Kool J are also favourites of mine.
Which of these female celebs will you:
1)rock in a club
2)have a one night stand with
3)keep in your house to cook your meals and raise your children
The celebs are: Waje, Tonto Dike and Ini Edo
Hmmnnnn...Hehehehe...This is pretty easy.
1) Waje
2) Waje
3) Still Waje!
You can't blame me man! That babe is busting my brain!
What would you never catch Sniper doing?
One word: FAMZING. My number one commandment is 'Thou shall not famz'! If you see me forming familiarity with someone out there, then shoot me! With a sniper please!
What piece of fashion accessory freaks you the most and you can spend your life savings for?
Gucci and XL products. I love them like crazy.
How do you see Unilag as a school and the students themselves?
Unilag is a great school with so many opportunities. The students are fun loving individuals as well as fashion killers. I see many UNILAG girls getting their freak on in Club UNO and they just blow my mind with the things that they put on. Shout out to all the Unigidi dudes and babes out there. We always rep our school any day any time we are always on point wherever we may be.
Where in school would you term as the best chilling spot?
Huskies eatery. *covers face* No blame me oh! I be New Hall boy!
Of all the female hostels in Unilag, which hostel girls do you prefer and why?
I have much love for Moremi girls because they have class. Wherever you find them, you can always spot them even if they are in a crowd. They know how to dress and always have top men with killer rides coming to pick them up. You can ask any girl what her dream hostel is and she will tell you plainly that it is Moremi.
What hostel is your girlfriend in?
Sniper's girlfriend??? Hmmnnn...this must be kept on a low key bro. Anyway, my chick is in Emerald Hostel. Don't ask me her name and room number oh!
Sources reveal that you have stayed in the hostel for a while, list your top 3 hostel meals that you can't get enough of:
Hehehe...You know that my number one will always be noodles. I think the only food I ate in heaven before being born was Indomie and that is why I just can't get enough of it. When I'm in a restaurant in school, I usually go for Eba nd egusi, bread and beans, or yam and egg. Too bad most restaurants don't sell noodles.
Where does Sniper see himself in the nearest future?
I see myself as a celebrity DJ pleasing fans and winning awards all over the country and even on an international level.
As a DJ, what are the top 3 tracks that people go crazy for in clubs at the moment?
Undoubtedly, they would be Skelewu by Davido, Caro by Wizkid and Run Mad by Terry G.
