Samsung has announced a "Media Day" event for the end of April, and although we're not told exactly what to expect, we've been given a pretty big hint it'll reveal the Galaxy S4 Zoom sequel. The company tweeted the details through its official Mobile account, along with the phrase "Kapture the Moment." No, that's not a typo, it's how Samsung spelt the word capture.
Why? If the rumors are correct, the S4 Zoom sequel may be named the K Zoom or the Galaxy K, and not the Galaxy S5 Zoom. The invitation's artwork consists of a large letter K, which appears transparent, giving us a glimpse of something behind it. If the K Zoom, or whatever it ends up being called, is the main device of the day, it'll be announced less than a year into the S4 Zoom's life.
The Galaxy S4 Zoom was a real beast. It weighed more than 200 grams, and had a massive 10x optical zoom lens stuck to its back. Subtle it wasn't. A leaked image, said to be of the new phone, reveals Samsung may have slimmed things down this time. The picture shows a curvier bodied phone with a flush-fit lens on the rear. Despite the size reduction, the camera is still expected to offer a 10x optical zoom.
The camera could be different to the one fitted to the Galaxy S5. Instead of 16-megapixels, it may have 20-megapixels, and a xenon flash. The screen may not match the S5 though, and may shrink down to 4.9-inches with a 720p resolution. Other spec hints include a switch from a quad-core chip to a six-core processor of Samsung's own design, complete with 2GB of RAM. Finally, a phone with the model number SM-C115 – believed to be the K Zoom/Galaxy K – has passed through the FCC, confirming it'll have 4G LTE connectivity and NFC.
Samsung will hold its Media Day on April 29 in Singapore, and we'll bring you all the news on the day.
