It is not only Murray-Kohlschreiber that has been brought to an end by the fading light.
Fernando Verdasco had Richard Gasquet where he wanted him, leading 6-3 6-2 2-2 on Philippe Chatrier, before it got too gloomy to continue.
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez completed his win over Donald Young while the going was good, winning through to the a fourth round meeting with Gael Monfils with a 6-2 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 victory.

Tomas Berdych against John Isner, two big servers locking horns, might well be a lengthy one. It starts at 10:00 BST.

Tightening tendons, creaking nerves. Philipp Kohlschreiber frames a backhand into the first row to take the game to deuce from 40-30. The German has advantage but pummels a regulation overhead out onto the toes of the line judges to spare Murray.
Murray complains about the gathering gloom as he loses the next point and Philipp Kohlschreiber ensures that we will all come back in tomorrow midday's sunshine to see the final chapter.

The officials are massing in the corner of the court, looking at the darkening skies. After all this, we may have to wait until tomorrow for the final chapter. One more game at least...

Andy Murray's turn to get the umpire out of the chair. His second serve at 40-30 is just the wrong side of the whitewash though and we are into deuce.
A game point squandered by Murray, a shot from out of the very top drawer from Philipp Kohlschreiber and suddenly the Scot is backed up break point.
That focuses his mind. Andy Murray reels off three points of the highest quality, a backhand down the line on the first, a drop-dead gorgeous drop-shot on the last, to wrestle the match back his way.

Andy Murray slices the life out of a backhand and Philipp Kohlschreiber cannot scrape back. 15-30. The German nips back to 30-30 and then gambles big on a second serve, snipping the very edge of the line. Millimetres the other way and it could have been match-point.
As it is he makes good his escape. Thems the margins.

Philipp Kohlschreiber comes in, forces the issue and Murray can only duff a shot into the net for 30-30. A big point next up and Murray wins it slapping away a forehand down the line.
Kohlschreiber tries to buy entry to deuce with a drop-shot, by his way is barred but the wire as his shot slips south.
The light is fading as well. Just to add another factor into this maddening equation.

Andy Murray produces a love hold of serve of his own. Philipp Kohlschreiber almost took the ballperson's head off at the net with his final attempt to return. He bet the house on that one and yanked his forehand well wide.
One thing in Murray's favour is that he is ahead on the scoreboard. A break of serve now would be fatal for Kohlschreiber. Murray would have a chance to recover.

A few nerves as Andy Murray slips from 40-15 to 40-30 and suddenly the gremlins peep their heads up above the parapet. The Scot shoos them away with a big serve down the middle to seal the game. The trainer is summoned at the changeover to give him his left thigh a rubdown. Murray has been feeling his left hamstring as well.
Can he keep the wagon on the road for the remainder of this match?

I believe this is what Andy Murray's fellow Scot called "squeaky bum time". Fifteen-all and Andy Murray fails to put away a makeable volley at the net. He cuffs long after advancing on the next point. Two break points and Philipp Kohlschreiber takes the first.
Kim Sears looks on poker-faced in the crowd. Don't despair yet, Phil may not be the most solid of front runners.

Level pegging. Philipp Kohlschreiber made a bit of a meal of it, moaning at himself after a couple of missed first serves, but made it across the line safely enough.
